DEFINITELY Would Not Rec!

After fifth announcement. Ask first because people are dying.

The recreation room was a larger room where the residents of the base would go to relax during downtime. The room has a collection of sofas and armchairs arranged facing a large grey CRT TV with built in VCR player that was usually used to play a variety of movies, a collection of VHS that can be found arranged on a bookshelf. The room also contains a ping-pong and pool table in its centre and a homemade bar along the far wall that was clearly added in later, even featuring a dusty neon sign for Coors.

No.

Nononononononononononononono!

Where in the world did those two come from? Was this an ambush? Or had Daenerys messed up by not checking the room before approaching Betty? Seeing how Betty showed no surprise by their arrival, the latter seemed more likely.

The two classmates, a guy and a girl, wielded weapons as well. Time to forget the backpack, she had to get out of here.

But her opponent wouldn't let her. A strong grip pressed down on her windpipe as D's back touched the wall once more. There was still blood running down the left side of her face, only slightly stopped by the bandages. It hurt.

Her arms pounded on the other girl, but they were too close towards each other for her to hit any weak spots. Also Daenerys had left were her legs.

The right of which kicked of the ground, slamming her knee into Betty. It created only a bit of distance, but this bit was enough.

Leaning back, D raised her leg again and slammed her foot against Betty's torso, the force managing to break the grip of her attacker, sending her flying backwards in the process.

Chiara watched as the girls continued to fight. Derek was now awake and also responding to everything.

From what Ty was saying, the girl who came in was one of the killers and had tried to sneak up on Ty. That was terrifying to think about. One of the most fearsome people on the island was there and could have easily stabbed them all with a trident without their knowledge.

Chiara continued to aim at the girls. Ty seemed to have the one girl pinned against the wall, so Chiara started to move forward. If the invader saw Chiara had a gun, maybe that would cower her into stopping the fighting and leaving.

But before Chiara could even make a step, the attacker had knocked Ty back. Chiara gasped, but kept the gun steady. She wasn't ready to fire yet, but she had to at least keep it trained on the villainous girl.

And then Derek messed up big time.

The first thing he did after screaming was unsheating his sword, throwing the sheath somewhere in the room. Because damn, this was the right time and place to use it if there ever was one.

Then he was remembered that the nodachi was a twohander. With his three missing fingers on one hand, he had trouble keeping the heavy instrument of murder still. All he could do was hold it firmly with his left hand and use the damaged right for adjustments on the direction it pointed.

Then he advanced, quickly running towards Ty who had the girl pinned to the wall.

All he had to do was aim for the wall right next to the attacker. As close as possible. This should scare her into backing off and allowing herself to get tied up or knocked out or whatever. No need for this to end in a murder.

His plan came crumbling down the moment Ty was launched by a kick in his direction.

One thing Ty always prided herself on was being one of the biggest, one of the strongest. The second she had her growth spurt she knew she had a reputation from that alone. Even more so when people knew she got into fights. She didn’t need to get into fights that often, sometimes reputation was enough to get what you wanted. To protect people. To keep things… orderly.

It helped that she was legitimately strong, too. She ate good, hearty meals. She practiced, even when she was stuck at home. She lifted. She jogged. She honed her body so that she could do whatever she wanted, be stronger, be more accomplished.

But, she was only human, and every body had its limits.

The well-timed kick had made Ty loosen her grip, causing her to land backwards into Derek. She only had a second to process what had happened. Only a second to gasp in shock.

The nodachi had slid deep inside her torso, puncturing multiple organs. It was on pure momentum alone, she might have survived, or at least was less injured, if things were a bit slower. If she had time to get out of the way. But she didn’t.

And when the blade slid out, she slumped to the floor, blood pooling around her.

Her vision dimmed quickly. She thought of big things, like maybe she shouldn’t have walked away from Przemek and Bethany. Were they even still alive? She thought of Calvin, and how she was maybe the last person who saw him alive before his death. She thought of Derek and Chiara. She thought maybe she could have looked harder for Quinn.

Her life flashed before her eyes. Of cheer meets, of exercising, of taking care of Storm, of making meals for her and dad, of reading about Harley Davisons, of spending time with her fellow cheerleaders and her fellow Betties.

The last thing she ever remembered was lawn games.

It was all too quick for Chiara to stop. She saw Ty falling, but then noticed Derek was running towards her with his sword. There was a collision, and suddenly Ty was impaled on the sword.

Chiara screamed as they fell together. Then she saw the blade be removed from Ty and Ty slump to the ground. The girl was bleeding out, and it didn't look good.

Chiara was beginning to pant, but that's when she noticed the attacker. The girl who had caused Ty to be stabbed to begin with. It was because of her. She was a murderer who came in to kill all three of them. And because Chiara wasn't quick enough, Ty was now seriously injured.

But because Chiara wasn't quick enough, there was now nothing standing between her and the invader.

Chiara pointed her gun at the girl, screamed, and repeatedly pulled the trigger. She kept going until she heard it click.

Daenerys didn't see the boy coming.

All she saw was that suddenly, a sword ripped through Betty's torso, who seemed perplexed for a moment before sinking to the ground, the sword leaving her again.

The boy stared at the results of his actions as if he couldn't believe it either.

But someone apparently could.

BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!

D was pushed back as three of the seven bullets hit their target. One ripped through her shoulder, the other two entered her torso. Searingly hot pain erupted all over her body. It was worse than anything, even the hole in her face.

She had to get out of here.

Without thinking, Daenerys somehow managed to pick herself up, the adrenaline allowing her to use whatever power she had left. She even ran past the cooler she had left standing outside the room alongside her backpack.

Gaining more supplies had been the intent of this endeavour, but Daenerys left with nothing but the clothes wrapped around her.

And the pain.

People say that when something extremely shocking happens, time slows down, allowing you to take in all the horrible details of the tragedy.

Nothing of the sort was the case for Derek. One moment, he was running forward with his sword to assist Ty. In the next, Ty was skewered on his nodachi, as if waiting to be put on a grill.

In the one after that, Derek stopped himself, instinctively, retreating a step. The blade left Ty, who instantly collapsed on the floor, never to move again.

And then the room erupted into noise as an entire magazine was unloaded on the intruder. Derek didn't spare her a glance as she got shot. Or as she made her exit. He just looked down on Ty's body, unfazed by the bullets flying pass by.

Just another loser who acted without thinking.

Chiara didn't break her stare as she repeatedly fired at the girl. From what she could hear and see, it looked like at least a few of the shots hit the girl. Once Chiara heard her gun click a few times, she realized she was out of bullets. She was worried the other girl would then attack her, but to her surprise, the girl immediately fled the room. Chiara could have tried to stop her, but the shock of it all prevented her from moving.

Once the invader was gone, Chiara turned to Derek and Ty. She lowered her gun and moved over to look at Ty. She got on one knee and put one hand out to check on the girl.

But that's when Chiara realized she wasn't breathing anymore. The stab wound was spilling all out on the floor of the rec room, mixing with the glass from the Coors Light sign.

"No...no..." Chiara quietly muttered.

Her eyes began to fill with tears, then finally left them.

"I..." she started.

"I'm sorry..."

Finally, Chiara started bawling and shouting. Her voice was broken, her accent drawing out each vowel in between each gasp for air.

"I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'm sorry!"

Crying was useless. Begging was useless. Apologies were useless.

Such were the lessons Derek Caldwell learned early in his childhood. Probably the only rules Frederika and Lucas made sure to teach him.

So while his companion bawled her eyes out, he just stood there, only his shaking hands giving a testament to his inner turmoil.

It wasn't enough.

Quick steps brought him in front of the bar. Derek raised the nodachi and brought it down on the wood with a scream, pumping all his emotions into this single swing. He failed in his task of splitting the bar in two, but succeeded in driving the weapon into the old wood so hard it remained stuck once he let go of it. With disgust Derek looked down at his handiwork. Letting out frustration by destroying random objects was something his father would do.

After this, there was little more to do than to pick up the pieces.

First he collected Zhijuan's - his own - backpack. Than he rumbled through Ty's finding the ammunition and manual for her weapon. Finally he picked up the gun itself, which on closer inspection turned out to be some sort of revolver. It felt heavy and awkward in his hand.

Derek would only be able to use it with his left hand and had no clue if reloading it in the middle of a gunfight would even be a possibility for him. But there was no way he would ever touch this cursed sword again.

With the weapon tucked away, the only thing left to do was to pick up the backpack of the girl whose name he might finally find out tomorrow.

He stepped back to her side.

Of all the things he wanted to say, only the coldest left his lips.

"We should go. Someone might have heard the gunshots."

Chiara barely noticed Derek's actions as she continued to cry for Ty. The pain of failing to save her from the attacker coupled with Chiara having shot the other girl was starting to weigh heavily on her. Chiara knew she had to be kneeling in Ty's blood from how wet her knees were getting, but she barely reacted to it.

It was when Derek finally told her they needed to go that she finally stopped her sobbing. She continued to sniffle and wiped her eyes, her face a streaked mess by this point.

She turned to Derek and nodded, but before she got up, she looked back to Ty.

She held a finger up to Derek and then moved over to the girl. She positioned Ty so she was laying on her back. After checking to make sure her eyes were closed, Chiara crossed Ty's hands over the wound. She also licked her thumb and wiped away some trickle of blood near the dead girl's mouth.

After that, Chiara made a quick sign of the cross, then stood up. She didn't have time to do a full prayer for Ty right now. She'd have to make time for that later. What mattered was getting what they could and fleeing. Derek's sword was now embedded in the bar, but the trident was still there to take. There was also a cooler left behind that they made sure to take. She wasn't sure what was inside, but it could be real food at the least. Maybe the attacked was one of the BKA winners.

With everything collected, Chiara followed Derek out of the room, and off to whatever could come from this madness.
