Southwest Red Rock High School

Southwest Red Rock High School is a high-end school with a focus on athletic achievement. The layout of the school takes advantage of the consistency of the weather in Las Vegas and has no hallways. Instead, each faculty has its own classroom buildings, and the gym and auditorium are separated. The campus includes a lot of outdoor space for sports, such as football pitches, a baseball diamond, basketball and tennis courts, and a swimming pool, among other facilities.

  • Gymnasium
The gym in Red Rock is a full facility rather than a single gym space. The gym itself has a full basketball court with bleachers on all four sides, along with a shallow domed ceiling, and can also be converted to host wrestling and gymnastics meets. The gym also has a full weight room that is free for student use throughout the week, although certain times are reserved for exclusive use by members of the school's various teams. There are full changing and showering facilities within the gym building itself. During the day, the gym is also freely open to students, who are allowed to make use of it for socializing during breaks, or to play pickup games.

  • Red Rock Stadium
Red Rock Stadium is the name of the purpose built football and athletics stadium for Southwest Red Rock High School. It is home to the Rattlers football team, as well as the Rattlers athletic team. The view from the stadium is notable, as the backdrop of every game is Red Rock Canyon, which can be clearly seen from the stadium itself. Much like the gym, the stadium is free for students to make use of outside practice times. The stadium also hosts graduation ceremonies at the end of every school year.

  • The Playing Fields
The playing fields are a collection of a football field, a soccer pitch, and a baseball diamond, that are used for more general sports practice. Each has a set of bleachers, but these are not as numerous or high-quality as the bleachers in the school's other athletic facilities. Much like them, the fields are free to use for any students outside of designated practice times or classes.

  • The Auditorium
The auditorium at Red Rock High School is used for any general assemblies and drama department productions—graduation is typically held within Red Rock Stadium. As a result of this, while the space is modern and in good condition, it is much more modest in its design when compared to the high-end gym and stadium facilities that the school boasts.

  • Performing Arts
The performing arts department at Red Rock, while not underfunded, is not the main focus of the school’s program. The practice rooms, recording studios, and drama studios are all modern and up-to-date, if lacking in imagination with their designs — a downside they share with the school auditorium. With that said, the school does cannily reinvest into the facility to ensure it is not in disrepair.

  • Cafeteria
The cafeteria at Red Rock, like the rest of the facilities, is housed in its own building. Although the cafeteria building is the smallest of the buildings on the campus, it is one of the most eye-catching, with one whole side being a collection of glass windows and doors that open up to additional outdoor seating, and give direct access to the playing fields.

  • Art and Design
The art and design faculties are the only two that share a building, with the art rooms and studios being on the second floor, and the design workshops situated on the ground floor. There are also computer labs on both floors that students are free to use for their own work. The two art classrooms, while technically different rooms, are connected by a pottery area with a kiln. There is also a photography studio on the second floor.

  • The Classrooms
The rest of the faculties at Southwest Red Rock High School have very similar classrooms, with the science faculty having labs instead of the regular classroom. All of these facilities have their own buildings that students walk between to get to class.

  • The Library
The library at Red Rock is located within the English building, and takes up much of the first floor. It’s a bright and accommodating space thanks to its large glass windows, with sofas and chairs arranged to make seating areas. There are also computer banks, arranged in cross patterns throughout the center of the room.
