Where The Sidewalk Ends

Day Four, Private (you know why~)

Cutting a path through the trees at the base of the mountain, the old road was the only usable link for vehicles wishing to travel between the mining town and the research station. This meant it was kept in relatively good condition almost year-round, although it was prone to blockages from mountain debris. In the years since the island was abandoned, no one has been present to clear these blockages, and the tarmac has started to crack and break apart from years of freezing and thawing. Despite this, it is still the most easily traversable path on the island, even with the edges of the forest starting to encroach upon it.

Josh wouldn't look directly at her, but focused on some snow and rocks just above her head. Couldn't look away entirely just in case but didn't want to look straight on.

His chest heaved and he felt queasy. His shaking hands gripped the shotgun for dear life. Soon, there was no more noise or movement. It was only a body and blood. Meat. It was just meat on the ground.

Panting, Josh put the shotgun back in the bag. The BR18 was recalled back to its owner. He spit on the ground, trying to settle his stomach. Josh squeezed his eyes shut then opened them. He picked up her bag too, not bothering to transfer the items to his bag like he had last time.

The sex toy was still on the ground. Josh looked at it suspiciously, then kicked it away. It made him nervous and uneasy.

He'd done it again and wasn't sure how he felt. He needed time to think, process. At the very least, Josh was a little smug that he'd prevailed. But the finality was unnerving. These were things you couldn't take back.

Without looking back, he started forward on the road, and thought that perhaps the reason people didn't do some things they wanted to do was because... then others would know they wanted to do them.
