Songtest #146: EGOT

#1

Post by Laurels »

Hello everyone!

Coming off my win in the last songtest, I'm ready to explore what it means to be a winner. It takes a lot of hard work, dedication to your craft, continuous improvement, and one hell of a PR campaign to make your music decorated. So for this contest, I want this to be all about the winners, but to go for those who are 1/4 of the way to one of the biggest titles you can achieve in your lifetime.

SONGTEST #146: EGOT

Image
For those who don't know what that is, an EGOT is a distinction for any artist or creative type who has won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony in their lifetime. It's a rare distinction that, as of this contest, only 27 individuals have won.

For this songtest, you must submit a song that has won one of these four distinctions. These can either be a specific song or a piece of score from an award-winning piece of work. To help you out, I will provide some links for research, as well as some special provisos depending on whether your song won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, or Tony, as there are some specific conditions for each.

* If you want to submit an Emmy-winning song, you may submit from either one of the three score categories, or you may submit a full title theme or an original song written for a show.

* If you want to submit a Grammy-winning song, you may submit any individual song that has won. To help narrow, I won't accept songs that were off Grammy-winning albums unless the song specifically won an award (ex. Dua Lipa's Future Nostalgia album won Best Pop Album, but none of the songs on it won Grammys on their own, so those don't count). There are numerous categories that are song/performance specific and by genre, so browse here for ideas.

* If you want to submit an Oscar-winning song, please choose winners from Best Original Song or Best Original Score.

* If you want to submit a Tony-winning song, because Tony's don't give awards for songs on their own, you may select from any musical that has won one of these four awards related to shows, or a song from something that won in the score category.

* Lastly, it should be obvious, but this is solely for those who have won one of the four awards, not nominees. As long as it's easy for me to verify that it won (you may provide justification in your submission), it should be fine.
[+] more rules but these are the general ones
- submit your song via PM or Discord, whichever's easier for you (I would very much prefer Discord though)
- songs will be randomly divided into 1, 2 or 3 semifinals depending on turnout. if there are less than 20 submissions within 5 days, then there will only be one final round. if you're going to be away at some point in the next couple of weeks, let me know and I can try to put your song in a round when you'll be here.
- listen to every song and give points to your top 10 favorites: 12 to your favorite, 10 to your second, 8 to your third, 7 to your fourth, and so on down to 1 point for your tenth favorite. if there are less than 10 songs to vote for in a round, then simply cut off the bottom portion of the ballot (i.e. no 1 point songs, no 2 point songs, and so on)
- if your song is in a given round, you must vote that round or you'll be eliminated. if your song isn't in that round (or you aren't in the contest at all), your vote will be counted as a public vote, which counts for half points.
- the top [x] songs will move on to the final. that number depends on the number of contestants.
- repeat the process for the finals and we get a winner.
- winner gets to hold the next contest, or they can pass the job along to 2nd place if they don't want to. 2nd place can pass down to third, etc, until someone wants to host.

General song rules:
- no eurovision songs
- no reality show/competition covers
- no songs already submitted in a songtest: reference here, please note that is adjourned up until songfest #111!
- there is no penalty for length in this contest. however, if a song goes over 7 minutes, listeners aren't obligated to listen to more than the first 7 minutes of it. Choose a long song at your own risk!

courtesy rules:
- if you know at the start of your semifinal that you wont be available to vote for those three days, let me know ASAP and I can move you to another semi, if we aren't on the final one already.
- I'll be pinging everyone who hasn't voted on discord 48 and 24 hours before the round ends.
- Have fun! (Pliz 🙏)
Due to the holiday period, I will give folks until 11 pm EST on Thursday, January 2nd to submit. You may send via board PM or Discord DM, and feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.

Let's get some gold!

Mortimer Schuab - The creator is converted into an avatar of all. Happy to tell you that life is completely meaningless and that everyone is going to die horribly.
Emma Drakenberg-West - Rebelling against the system with the power of metal and punk music gets you by, only for a little while, unless you decide to do the right thing only by getting your hands dirty.
Joanne Martinez - She enforces the authority of the school, but even a queen bee must lose the stinger. Now, she wants to make her point clear on who rules.
Vanessa Thibodeaux - Humans and animals are both the same. The lines officially blur for a butcher who will now become the executioner.
