Hi.

I figured I'd use the space here to say that yeah, there were very clear issues with the previous theme and a notable amount of grief came out because of that. I am sorry for this, and ideally for those who elected to not join because the theme was unappealing or difficult to find options for I hope that this new contest will be significantly easier (although I still do ultimately understand if the backlash and arguments surrounding what has happened has turned you off on joining altogether, I wish there was another way but I do not hold ill-will towards you).

In regards to the rules:

- submit your song via PM or discord, whichever's easier for you

- songs will be randomly divided into 2 or 3 semifinals depending on turnout. if you're going to be away at some point in the next couple of weeks, let me know and I can try to put your song in around when you'll be here.

- listen to every song and give points to your top 10 favourites: 12 to your favourite, 10 to your second, 8 to your third, 7 to your fourth, and so on down to 1 point for your tenth favourite.

- if your song is in a given round, you must vote that round or you'll be eliminated. if your song isn't in that round (or you aren't in the contest at all), your vote will be counted as a public vote, which counts for half points.

- the top [x] songs will move on to the final. that number depends on the number of contestants. I'm gonna be trying to pare down the finals a bit this time around so that probably means more semifinal eliminations. you have been warned

- repeat the process for the finals and we get a winner.

- winner gets to hold the next contest, or they can pass the job along to 2nd place if they don't want to. 2nd place can pass down to third, etc, until someone wants to host.

song rules:
- no eurovision songs
- no reality show/competition covers
- no songs already submitted in a songtest
- there is no penalty for length in this contest. however, if a song goes over 7 minutes, listeners aren't obligated to listen to more than the first 7 minutes of the song. so choose a long song at your own risk!

each semifinal and the final will last for four days. some rules about activity/extensions:
- if you know at the start of your semifinal that you won't be available to vote for those four days, let me know asap and I can move you to another semi, if we aren't on the final one already.
- I'll be posting every 24 hours in this topic as a reminder, as well as pinging everyone who hasn't voted on discord 24 hours before the round ends.
- extensions will only be granted in extenuating circumstances. forgetting to vote until an hour before the deadline is not an extenuating circumstance.

And, in regards to theme: Notes:
- The song you nominate should ideally be the first track on its given album. There will be some leniency granted which will be placed in a different note but in general, please try to go for the first (or close-to-the-first) track of an album.
- If possible, when submitting, it would be appreciated if I received a tracklist to the album, just so double-checking is easy.
- If you wish to nominate a track that fulfils the criteria but isn't technically the first track of its album, or if you want to nominate a track that isn't from an album, feel free to talk to me about it and give justification as to why you think it fits the theme of "album openers," and if the justification is strong enough I will grant leniency.

One more note, separate from the theme: a lot of grievance was aired at me personally for the previous theme, and while some of it was warranted because I did not think things through, I feel like what some people said went way over the line, to the point where my mental health was not in a great place. I particularly felt that the criticism and response from Emprexx Plush was handled in non-constructive and aggressive fashion, both in their statements in chat and in their decision to submit this as a "song" for the previous theme, and as such am barring them from participating in this round. I'm always open to feedback and appreciate the many people who politely and constructively helped me understand and deal with the flaws of my original concept. In this particular instance, however, the manner and method crossed the line and felt decidedly mean-spirited, so I'm opting to not stand for it.

Other than that, I have no issues, and people are free to sign up as they please. Slate is going to be wiped clean for submissions, so if anyone wants to submit something they submitted for the previous theme they're going to have to restate their submission, sorry.

(as always, people in italics have not signed up with a song yet — in addition, once I feel like it I'll put an official timer on submissions, although the first semifinal will be unlikely to go up anytime on or before the 16th my time, as a general statement)
