Appearance: Mrs. Hernandez is a short, curvy woman of mixed Latina and Native American descent. She stands at 5'2" and weighs 148 pounds, with wide hips and a slightly pudgy stomach resulting in a pear-shaped figure. She has a round face, a snub nose, and thin lips. Her eyes are narrow and dark brown, always framed by a pair of brown and blue horn-rimmed glasses. Mrs. Hernandez has extremely curly black hair, which she rarely bothers trying to tame; the volume of her hair adds another two inches or so onto her height on particularly humid days.

Mrs. Hernandez dresses in earthy tones most of the time, generally brown and subdued yellow. She errs on the comfortable side of professional, with cardigans, pencil skirts or slacks, and ballet flats. She does wear quite a bit of jewelry, particularly rings and dangling earrings, and it isn't uncommon to hear her complaining about one of her earrings getting tangled up in her hair.

Biography/Personality: Vicky Hernandez, nee Johnson, grew up in the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, though her family also traced ancestry to Mexico and Peru. She attended college at the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga, where she intended to major in accounting, but a semester spent traveling and volunteering in South America for her minor in Spanish brought forward a greater interest in the language itself and turned her onto the idea of teaching. She switched her major to education and received certification for teaching at a high school level. A few years after graduation, she married Eduardo Hernandez, whom she met in Peru during her semester abroad, and the couple settled in Chattanooga where Vicky had just landed her first permanent teaching position. They have stayed there ever since, and their son is currently in the third grade in a Chattanooga elementary school.

To her students, Mrs. Hernandez is known as an energetic and engaging teacher, though those who struggle with the material might find the pace of her classes even more daunting. Her classes have a heavy emphasis on class participation, with her preferred methods of immersion being oral reports and scenes acted out in Spanish. Mrs. Hernandez rarely calls out slackers directly in class, preferring to let their participation grades take the blow, but she is forgiving to those that seem to be struggling if they are making a genuine effort. She teaches ESL classes part time at surrounding elementary schools, and is always happy to give advice to those with an interest in traveling to Central or South America for educational or career purposes, as she averages at least one trip a year to visit her husband's family.
