Appearance: Chloé stands 5’7” with a short, squat torso and longer legs. She weighs about 141 pounds, a slightly above average weight for her height, and carries much of her weight in her legs, which are well-toned from cheerleading. Her arms are quite spindly in comparison, though her shoulders are fairly broad, and her chest and waist are about uniform in width. Her posture is usually relaxed and skewed slightly to one side.

Chloé has very dark brown eyes, large, almond-shaped and slightly upturned. She has a conventionally pretty, heart-shaped face and an olive complexion, which sports freckles during the summer months which fade in the winter, though they're often covered up year round; she’s usually wearing a fair amount of makeup, giving her thick eyebrows and full lips. Her hair is a dark brown, and has some natural curls in it, with an overall wavy texture that’s neither thick nor thin. She tends to keep it long, usually wearing it behind or over her shoulders or, less commonly, in a messy ponytail.

Chloé’s wardrobe is expansive, but generally based around emphasizing her legs: skinny-fit jeans, leggings, and skirts matched with loose or baggy tops and sweaters. When she was abducted, this combination was a grey sweater worn over a white blouse and a red plaid circle skirt worn short around her waist. She also had a red scarf and a white winter coat, and wore black tights and boots to keep her legs warm. Chloé is usually wearing jewellery, most commonly stud earrings and a necklace with a Swiss cross on it.

Biography: Chloé was born in Geneva, Switzerland to Sébastien and Gemma Delacroix on the 21st of November, 2003. Sébastien, an investment banker, is a Genevan native, whereas Gemma, a former model, was born and raised in the south-eastern canton of Ticino; they met at a fashion show in Geneva and got married a year later in 1998. They had their first son, Jamie, in 1999, and Chloé four years later, going on to have another son, Charlie, in 2008.

Sébastien spent a lot of time at work, often abroad, and during the school year the Delacroix children were largely raised by their mother and a string of au pairs. They were brought up Roman Catholic and spoke Gemma’s native Italian at home, both of which would remain a key part of Chloé’s personal identity. When Sébastien’s work coincided with the school break, however, he took his children with him to spend more time with them. When they got old enough he would take them to work some days and try to explain his job to them in fun, interesting ways with the hope that they would follow in his footsteps when they were older.

One of the first traits Chloé exhibited as a young child was stubbornness, followed by a keen emotional intelligence. At school, she was a sociable and confident child who made friends easily, with her teachers commending her on her empathy and generosity in particular. She did well academically as well; Chloé and her brothers were privately educated, and had private tutors for a range of academic subjects and extracurricular activities. Academics didn’t come all that naturally to her, but her work ethic and perseverance paid off. In general, Chloé has a very organised and hardworking approach to her studies, making time for revision almost every night.

Gemma and Sébastien made their children partake in a large number of extracurricular activities from a young age; for Chloé this involved, at various points in her childhood, singing and piano lessons, swimming class, soccer, reading clubs and church activities. She lost interest in many of these hobbies, in large part because they weren’t ones she would have chosen herself, but they helped prepare her for her busy extracurricular schedule later on in her education.

An extracurricular activity that Chloé did enjoy was student council. She joined her primary school’s school council and has ran for a similar office in every school she’s attended since. It offered her an opportunity to help her peers that became very important to her as she developed an almost psychological need to help others. The validation she received from friends and teachers alike when she went out of her way to be helpful in turn helped her feel proud and increasingly confident; a failure to meet this need typically manifested in frustration and social anxiety.

Chloé developed a deeper interest in the basics of business and economics than would be expected of a pre-teen, wanting to impress her father and enjoying the precious time they spent together when he talked to her about his job. She looked up to him and eagerly applied herself to her studies with the hopes of being able to study economics at a good university when she was older.

In 2016, when Chloé was twelve, her father accepted a more permanent position abroad, in Boston. After much discussion the family decided to move to the States together, initially settling in the city. During this time Chloé became more active in the community, volunteering through the church and campaigning for the Democrats in the 2016 election. Her parents encouraged this, her father in particular, who was a small-scale philanthropist and politically active himself. She also joined her middle school’s debating team, enjoying the opportunity it provided to explore her new interests with others her age.

It was the volunteering that Chloé enjoyed most of all. Her psychological need to help others was now being regularly satisfied and she felt much better about herself as a result. She has continued to volunteer through high school, though gradually less and less regularly as her schedule got more busy.

Chloé is a solution-oriented person, and her first response to any problem is to search for a way to change it. As she grew up and became more aware of current affairs, she often found herself combining her desire to help people with her problem-solving skills and economic knowledge by dreaming up solutions to the pressing issues of the day. She became very opinionated, but always welcomed opportunities to build on those opinions with new knowledge and other people’s points of view. She is more pragmatic than ideological, but is in general anti-capitalist, supporting a centralised and democratic economy. and moderately progressive, with humanitarian and environmental issues at the forefront of her mind. She also began to explore the subject of philosophy, initially coming at it from a Catholic angle but later drawing on aspects of secular and eastern philosophy as well. She was fascinated by the interplay of politics, philosophy and economics, especially upon learning that was a course offered at certain universities. She sees theory without economic backing as impractical, and economics without philosophy behind them as immoral, cruel and destructive, believing the latter to be the greatest threat to the modern world.

A year later Sébastien had to relocate again, and his distance throughout their children’s childhood culminated in him and Gemma separating. Jamie was looking to stay in Massachusetts to study law at Harvard, and the others had settled happily into their new American lives, so the children stayed with Gemma in the states.

As a Catholic, their separation and its threat of divorce took a steep emotional toll on Gemma. Her self-loathing briefly caused her to lapse into depression, which Chloé was instrumental in helping her overcome. The two spent more bonding time together than ever before, and Chloé’s compassion and precocious wisdom, as well as her and her siblings’ help around the house, helped Gemma to adapt to their new life. On her part, Chloé found helping out rewarding, developing cooking and cleaning skills.

Gemma, now effectively a single parent, worked around the clock to provide for the family, but their lifestyle had to change. They moved into a smaller, less expensive house in West Salem, and Chloé and Charlie transferred into the public education system, with Chloé enrolling at John Endecott Memorial Academy in 2018. Chloé settled into JEM well. It helped that she joined at the beginning of the school’s freshman year, so many of the other students didn’t know each other either, and everyone was looking to make friends. Her natural charisma and conventionally attractive appearance also helped, and she quickly established herself as a member of the popular crowd.

These new friendships introduced her to new hobbies outside of her existing ones. She wanted something athletic to do to keep fit and healthy, and to round out her extracurricular activities, so she decided to join the cheerleading squad alongside some of the other popular girls. She also started attending parties, and occasionally hosting gatherings at her house when Gemma was away. She began dating as well, and by senior year had a handful of exes among the JEM student body. Chloé thrived on a busy schedule, and enjoyed the excitement that came from keeping busy. She absolutely hated what she considered wasting time, which was pretty much any time not spent working or socialising.

Academically, Chloé is a straight-A student. She remains on top of schoolwork despite her busy schedule through hard work, organisation and some less healthy coping mechanisms, namely an insufficient sleep schedule and an over-reliance on caffeine. She’s especially good at understanding other peoples points of view and articulating her own, and excels at essay-based examinations. She intends to further her studies at college, either in a combined PPE course or some combination of a major and minor in the three. With her high grades and impressive extracurricular portfolio, she is set on attending a prestigious university. Beyond that, she is undecided between committing to a career in academia or seeking a more practical application of her skills, perhaps in public office.

Chloé has a close and loving relationship with her mother and brothers. Jamie and Chloé were very close growing up, and they keep in regular contact while Jamie’s away at university. Chloé and Charlie have a typical brother-sister dynamic, loving but full of bickering. Her relationship with her father is more distant, though still loving in its own way. They see each other during holidays and on an annual skiing trip back in Switzerland, and get on well then, though don’t interact much outside of that.

Chloé speaks fluent French, Italian and English, rusty but conversational German she learnt in Switzerland’s multilingual education system, and a few phrases in Romansh and Latin, giving her a prodigious understanding of languages for someone of her age. She’s very well spoken as well, with a wide vocabulary and an aptitude for rhetoric devices honed on JEM’s debating team.

Chloé remains a practicing Catholic, though has become increasingly secular. Her faith has had a great influence on her personal philosophy, in particular her view of the importance of charity and kindness. A lingering belief that God has a plan also helps her find confidence that there is a solution to any problem and allows her to remain solution-oriented in the face of hardship.

Advantages: Chloé is a natural problem-solver, with the right attitude and logic to confront challenges and the determination and perseverance to tackle them. Additionally, her empathy and pre-existing friendships could allow her to diffuse tense encounters on the island. She's fit and athletic from cheerleading and, due to volunteering with children and at a hospital before, she also has some rudimentary first-aid training at her disposal.
Disadvantages: Chloé’s solution-oriented outlook isn’t well suited to a zero-sum game like Survival of the Fittest, where a pyrrhic victory is the best a player can hope for. This could demotivate her and leave her struggling to persevere. Her moral and religious beliefs could hold her back in a kill-or-be-killed situation, and she’s been outspoken enough about her views that others might remember and exploit them. These views have also made her a few enemies among those with differing philosophies. Her psychological need to help people could see her easily manipulated. Finally, her attitude and motivation will likely suffer in the absence of caffeine.
