S110 - Brewer, Kelsey

#1

Post by Buko »

Name: Kelsey Brewer
Gender: Female
Age: 18
Grade: Senior
School: John Endecott Memorial Academy
Hobbies and Interests: Art, cheerleading, socializing, video games

Appearance: Kelsey is 5'11" tall and weighs 124 lbs. Though not entirely shapeless, her figure is mostly thin and straight due to her lack of body fat. There is a distinct laziness in her bearing, and she tends to slouch a bit due to her height. She tends to speak quietly, with a somewhat low and raspy voice.

Her skin is pale and she has a thin face with a long, straight nose, thin lips, and wide hazel eyes usually accented with a generous quantity of eyeliner. She has multiple piercings in each ear. Her hair is straight and black with purple highlights. It falls roughly to her shoulders when given the chance, though she nearly always wears it up in the same style with her bangs slanting just past her jawline over one side of her face and the rest pulled back into a short and extremely messy ponytail.

Kelsey's outfits usually consist of dark clothing with splashes of bright color. On the day of the abduction, she was wearing a sky-blue top with a black hoodie and a dark brown parka over the top, black fingerless gloves, torn black jeans, and brown calf-high boots, accessorized with a studded belt, a rainbow pin on her hoodie, and several bracelets on each wrist. She was also wearing a cloth facemask custom-printed with stylized grinning, pointed teeth.

Biography: Kelsey was born and raised in Salem. Her mother, Louise, met her father, Mark while she was a surgical resident at the local hospital and he was doing his clinical rotations. They bonded over the stress of their chosen occupations and the shared driven nature that had gotten them there and eventually married. Mark found placement at the hospital's radiology department while Louise finished her residency and they had two children; a son, Lucas, and four years later, Kelsey.

Kelsey's childhood was marked as much by the absence of her parents on their long, irregular schedules as by their affluence. Lucas was her only constant companion, and she came to admire him as much as he adored his little sister. The children never wanted for any material comfort, nor were they spoiled; while both parents were in positions of high income and social status, neither had come from privilege themselves and both of them regularly interacted with the most vulnerable members of society. Courtesy, empathy, and a finding a grounded perspective were the major lessons they emphasized in raising Kelsey and Lucas.

One notable trait that emerged in the young Kelsey was her extreme tendency for physicality in her relationships. Though she has learned to rein in her impulses and give others their personal space, she has always regarded physical contact as a basic level of respect and affection and engages in it casually. Despite this particular attitude, she still considers herself shy and has struggled to reconcile her extroversion with her timid nature.

Another major development in Kelsey's childhood was the foundation of her lifelong interest in art. Her typical childhood fascination with doodling and drawing found special encouragement in Lucas, who had a wild imagination and proclivity for creating stories. They worked as a pair, writer and illustrator, from the time they were capable of producing the most basic summaries with accompanying scribbles. Their parents were more than happy to foster and support their respective interests, and Kelsey's skill grew and developed as she did. Despite her technical proficiency, she has always leaned on the imaginations of others and struggles to find inspiration when left to her own devices.

Things continued on mostly normally as Kelsey went through elementary school and entered middle school. Her grades were always good but not amazing; she was expected to pass her classes with more than the bare minimum, but her parents never demanded perfection, instead encouraging their children to explore their passions without forcing themselves into burnout. Kelsey did especially well in all things relating to art, readily absorbing information and improving her skill set. She also did well in math, finding a sort of comfort in the definite rules and structured environment to work within.

Another area Kelsey jumped into with enthusiasm was her class' nascent dating scene as they grew and started experimenting with relationships beyond mere friendship. Notably, she found herself desiring that elevated level of attention from other girls just as much as from boys. While her family and friends were always supportive of this, the hostility she occasionally encountered from less open-minded students and adults baffled and dismayed her. This was especially shocking given the wealth and comfort of her upbringing. Though she was well aware of the concept of discrimination, finding herself the target of such disdain was an eye-opening experience for her. She also resented the reputation she came to develop as someone who would give herself over to anything that moved. It was true that she tended to jump from relationship to relationship with almost no time in between, and that they weren't always built to last. Still, she valued the support and contact provided by her partners immensely and hated that being turned against her as a personality flaw.

With no great love for the outdoors and no shortage of means, one of the ways Kelsey came to spend her free time was playing video games, both alone and with others. She had little interest in tests of twitch reflexes or cutthroat competition, gravitating instead to more strategic and cooperative titles. A major development in that are came while Kelsey was in 7th grade and Lucas began playing Final Fantasy XIV with his friends. Kelsey joined him soon after at his request to fill a spot in their raid group and took to it readily, not only as a way to spend time with her brother but on the merits of both the game itself and the community surrounding it. The structured, cooperative environment with a strong aesthetic and social aspect was one she thrived in, and she took inspiration from the lore and design work and the booming artistic community surrounding them. This took on special meaning for her after she entered high school and Lucas moved out to pursue his degree in English, and playing together was one of the few ways they could meaningfully interact beyond simple text or voice calls.

The transition to high school is typically a time of great change. For Kelsey, much of that change involved stepping out of her brother's shadow. Having formerly spent so much time with Lucas and leaning on his preferences, she suddenly found herself looking to fill a void of activity and ideas. This new space provided opportunity and impetus for her own tastes to truly blossom, and she cultivated a special appreciation for works generally regarded as geeky, offbeat, or just generally subpar. Whether anime, novel, or high-budget movie, what she really looks for is the earnestness that tends to shine through such efforts, as well as anything that appeals to her edgy aesthetic sensibilities.

She also joined the cheer squad, not out of any love for sport or athleticism, but for the social aspect and the structured way of combating her shy nature and indulging in the attention of her peers, along with an excuse to wear a very short skirt. While she does value the time she spends with the squad and the friends she's made along the way, she has absolutely no interest in competition or any sort of bold stunts. For the latter, this is backed by an intimate knowledge, thanks to her parents, of the risks involved. Thankfully for Kelsey, her height and lack of upper-body strength mean she is rarely in consideration for such maneuvers in the first place.

Not all change was positive. With an eye ever on appearance and aesthetics and an inundation of media, she became hyper-critical of her own body. And being left up to her own devices so much of the time, it became all too easy to reduce or skip meals entirely. Always a slender child, she slimmed down dangerously before her parents intervened with what had developed into a full-blown eating disorder. Despite the familial support and professional counseling she has received, and the knowledge of the permanent harm she faces, she still struggles to maintain a healthy weight and suffers occasional relapses. Quarantine was one such period, and was an especially low point for her due to her desire for physical contact and the obvious stress on her parents.

Throughout all of this, Kelsey's passion for the arts has never wavered. Her main academic focus has been taking and excelling in every possible art class offered at the school, even those outside her main areas of specialty, in order to build her skills and portfolio for admission to a dedicated arts program in college. That work extends beyond the classroom, both in person and in her various online communities. She enjoys sharing her various works on social media and practices her 3D modeling skills by altering assets to produce mods for Final Fantasy XIV. She also alters her own wardrobe with custom accessories and prints. One of her more prominent works was a cloth mask for use during the pandemic with a stylized, monstrous grin. She continues to wear the mask when she can, not only because of her parents' ongoing work amidst with the tail end of cases and opinions that politicians have been overbold in declaring the situation completely finished, but also because she thinks it's cute. Recently, she has started working on a webcomic with an online friend, naturally supplying the illustrations to accompany their writing. She has no expectations of mainstream success, but enjoys the vaguely professional aspect and the chance to expose her works to a wider audience.

Looking to the future, Kelsey is optimistic. While she has her personal struggles like anyone else, she has a solid passion and a plan to keep riding it into college and beyond.

Advantages: Kelsey is highly perceptive and reasonably intelligent. She is quite amicable and always willing to forge relations with others.
Disadvantages: Kelsey has very little body fat and next to no stamina due to the ongoing effects of her eating disorder. Her intense need for physical contact and passive nature may lead her into poor situations.
