“Thank you, Chloé!”

Medea smiled happily at Chloé, leaning into the couch and lazing in it. She watched as the class president did a little twirl to show off the costume she wore. Chloé did look quite good in it and Medea was quick to admit that. Not in a sexual way, but more an aesthetic sense. Chloé was pleasing to Medea in the same way a sunset spreading a gold and violet hue on the horizon was pleasing to her. Still a really nice costume, if rather revealing.

A little lightbulb came on in her head!

“Oh! Oh!” Medea exclaimed, leaning forward as she looked over Chloé. “Ivy! Ivy! Your costume is Ivy from Soulcalibur! I knew it looked familiar!”

She leaned back into her seat, smiling happily. She shot a look at Ashlyn, blushed for a moment and then looked back at Chloé. She felt a little embarrassed still to be seen all close to Ashlyn. She liked Ashlyn, but public displays of affection made her a little sheepish when they were acknowledged. The blonde fidgeted in her seat, trying to think of something to talk about with the newcomer and Ash.

“So, uhh, why did you pick it?” She asked, tilting her head slightly.

Completely, 100% unironic, that little voice in Ash's head. The panting, wolf howling, eyes bulging out of head voice.

"Chloe can pick out whatever she wants, it's twenty twenty one." Her take on Chloe's surprisingly bold and daring move, anyways. At least, her take after she was done rolling up her tongue back into her mouth. Ash began to subtly shift on her hips- the amount of space between herself and Medea drifted wider at a geologic speed. Had to make it imperceptible to the conscious eye and all.

“Aha, it’s alright, Ash-” and then to Medea- “I borrowed it from our host, actually! She always has great clothes.”

Chloé had more or less let Dani pick her costume out for her, which worked well because A) she didn’t recognise any of the characters on offer herself, except Catwoman, but Rebekah had already claimed that one; and B) this way Dani could show off more of her favourite cosplays to her captive audience. The matter of Ash’s ensemble remained a mystery, but Chloé had already had to have “soul caliburs” and “power girls” and “psylockes” explained to her and didn't have much energy left for whatever backstory there was to the cone headed monster slouched opposite her, so she changed the costume conversation to the next thing that popped into her head.

“Less than a week to homecoming! Are you guys all ready?”

Actually, it wasn’t so much that it was the first thing that had popped into her head, since it hadn’t really left her head for several weeks now, just came to the forefront the moment she let her mind wander beyond the party they were currently attending and the various other commitments she’d put on hold before it. Parties weren’t supposed to be stressful, but they had been taking up a lot of her time lately- the Flanagans’ birthday had just been and gone, now Halloween, with Homecoming hanging over it all and the vague responsibility of hosting her own birthday celebrations later in the month.

Medea nodded her head. The outfit being one of Danielle Bird’s made sense. Dani really did like her revealing outfits, having a whole Instagram dedicated to showing off what she looked like in them. Medea would know since she was following Dani on her social media accounts. Medea could never imagine herself in something like that, if only because she imagined it was probably really chilly. But if it made Dani happy, then good for her! For Medea’s part, she was more than happy being in a nice, snuggly onesie with her cat while playing some Animal Crossing.

But she was getting her thoughts derailed a bit here as Chloé changed the topic to Homecoming.

“That is pretty exciting!” Medea said, smiling sheepishly. “But I don’t know if I will go. I have done pretty much nothing to prepare for it, so I may just sit it out and relax at home.”

Besides, parties take a lot out of her! Just being here was a lot of effort. It was fun and all, but nothing beats just laying on a nice cozy bed. Thinking about it, she might go if someone were to ask, but she hadn’t gotten any offers yet.

Ash didn't know if Dani's taste in anime was good or not- she didn't really follow along with Salem's in-depth genre spiels- but she did get the sense that a lot of her picks were contingent on the amount of skin bared in the character design. Just a guess educated from years of having followed the Insta. Respectfully.

"You guys seem to have handled in smoothly. Inevitable with you and Big D on one planning committee but I'm impressed all the same."

She glanced at Medea side long. The random brain worm of offering to make Medea's Homecoming night stopped squirming in an instant, but Ash still had a sidewalk full of wigglers, errant thoughts: who would possibly ask Medea out with a week left? Who would Chloe go with? Had Dick already shot his inevitable shot at her?

"My plans are the usual. We'll probably bounce early though. Nothing against you," Ash put her fingers together, put a prayer against her own lips to coyly signal for socially apropos forgiveness from the ever splendiferous Delacroix, "or any of the committee, we wanted to spend the weekend out of town though so we need to get driving."

Medea's phone vibrated in her pocket, and she turned away from the conversation to pull it out. Looking at her phone, she saw a text from her mom asking for her to come home as her cat had gotten sick. Medea pouted and made a noise of disappoint before sighing. She turned to Ash and Chloé, smiling sheepishly.

"Sorry to bail on you guys, but family emergency." She said as she moved to leave. "It was great we got to hang out! Hope to talk to you guys later! Enjoy the party!"

She hastily left the room, navigating through the home to the exit as she dialed for her ride.

“No pressure to come, Medea, and no pressure to stay, Ash!”

Chloé didn’t know who else was included in the ‘we’ that would be leaving early, but she assumed it was Salem. Either way, it wasn’t Medea. Perhaps she had misinterpreted the situation, and this had all been perfectly innocent. Although, Medea excused herself pretty quickly afterwards. Chloé hoped her family matter excuse was true, but she couldn’t shake the feeling she’d scared Medea off.

“Um…” Chloé shifted her foot awkwardly, not sure whether to apologise to Ash or not. She was already backing out of the room as she put an end to their conversation.

“Well, I’ll see you around! Bye for now!”
