V8 Final Apps Are Open!

#1

Post by SOTF_Help »

Attention handlers:

As previously announced, today is the opening of Version 8's final character submissions. For those who have not gone through this process before, it is very simple. Any character whom you intend to play in the game proper must be re-submitted to the critique process so that they can be approved for the final game roster.

Any student not submitted for final approval will not take part in V8; if they existed in Pregame, they may be used in Meanwhile. If they did not appear in Pregame, or if they were approved but have no posts and are not referenced by other characters, they can be assumed to have never existed, and their biographies may be reused in a later version or Mini. If they have posts or are closely connected to characters who enter the game, they will be assumed to have simply not been on the senior trip, and will not be eligible for reuse in later games. Characters who appear in Meanwhile are ineligible for submission to future versions.

This second part of the process allows handlers to make any changes or updates that they feel are necessary to their characters, including adding information that developed during pregame or removing parts of the character that you feel have become problematic or no longer apply. Pregame is largely considered canon, but if you deem it necessary to remove something that was referenced in pregame, the canon of the final version takes priority. It also allows staff to get a fresh look at profiles and make sure that anything which might have been missed during the pregame critique gets addressed. (And if we decide that something needs to be changed or removed, its existence in pregame does not matter; see the previous statement about canon priority.)

Effective immediately, all in-progress pregame apps are now closed and have been moved to the Forfeited and Abandoned section of pregame registrations. Any profiles that were in the queue may be re-submitted immediately to final apps, if they had not yet been critiqued, or upon the completion of any requested edits.

Final applications will once again be conducted in waves, in order to keep the queue moving at a manageable level for the staff team. You may submit a new profile every two weeks from the opening of final apps, and a full range of dates may be found in the Important Application Information thread. You may submit a maximum of FOUR characters for Version 8.

If you hand off a character during final apps, it is treated like any other adoption, and you forfeit all rights to control that character to the person that adopted them. You will have no special preference or advantage should the character later go up for adoption, and you will have no veto power over the character's actions. If you are arranging a hand-off adoption, make sure that all parties involved confirm things with the staff team beforehand.

We are currently planning to open V8 in early fall of 2022, with a firm launch date coming in a later announcement. When the version opens, we will immediately stop accepting new character submissions. Any profiles that are in the queue before that point will have until first rolls are conducted to get approved, after which they will automatically be forfeited and applications will close entirely.

That's all for now. Make sure that you read all of the important informational posts in the application section before submitting, and have fun!

Wave 2 of final applications is now open! If you've gotten your first character approved, you are now free to submit another. Remember that you can only have one character in the queue at a time.
"Art enriches the community, Steve, no less than a pulsing fire hose, or a fireman beating down a blazing door. So what if we're drawing a nude man? So what if all we ever draw is a nude man, or the same nude man over and over in all sorts of provocative positions? Context, not content! Process, not subject! Don't be so gauche, Steve, it's beneath you."

After some discussion on the staff team, we have opted to delay the opening of Wave 4 of V8 final character applications until July 29. It's been a very busy month for all of us in real life, and most people in the queue are still on their first or second characters, so this will allow us to get things moving more smoothly again. We thank you all for your patience and understanding here.
