Butterfly

They say the flap of a butterfly’s wings can cause a hurricane on the other side of the world.

That’s a funny lil’ phrase.

Abby hummed softly as she kneeled next to a patch of flowers. Honeysuckles. She smiles as she jotted them down, lightly touching upon it with the back of her hand and nodding.

“You’re growing up to be big and strong.” She whispers softly, looking around “Being apart of nature…it’s beautiful.”

She looked back down at her small notebook, pursing her lips. She then heard a light flapping around her head and she glanced up.

“Oh.” She released a soft noise from her lips, holding her arm out.

Resting down on the back of her hand was a Black swallowtail butterfly, flapping its wings as it made its landing on the girl’s hand. Abby tilts her head softly, pursing her lips before smiling.

“Hey there, Mrs. Butterfly.” She whispers, leering her head forward “You seem like a big girl now. Ready to fly and do your part for the world?”

After a brief beat of silence, she smiles and lifted her hand up, gently letting the butterfly soar back up in the air “Be free, my friend. You’re gonna do great…”
