They have very little in common so things are probably awkward between them, though I doubt they'd be outright enemies. Being playfully mean to Ren would probably be pretty oof for them because their feelings are easily hurt, but they're not likely to say so outright, so they probably feel some kinda undercurrent of resentment towards him? They're also weeblite but not particularly vocal about it, so dunno if he'd refuse to associate with them because of that.

Mariel + Alice: I think I'm probably gonna put Alice into cross-country, so they can know each other through that. Alice appreciates a joker. She's not much for being humorous herself, really, so she'd be hard to play off of, but she likes the quality in others. Might let Mariel know this explicitly, or might just give off a vibe of "I Appreciate You," dunno which one I'd go for yet.
As long as Ren isn't like weird about it Raf would have no problems with them on the weeb front, otherwise I can def see what you're describing—they barely interact but get along due to mutual friends. When teasing Ren Raf proobably plays up their 'honorary' status which could possibly come off as othering them? But Raf believes it's all in good fun.

And I can see Mariel and Alice getting along! At the very least they'd chat each other up during practice and meets, and I can see Mariel (unsuccessfully?) rope her into a funny man/straight man type dynamic.

Ren would actually probably try to take that in stride--they would feel hurt, but like, he's not wrong, and they wonder a lot if they should even be here. Depending on the tone of his joking, Ren might actually interpret things as him covertly/passive-aggressively telling them that they're not welcome in the group? In which case Ren actually would leave, at least for a bit.

 Alice might play along from time to time, but she probably won't do so consistently!

There's a café near where I live called the Boston Tea Party. Not at all pertinent to this discussion, but it does a fantastic vegetarian breakfast.

More importantly:

Anthony Rafael
  • Fred would be a basketball teammate, but they don't have much else in common. Friendly acquaintances at best?
  • Chloé is also a straight A student on the model UN, so they might have been friendly, or even romantically involved once. I don't think Chloé would get along that well with a passive-aggressive neoliberal anymore though. Maybe he drove her away with by taking that playful meanness too far? Idk
Jordan
I don't know how much overlap there is between Jordan's online friendships and their democratic socialism, but if they spent much time in DemSoc spaces online, there's a greater-than-zero chance they might have befriended Chloé. Otherwise, probably not much interaction.

Kiana
Killing two birds with one stone, Chloé could both push her further left and/or act as a popular/outgoing girl to orbit/crush on. Chloé was raised Catholic too, so they could bond over that, but I don't imagine they'd be too close.

Mariel
I think she'd get on well with Maddie. Maddie was also a very outdoorsy child, so they could have been childhood friends. Maddie also enjoys paintballing and has considered the ROTC, so they have a fair bit in common, and Maddie would find the class-clown types quite funny. She would not, however, appreciate the alleged "musical genius of 100 gecs."

Raf and Darryl would probably be friends through their shared interests in basketball and Model UN.

I've been meaning to get to this one for a hot minute now and I keep losing track, but now I've got ideas! Ideas to share!

Raf
Here's someone Beth might actually be able to get on with! He's her type of guy, and if he feels the same, well...
That said, I noticed an implied distaste for Protestants, how does he feel about Anglicans? I hadn't quite settled on Bethany's precise faith yet but that's the way I've been leaning.

Jordan
Well, Beth's probably made fun of them at some point.

Kiana
Depending on her type, might be some one-way crushing going on with either of my gals, one being sporty and the other being outgoing and glamourous, but neither of them have much in common to really know her in return?

Mariel
Might know Beth via some of the boys in JROTC that Beth likes, otherwise I haven't got much here but it would've felt rude not to include her.

Raf would def be friendly towards Fred, but there wouldn't be much beyond that. On the other hand, I can see him and Chloé having a history together! I'd be open to them being friendly and being a Thing briefly, maybe like freshman/sophomore year pre-quarantine. Jordan's not particularly vocal about their political views online outside of being vaguely left-leaning, but they probably hold her in high regard. I could also see Kiana admiring Chloé from a distance, and maybe having one or two friendly interactions! Mariel and Maddie would also be two peas in a pod.

Yeah! If Darryl's good enough at basketball then Raf probably hounds him about joining the team tho

Raf's disdain for Protestants is 100% ironic, he's totally cool with it and just saw this meme once and constantly references it bc he was raised Roman Catholic. He and Beth are totally cool. I can see Jordan and Beth having an uncomfortable history, too. Kiana isn't too fond of conservatives, but she'd definitely like Evie from afar. Mariel's politics are very ???? but she'd probably not be too fond of Beth either way, but is polite when they interact.
