Polybius Relationship Thread 2024

Mohammed “Mo” Shadid

Theme: Girls! Girls! Girls! - Elvis Presley

The Egyptian Johnny Bravo, a decade-old concept that I won’t give up on despite all reason. He wasn’t in V6, or V7, or TV3 so here he is now. Mo comes from a conservative religious upbringing and as a teenager he’s fully in the throws of rebellion. And to Mo, rebellion means dressing like a 50s greaser and hitting on every attractive woman he sees. He’s got a pompadour, sunglass, leather jackets, and muscles. He’s constantly flirting with girls using a bad Elvis impression, regardless of how interested they seem, basically going right up to the lines of what he can get away with in our current times. He gets rejected most of the time, but it’s a numbers game. When Mo’s not chatting up the babes, he’s hitting the gym, admiring classic cars, or looking at himself in the mirror. He’s also a staunch atheist, but he generally keeps that quiet; he doesn’t want that getting back to his parents. The only King in Heaven he acknowledges is the King of Rock n Roll. Mo’s pretty friendly with everyone, including girls that keep rejecting him, but he just doesn’t pay attention to anyone’s feelings. At his core he’s a free spirit. He's stubborn, hotheaded, and rebellious. Mo values complete freedom, and he’s not going to let anyone or anything tie him down.

Relationships: ;)
-Friends. His male/nonbinary friends are probably fellow meatheads and rebels. His female friends are girls who he doesn’t find attractive or girls who’ve rejected him but put up with him anyway. Mo will generally keep flirting with girls until they give a pretty strong and firm rebuke, but after that he’ll respect the boundaries. Mo is generally self-absorbed and callous, he can be fun to hang around with but he blatantly disregards others’ feelings. He is the life of the party, though.
-Girls who he’s interested in, girls who’ve rejected him, girls who have hooked up with him. Mo generally follows societal beauty standards but he’s not that picky. Commitment is off the table entirely.
-Enemies. He doesn’t purposely antagonize people, but he doesn’t care if you hate him. If pushed, he’ll’ push back. He’s no chicken.

Bronson “Buster” Johnson

Theme: Yankee Doodle Boy - George M. Cohan

American patriot, neoliberal shill, and social butterfly. He’s one part prep and one part nerd. Buster’s life fascination is American history and culture, from a young age he’s loved all things Americana. He fully believes America to be the greatest country ever, despite its flaws. He’s also very involved in politics, as an establishment liberal and hardcore President Kirby supporter. Even after Thursday. Buster is very friendly to everyone, cheerful and quick with a joke, but he has a darker side he only lets out online. He spends a lot of time Xitter, with his main account that he uses to make jokes and retweet other liberals and his anonymous accounts that he uses mainly just to start arguments with people to the right or left of him, which is most people. Buster holds the world record of times blocked by Glenn Greenwald. He basically just takes all of his negative feelings in real life and throws them into online arguments. Buster’s also a comedy fan, interested in sitcoms, sketch comedy, and improv. He’s involved in student council, of course, and hopes to be your Red Rock class president. Buster’s real goal in life is to become a historian of American History, and to write the definitive biography of his favorite president, John Quincy Adams, that will be so meticulously researched it’ll make Robert A. Caro look like Mason Locke Weems. Buster also has a Substack, unfortunately.

Relationships: :D
-Friends. He’s friendly with everyone, but he really bonds with people who share his interests: politics, history, and comedy.
-Enemies? Buster his always gonna be himself. Whether you find his chipper extroversion to be annoying, or you think his politics suck, or you just think he’s a dork, he’s not going to apologize or change himself. He’ll generally just avoid people who dislike him, he’s not a fighter.
-Maybe other political people he anonymously harasses online who don’t even know that it’s him

Penny Vargas

Theme: Audience of One - Rise Against

Penny Vargas was an active and outgoing girl with a big imagination. She had a very close group of friends. Around the start of middle school, Penny started dealing with intense anxiety and OCD, and at the same time her friend group naturally drifted apart due to diverging interests. Not a good combination. Nowadays Penny is a quiet loner, the type of girl who doesn’t even talk in school unless a teacher calls on her. In her free time, Penny reads fantasy books and also works on her own fantasy world. She has a giant fantasy writing/worldbuilding project that she’s worked on for years but still hasn’t shown anyone else. She doesn’t have any friends, but she still can’t get over her old friends, and spends a lot of time stalking their social media and otherwise thinking about them. To her, they’re still her only friends, even if she hasn’t spoken to some of them in years.

Relationships: :|
-Okay, this one’s complicated. I made a whole other thread for the childhood friend group. So I have the pitch there.
-Very loose acquaintances. She doesn’t have friends, but there has to be at least a few people who kind of know her. Maybe those other loners who have to pair up with her in class for group projects because they’re always the odd one out, or something. Or even people who’ve been in group therapy with her.
-Bullies, maybe. If you’re a bully, here she is.

Jaime Finnegan (Meanwhile Only)

Theme: Experimental Film - They Might Be Giants

Jaime is a bit of a dabbler in the arts. They have an overwhelming urge to create something, but they’re still not sure what that thing is and what form it might take. And every time they think they’ve gotten it, they second guess themselves and give up. Jaime has dipped their toes in writing, drawing, youtubing, creating video games, and more. The thing they seem to come back to the most is film. They love horror movies and weird artsy movies, thought their own attempts at filmmaking haven’t gone any better than anything else they’ve tried. Jaime was diagnosed with autism at a young age, which caused their mother to become overprotective to the point of smothering. So Jaime is still pretty sheltered and is frustrated that their lack of real-world experience might be hampering both their social life and their creativity. Their mother definitely, DEFINITELY won’t let them go on any school trips, that’s how kids get kidnapped and forced to kill each other.

Relationships  :
-Friends. Jaime is relatively outgoing but also shy and passive. Most of their friends are people with similar interests, artists and weirdos of all stripes. They're also part of the Horror club, and they've joined and quit a few different artistic clubs as well.
-Collaboraters. Other artists they've worked on projects with. Might be frustrated with Jaime's general flakiness. That being said, if Jaime's just helping with production or editing and has no real creative stakes in the project, they're actually a pretty reliable worker. It's only when they have creative control that they start second guessing everything.

Hi, I have this one kid named Alec. He’s already been mentioned in the penny thread, but I have another idea.

Mo seems like the kind of guy Alec would really want to be like, so he would try and get Mo to fulfill the ‘teach the dweeb how to be cool’ trope. Idk whether Mo actually would or not, but I’m open to anything really.

I don’t have any other ideas sadly.

It's officially pregame month so I'm updating my thread here with my secret fourth (meanwhile only) character. And they all have theme songs now, that's cute. I'll be gradually adding in my established relationships.

Hello!! Awesome cast you have here hah! Here’s how I think they’d vibe with a few! Lemme know what you think! (Here’s my cast: viewtopic.php?t=9029)
  • Meghan “Meggy” Roberts:
    • Mo: Meghan would definitely find Mo funny and even be attracted to him, usually flirty with him and would like to hang out with him a lot. Whether they hooked up or not, not sure lmao
    • Bronson: Meghan would absolutely be on good terms with Buster, sharing the same practical wavelength on patriotism and chat about parts of history. Though if she ever found out his personal internet hobbies, she’d be wary and distance herself,
  • Chester Brenton:
    • Mo: Chester would, at some time, find Mo annoying due to his general behavior, yet in some part, admires his freedom and rebellious nature and finds himself respecting him. I could see Chester hanging out with Me, most likely at the gym.
    • Penny: Would always see her by herself, and maybe at one point thought she was pathetic. With his deduction skills and keen eye, Chester understands Penny’s situation, and finds it almost pitiable though would refrain from comforting her. He probably paired up with her sometimes in projects, and try to make small talk to gauge her interests.
  • Abigail “Abby” Lester:
    • Mo: Abby would be amused and interested in a friendship with Mo, despite him being a atheist and hitting on women constantly. I could see Abby immediately rejecting his advances but still be nice to chat with him, whenever Russell isn’t around of course. She would probably asked if he ever listens to any Christian Rock bands and about his religious upbringing, always non-judgmentally as she’s very curious to understand and Learn
    • Bronson: Bronson probably bullied her online when she posted a Christian volunteer work at her church as well a petition for more government funding for medication osteoporosis, which probably resulted in her crying in the school bathroom from the hate. She doesn’t know i
    • Penny: Discussed her on the thread
  • Russell Otto:
    • Mo: Would despise him for his perceiving better confidence and is demeanor, and would quickly grow jealous if he sees Abby chatting with him and if he sees her, takes her away with a laugh and a little too forceful pull.
    • Penny: He’d definitely bully her, mostly because Abby used to be her friend, and would constantly mock her nerdiness, anxiety and OCD, and making sure no one else was around when he does it.
May Love Guide you!

*Noodle in 19-2000 voice* Here we go!!

Mohammed "Mo" Shadid

Sylvie Rattray-Aubert

I think that Sylvie is one of the girls Mo has attempted to approach or is currently interested in. While she did/will reject him, she's bewildered by his sheer unadulterated confidence and how he's just a pretty friendly guy underneath the constant flirting. She also just thinks his demeanour as a whole is really funny to watch and be around.

Raya Loux

Raya is a pretty attractive woman, and it helps she shares a few of Mo's interests- that is, the gym and the admiration of classic cars. She's in the same boat as Sylvie in that she finds his demeanour hilarious despite his attractions. I'd like to think Mo rolled up to Raya working in her garage one day, tried to hit her up, and after getting shot down, they proceeded to bond over how cool old cars were.

Céline Sharpe

Céline doesn't put much effort into her appearance, but in the hypothetical scenario Mo *did* hit on her, she'd probably experience a short-circuit. She'd either completely pretend he isn't there or break into a sprint.

Manuel "Mañana" Hernández

Like almost the rest of my crew, Manuel thinks this guy's *hilarious.* He's a bit of a meathead and a rebel himself, and he enjoys hanging around him because it's just such a fun time.

Bronson "Buster" Johnson

Sylvie Rattray-Aubert

Mostly an acquaintance to Bronson due to his outward friendly chipperness, they might've stopped to discuss politics on some deeper levels at several points.

Penny Vargas

Manuel "Mañana" Hernández

Manuel was among Penny's group of friends during childhood, and he can't exactly deny he misses those days. Although he can't exactly interact with Penny anymore due to his new social standing and circle, he goes out of his way not to act like a dick to or around her.
The V9 Children themselves:

The Machininst
[+] Raya Loux
Tall, muscular, attractive mechanic girl. Part of a metalworking club and a confident, protective and and friendly personality.
The Petite
[+] Sylvie Rattray
Extremely tiny (4'7) soft girl and flyer for the cheer squad. Exciteable, peppy personality with a latent hidden layer of insecurity.
The Forlorn
[+] Céline Sharpe
Strange-named and stranged-clothed girl, ostracized and bullied for essentially being an advertising board for her "psychic" mother. As a result is extremely withdrawn.
The Tough Guy
[+] Manuel Mañana Hernández
Tall, stocky tough boy, member of the basketball team, nicknamed Mañana by his friends. Kind of a bully jock who treats his close friends with protectiveness and hearty, tough love.
