Mr. Lukas Groenendijk

Math Teacher

NPCs (non-player characters) go here. This section is for characters who will not be participating in the game, including teachers and school administration. To encourage consistency, the staff have created a number of ready-made teachers, all of whom are available for free handler use unless stated otherwise. Please link any appearances these staff make in threads by replying to their topics. For this pregame, any additional NPCs will require staff approval on a case-by-case basis. Please contact staff if you wish to create any NPCs, and note that we will generally be trying to keep their numbers slim; pregame is, first and foremost, about the students.

Mr. Lukas Groenendijk

#1

Post by SOTF_Help »

Name: Lukas "Mr. G" Groenendijk
Position: Math Teacher
Gender: Male
Age: 23

Appearance: Lukas is a rather gangly 6'7" and has a somewhat nervous, overeager disposition. He has a thatch of blond hair, which always starts the day styled neatly but almost always winds up mussed by lunchtime, due to a tendency to run his fingers through it while thinking. He wears tin-rimmed glasses, and has periwinkle blue eyes. He often wears a dark blazer over a light shirt, due to a tendency to sweat through dress shirts. He is always clean-shaven. His voice is deeper than his gangly frame would suggest, and has a friendly cadence to it.

Biography/Personality: Lukas is a recent graduate of the Bachelor of Education program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He spent some time substitute teaching in the city before being hired on at Red Rock to replace a retiring veteran teacher. Lukas isn't skilled at classroom management, and often tends to take a hands-off, "let's be friends" approach to discipline. This is perhaps best evidenced by his decision to have students call him "Mr. G" rather than having them attempt to spell his surname or risk the many potential strategic mispronunciations of "Groenendijk." He is lenient to a fault, and often seeks to avoid handing out detentions.

Lukas' teaching background is primarily in English and history, and he does not have a particular passion or talent for math. He lacks confidence in his subject knowledge, often needs to stay up late refreshing himself on the course material before the next day's lessons to avoid making mistakes. He is affable, but quite serious about the material - as this is his first teaching position, he hopes to be at the school for a while and eventually be transferred out of the math department. He is often willing to stay behind after class to help students work through difficulties they may be having in his class, or devise makeup assignments for students who need them.
