Shill Thread

#1

Post by MethodicalSlacker »

Hi y'all! So I ran this idea by chat yesterday and the people that responded seemed to be pretty into it. The goal of this thread is to have a general recommendation thread for basically anything. Books, music, movies, TV Shows, Anime, foods, drinks, web original content, websites, video games, board games, and any number of things that I am missing here. Basically anything that isn't something that exists here — no threads or characters or handlers, please. Also as a general rule of thumb don't recommend people. Articles and stuff about historically noteworthy people, or the collected works of an author or musician or otherwise artistic individual, sure, but don't recommend people themselves.

Here's the recommendation template;

Code: Select all

Name:
Medium:
Genre/Target Audience:
Status:
Time to Complete:
Description:
Links or Obtaining Guidelines:
And here's how to fill it out;

Name: The name or title of your recommendation!

Medium: Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Probably not! But here's where you indicate what it actually is.

Genre/Target Audience: Is it for hardcore fans of a given genre or casual fans? E for Everyone or M for Mature? Happy or Sad? For sincere or ironic perusal? This is where you indicate who will get the most enjoyment out of your recommendation, as a demographic. Also where you would put content warnings if you find that appropriate. Please don't make the criteria here in a gate-keeping kind of way, or make them so specific that they apply only to one person here and we can tell who they are. In that case just recommend to them in private, please; this is for sharing with the website.

Status: Is it done? Is it ongoing? Is it on hiatus? Indicate that here.

Time to Complete: Just generally indicate how long it takes for someone to finish this thing. You can skip this if you're recommending something shorter than an hour. Just say < 1 Hour in that case.

Description: A brief summary or blurb about your recommendation. What's it about? What are your favorite parts or things to read/watch/listen for? What don't you like? Generally just put whatever you feel like here, but a sentence or two about what the thing is would be optimal.

Links or Obtaining Guidelines: If you can provide access to it (legally) then put the link here. Or the link to an Amazon page where you can buy it, or similar methods of purchase. Or, y'know, maybe tell the reader to DM you for access, just to know the best method of getting it, maybe in a way that skips the earlier clause about, y'know, the law, I wouldn't know.

Here are some other guidelines;
 • You don't have to, um, experience the recommendation posted before yours in full in order to post your own, but it'd be cool if you checked it out. Just for a little bit.
 • Please don't post two recommendations in a row. If the thread has been dead for a few weeks and you really feel like it then go ahead.
 • Nothing X-Rated. It's okay for something to have some nudity in it or even sex scenes but if the express purpose of the media is to be erotic then save it for some other time.
 • Nothing that includes people actually dying. Just don't. Please.
