The Good in Everyone

#Swiftball; open to all - feel free to pass through

Chattanooga plays host to numerous festivals throughout the year, from Pride marches to film festivals to sporting events; this is the place for those and other specific events, public or personal. Other threads that take place within the city limits but not in any other specified location also belong here. Please use this board only for threads that really don't fit anywhere else, however; threads that take place in one of the delineated areas, even if they represent events, should be placed in the area board for better organization. Threads that take place outside the city of Chattanooga should also be placed in the appropriate board.

Mikki left quickly, taking the whiskey back from the party whence it had came. Faith had only meant to take like, one shot of it before taking it back, but Ivy hadn't exactly made that easy and she'd sort of forgotten. She hoped whoever had brought it eventually got it back. And that Mikki was able to handle whatever was going on in the garage without too much trouble. Really, Claude should've gone - He seemed like way the better sort to deal with people stirring shit than the 5-ish foot, 100-ish pound chick - But, hey it was 2019, who was she to judge.

Some things never changed though. Like Lavender being a bro. Faith couldn't help but smile sheepishly as she felt things start to line up.

Lavender was right, wasn't she? It probably would be good to make sure she wasn't wandering the streets half cut, trying to find her way home, that sounded kinda like a bad idea now that she thought it through a little more.

Her hand lifted off Lavender's back and she moved it to scratch her own neck without really thinking about it as she turned away.

"Uhh.. If you could drop me off at the nearest bus stop that'd be really nice..." she tried to suggest, without really asking.

"Yeah," Lavender said. "That'll be no problem."

Of course, she was planning, just as soon as they were buckled up and on the road, to suggest that she go ahead and take Faith all the way home. A ride to the bus stop was better than nothing, but barely. Faith would still be inebriated, in public, and to some extent cast to the mercy of fate; should she, for instance, doze off at the stop or on the bus, she would end up who-knew-where and who-knew-when. Lavender believed strongly in granting others respect and dignity and the freedom to make their own mistakes, so if Faith was absolutely truly hellbent on making it home herself then that would be what happened, but they wouldn't end up there without some real protest on Lavender's part.

Lavender gave a quick nod and smile to Claudeson, who was probably about to be having a much better time than he had been so far now that the tide of newcomers had abated. Security for this sort of class event really felt like a formality, and Claudeson being the one picked suggested that even moreso; Lavender couldn't imagine him actually physically intervening in any sort of altercation. Calling someone with actual authority, sure, but he was a good-natured, peaceful sort. If he broke up any fights, it would be with words.

"Good luck out here," she said. "I'll drop you a line if Desiree gets back to me."

Because, come to think of it, that was a whole lot easier and more logical than leaving her phone, wasn't it? Half their grade was at this party, so if Lavender needed to urgently contact one of the hosts, she could just dial basically anyone in her contacts list and ask to be handed off to them.

Temporary goodbyes said, she smiled again at Faith, held out her hand in a half-beckon, and set out back down the block to where she'd parked.

"Thanks, 'ppreciate it." she replied earnestly, her smile widening a little even as she tried to contain it. She didn't want to embarrass her on the way out and get all huggy or anything, even though she kind of wanted to. She took a little breath in and out before turning to Claudeson herself.

"Have a good one Claude, see yah around" she said, as she walked backwards towards Lavender, considering waving for a moment before deciding against it and turning back around. She took a few uneasy faster strides, catching up to walk beside her guide as they headed down to where she'd parked, not wanting to lose sight of her. The noises of the party became less distinct as they walked, the music quickly fading into an indecipherable bass filled hum, the laughter and voices losing coherence and turning into a confusing morass of tones.

A few minutes of distance between them and the party later, and Faith let out a low sigh that she didn't realise she'd been holding in, closing her eyes for a moment as she felt all the memories of the night swirl together in the self imposed darkness.

"That sure was an evening." she commented, dryly.

Claudeson held up his hand in farewell as Lavender and Faith headed in the direction of Lavender's car. He allowed the both of them a toothy smile as they left, nodding at Lavender as he did.

"Take care, ladies. Drive safely!"

Adding the last bit on was probably redundant; if anyone was going to be a safe driver this evening, it would likely be Lavender. What she was doing really was quite a service to her fellow classmates. The propensity for people to get behind the wheel of a car on an evening such as this was probably quite high, and throughout his time at the door, Claudeson had tried to make note of those who had been dropped off, and anyone who had arrived on their own. He wasn't exactly confiscating keys or anything to that effect, but he'd been fairly strict at letting everyone know that drinking and driving wouldn't be tolerated.

Of course, if they were going to drink and drive, nothing Claudeson could say or do would stop them from getting behind the wheel, so good riddance to anyone who decided to put their life in the hands of fate like that. The Lord was just, and watched over all of his children, but when someone decided to act as recklessly as that... actions had consequences.

All the same, he did hope that Lavender would return Faith home all right. Claude smirked as he turned back to his watchman post by the front door. It seemed as though he was constantly wishing people safety as they returned to wherever it was they called home. Many of those had been layered with insincerity, but for once, he meant it. As he glanced around the front of the yard, his shoulders sagged. He had been here for hours, and this whole exercise was starting to wear thin upon him. The evening was well in hand, and finally, it seemed as though no one else was arriving to Swiftball.

The more he twirled the thought around in his mind, the less he wanted to be there at this given moment. The house behind him was a representation of everything that he despised about his fellow classmates, and there was a part of him - a very small part of him - that would not have batted an eye had the entire den of debauchery gone up in flames, trapping everyone inside for a date with Satan himself. The hell with all of them.

Snapping his eyes open, Claudeson gave his head a shake. Goodness, no. Of course not - that was a horrible thing to think. He didn't want to be inside, participating, but he would let the people do what they would. It wasn't harming him at all. As a shiver went through his spine, Claudeson suddenly felt the urge to be anywhere else but there.

The door opened, and a drunken party goer stumbled out of it, evidently looking for a place to light up a cigarette. Immediately stepping up to the student - whose name he didn't know and face he didn't recognize, Claudeson put a firm hand on his shoulder. The student stiffened, expecting a reprimand for the cigarette in his hands. It didn't arrive.

"I need to go and ensure someone is safely home. Please sit here and keep watch. There is some leftover pizza in it for you if you do."

Claudeson watched the gears turn within the drunken student's head, and at the mention of pizza, the guy's face immediately lit up.

"No problem, dude!"

Scampering over to the table, the student slid into the chair and immediately got to work on the pizza, lighting up their cigarette as they did so. Nodding at the sight, he turned his back to the student and the expression on his face turned from calm purposefulness to disdain. Stepping away from the front door, Claudeson strode into the night, never once looking back at the spectacle that had been #Swiftball. The more that he thought about it, the more that he could affirm that he wasn't lying. He did need to make sure someone was home safely - but that someone was him. There were so many different sins presenting themselves behind him, and he wanted nothing more than to leave them all behind him.

So he did.
