Killing Time

As one might imagine, the school's library is filled with, well, books. Tables and chairs are placed around the room in neat little groups, and everything always seems to be in its rightful place... perhaps because Mrs. Collins, the school's librarian, has horrible OCD.

((Jennifer Wainwright's introduction))

The library was pretty much deserted when Jennifer walked in. No surprise really. Most people are either in class or have gone home for the day. So it was just her, a couple of random students with permission to study for finals, and the librarian.

God, she wanted to be home. Her parents wouldn't be getting off of work for another couple of hours. She'd have plenty of time to dip into their stash of pot, smoke a bowl, air out her room, and have dinner ready by the time either of them pulled into the drive way. Except she had to stay because Jessica was out sick and somebody had to drive Jamie to work after school. Playing chauffer to her screechy, bossy, fifteen year old sister is definitely not what she wanted to be doing on her day off. Fuckin' responsibilities. Could be worse though.

At least most of the computers were free. She could spend the next half-hour researching - Oh, who was she kidding? She could have every intention of looking up stuff for her essay on 'Moll Flanders' but she knew it'd just degenerate into a wiki walk. There's no point in fighting it.

Jennifer sat down at one of the terminals and logged on. While it loaded she pulled her cell phone from her pocket and texted 'in library' to her little sister so she won't have to go looking for her. With that done she put her phone back and pulled a cheap little MP3 player out of her pocket, put in her ear buds and typed www.tvtropes.org into the address bar. She still hadn't checked out all of the entries under 'Crowning Moment of Awesome'.

Forty minutes later there's a tap on her shoulder so Jennifer turned around to find a sour face scowling at her. Jamie was already in her busboy uniform.

"Are you ready?" Jamie said.

There is so much attitude in Jamie's voice that Jennifer couldn't help but fling it right back with a, "Not yet." as she slowly took out her earplugs and put away her MP3 player before closing down the seven windows she'd managed to open.

"If you make me late -" Jamie started.

"You'll be damned grateful you didn't have to walk." Jennifer finished, getting up from her seat and heading out to her car not even bothering to see if Jamie was following.
