Post by Deamon »

Name: Shawn Bellamy
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Grade: Senior
School: John Endecott Memorial Academy
Hobbies and Interests: Strategy games, skiing, history, jazz music

Appearance: Shawn stands at 5'10" and weighs 140 lbs, possessing a lean physique maintained by regular exercise and a well-rounded diet. His pale skin belies his Anglo-Norman ancestry, relatively free of notable blemishes given the effort he puts into proper skincare, along with light brown hair cut into a short bed head style. His face is slender and gaunt, with thin lips and a slightly prominent nose, though his most recognisable facial feature would be the thick-rimmed square glasses he wears over his dark brown eyes to make up for his short-sightedness.

His dress sense is typically smart casual, often some combination of shirt and trendy pants. For the winter trip, in addition to a maroon t-shirt and black winter pants, he has also packed appropriate ski gear from his own experiences of going on skiing trips. These include a maroon thermal top and pants, a thin black fleece, a yellow ski jacket with black accents and a black ski beanie. Only the thermal top, jacket and beanie however are packed in his backpack, with the rest left in his luggage along with his spare clothes.

Biography: Raised as the only child of a well-off young couple, Shawn Bellamy had what most would consider to be something of a privileged upbringing. His father Jerry is the owner of a cocktail bar in downtown Boston called La Blanche, a popular weekend hotspot well known for its classy atmosphere and expensive drinks, not to mention playing host to various live jazz performances from professionals and amateurs alike. His mother Samantha is a secretary at a local law firm, as well as a proud member of the Massachusetts Republican Party.

Being the sole child of the Bellamys meant that Shawn had a tendency to be doted on throughout his childhood, his parents able to afford getting him most everything he's ever wanted or take him wherever in the world they so wished. Given that they both worked extensive hours, this was seen as their way of making up for not spending as much time with him at home as other parents, instead mostly relying on babysitters and carers during his early years. This manner of upbringing however would result in Shawn growing up to be more than a little spoiled, going through life with an expectation of everything being handed to him on a silver platter, the entire world being his proverbial oyster to pluck at and enjoy to his whim.

Still, being granted the opportunity to experience a wide variety of activities throughout his childhood that most wouldn't be able to afford did have it's more positive side effects as well. Frequent trips to the countryside and more activity-focused holidays lead to him developing an attitude towards healthy living and keeping himself fit, skiing in particular proving to be one of his earliest passions, resulting in numerous ski trips all across North America. Indeed one of his fondest childhood memories included a trip to Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort itself, where his family celebrated Christmas in a rented log cabin near Lake Placid.

Other trips would spark more academic passions, the most noteworthy being when he got the chance to visit Washington DC for the first time, which thanks to his mother's influence led to a lifelong passion for History. American History being a particular favourite subject of his, but this quickly expanded to an overall fascination with early-to-modern history as a whole, always curious as to what events lead to the rise and fall of empires and the foundations of modern nations. Of course, his mother's influence also tended to affect his particular slant on a number of topics, particularly his conservative political leanings that grew more prevalent as he got older.

Though his mother had a significant influence on his beliefs and academic interests, his father was able to influence his taste in music and entertainment as well. His father's love for jazz music would rub off on Shawn when he was younger, especially on the rare occasions when he was able to visit him at work, forever cementing the genre as one of his favourites to listen to in order to relax. There was something about jazz that put him at ease, that would spring to mind nostalgic memories of relaxing at home on a rainy day. Jazz's association with La Blanche in particular would forever cement the genre in his mind as one listened to by classy intellectuals, the very kind of people whom Shawn aspired to be. Whilst he wouldn't be able to name many artists or musicians he was particularly fond of, jazz would forever remain his go-to choice of music for studying or homework, or calm him down whenever he was stressed or angry.

His father also introduced him to Chess at an early age, which led to his passion for strategy games as a whole. Whilst games such as Chess and Risk remain favourites to this day, he also often found himself getting engrossed in various 4x games on his personal computer, particularly those that play into his historical passions such as Civilisation or Paradox Grand Strategy Games. However, his passion for such games was undercut by his arrogance and competitive nature towards mastering them, tending towards being the type of player who would bully less experienced players in order to bolster his own ego rather than go for a quick victory.

Throughout his youth Shawn had traditionally attended private institutions, with the expectation of entering a private high school upon finishing middle school. However, events in his family's life would get in the way of those aspirations when long-term structural issues with La Blanche led to expensive refurbishments, which along with a costly car accident that left his mother bedridden for several months meant that his family had to make some concessions. In the end one of those concessions ended up being Shawn's private education, but to make up for it his father decided to enroll him in the school he used to attend: John Endecott Memorial Academy, which whilst no longer a private school still had an air of respectability about it.

Unsurprisingly, after spending the majority of his life getting most everything he ever wanted, this sudden change of expectations put some strain on his relationship with his parents. His mother less so, given her condition, but though he acquiesced to this change in plans he would forever blame his father for sending him to what he saw as an inferior option to private education. This divide would only become more significant as the years went on, and despite his father's best efforts they would never truly reconcile before the 2021 winter trip, with Shawn still resenting his father for not providing him the level of education he desired.

Whilst he was never particularly happy about this arrangement, he nevertheless wasn't one to let that stop him from doing his best in class, always striving to study hard and get the grades he needed to achieve his dream of studying at Harvard University. Thankfully John Endecott covered all the subjects he wanted to take, with music being the obvious choice for his fine arts and history as one of his specialised electives. During his years of study he's consistently acquired high marks, ranging from Bs to As in most subjects save for the more middling marks he received for Spanish. Though he has managed to make the most of his education from an academic point of view, his social life at John Endecott left much to be desired by comparison.

Under the belief that this stay would be temporary until his family's finances were in check, Shawn didn't go through great efforts during his early years to endear himself to his classmates. Though he'd never say it outright it was quite obvious that he saw most of them as beneath him, frequently coming across as smug and aloof, though nevertheless putting in enough effort to his studies to get the grades he needed. It wasn't until the global pandemic struck in 2020 that he realised that his stay at John Endecott would last through to his seniors, when his father's buisness was hit hard by the lack of customers and his mother became the primary breadwinner. Since then he has taken greater effort to improve his standing amongst his peers, even making a handful of friends amongst his more conservative-minded classmates, though many still remember the boy they were introduced to back when he was a freshman with one event in particular permanently souring his reputation amongst certain classmates.

One habit that Shawn found himself developing very early was one for interrupting the teacher during class, either to bring up an interesting anecdote or correct them on a matter he felt they got wrong. He would be particularly eager to do this during history classes, much to the annoyance of his teacher and classmates, until one day he found his interjection corrected by a fellow student by the name of Connor. Connor was seen as a slacker by most, with it being something of an open secret amongst his classmates that he regularly partook in recreational drugs like cannabis. This day however saw him calling out Shawn on getting something wrong, which after some debate and internet searches was revealed to be true, leaving Shawn thoroughly embarrassed after making a fool of himself in front of his peers. Enraged at being outdone and humiliated by a stoner of all people, a few weeks later Shawn would anonymously report Connor's drug habits, eventually leading to Connor being expelled when it came to light that he would often share them with his friends. Though he was cautious enough to ensure it could never be proven outright to have been him who reported Connor, there are those who still strongly suspect it was him who caused their friend to be expelled, leading to him forever being labelled as a snitch in the eyes of some of his classmates.

Personality wise, Shawn tends to come across as confident and self-assured at best, arrogant to a fault at worst. Always thinking of himself as the smartest person in the room, rarely afraid to show it off in front of everyone. He also tends to pride himself as a master of discourse, always eager to prove people wrong when he believes himself to have the upper hand. That said, when presented with arguments he can't easily disprove or confrontations that look to turn physical, he is quick to falter and step back. For all his bluster, he is something of a coward at heart, someone who shies away from confrontation only to conjure up a means of getting his own back later.

Advantages: Shawn is physically fit, possesses above average intelligence and is thoroughly confident in himself. His competitive nature and self-centered attitude will help put him in the right mindset for surviving in an environment that only allows for one winner.
Disadvantages: Shawn has inadvertently burned a lot of bridges with several of his classmates, and it's not unheard of him to react irrationally when things do not go his way. His short-sightedness could also potentially hinder him if he ever loses his glasses, and his cowardice will prove to be a difficult barrier in the long term.
