This theme is similar to the Memetest we did a while back, but I wanted to expand on it a little. Instead of just internet meme songs, I want to focus on the singers, bands, and content creators who got their start on the internet. YouTube content creators, SoundCloud musicians, that sort. People who run cover channels. Collaborators. Comedic singers. Mashup artists. DJs. Remix artists. Do you have a musician or group you like who started on an internet platform and broke into the mainstream? Then this is the time to submit their work.
I won't be too harsh on gatekeeping submissions. I'd suggest that you focus more on people who needed the internet to get the boost instead of people or songs who were already established or notable before the internet got their hands on it. For example: if someone appeared on a competition series, but didn't really become well-known until an online video came out (like the lady in the above .gif), then I would permit. But if someone was already famous, had a long career, and then one of their songs was attached to a meme or a viral video, that probably wouldn't work (like when Justin Bieber tried to make Yummy a TikTok hit). More creators than memes, if that helps. But if you want to discuss this with me, you can PM me on the board or DM me on Discord to discuss whether something would count.
Common songtest rules for the unitiated: Signups will go for three days, ending at 7 PM EST on Thursday, June 3rd. Songs can be sent via PM on the board or DMd on Discord.
