Name: Samson Everett
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Grade: 12
School: Bayview Secondary School
Hobbies and Interests: Running (Track and Cross Country), Piano, Strategic board games and other mental challenges, Being alone in nature
Appearance: At 6'0" and 165 lbs, Samson has a very lean, but toned, physique. His running has kept him in excellent shape since he was a child, and he has worked out just enough to keep the rest of his muscles (that is, other than his legs) athletically competent. He usually develops a full body tan during track and cross country seasons, which only slightly fades toward his natural Caucasian skin tone during the winter and summer, when he prefers running at night. He keeps his moderately brown hair very short, not quite buzzed. His face is lean and defined, with a thin mouth and thin eyes, but captivating blue irises. He is always clean-shaven, mostly due to genetics and has naturally kempt eyebrows. Many other students have found him attractive, and thought perhaps he should try modeling, but he has remained completely unaware of their feelings due to his independent nature.
He hates the feeling of baggy clothes, and can often be seen wearing thin jeans or khakis and randomly colored T-shirts with non-Brand-related graphics. His mannerisms suggest he is very laid back, often slouching at his desk.
Biography: Samson has spent his life as a member of an upper middle class family living in a heavily wooded area on the outskirts of town. His father works as a philosophy and religion professor at a local university and his mother is an elementary school teacher in a neighboring town. He has a single sibling, a brother, Michael, who is eight years his elder.
Since the beginning, Michael was ecstatic to have younger brother, finally someone to play with, confide in and rely on. Impatient with the rate at which his younger brother was growing up, Michael would come home from school every day and play young Samson's teacher. Samson would enthusiastically play along, naive and curious as he was. When Samson finally started school, his parents were naturally very involved in his education, but they soon realized he was quite confident on his own, and they let him alone to flourish.
Samson looked up to his brother as the main role model in his life. It seemed to him Michael knew everything there was to know in the world, and that endless knowledge fascinated him. Even with such an age disadvantage, he would always try to compete with his brother as if they were equals. They'd race to the tops of trees, beat each other at board games, video games, or simply watch game shows on TV.
The other students at school seemed to act generally amiable toward him, and as a result he had many opportunities to make friends. It seemed his intellect and studiousness, which had only just begun to come across during school had earned him the respect of those in class with him. Unfortunately, he often felt the others were trapped at levels of thinking far beneath his own and could hardly handle their ignorant arguments and blind gossip. Such was the consequence of having a brother far older than himself. As a result, he chose not to make any particularly close friends at school, instead spending his free time with his brother and family at home.
When Samson was in sixth grade, Michael decided to leave the country with his girlfriend (his brother was 20 at the time). Michael said he didn't like the direction the country was headed, but Samson couldn't allow himself to understand whatever foolish explanations his brother was trying to give. He withdrew from others. He became interested in running because of the excitement it gave him at night when no one was around and to feel like the only person in the world. Likewise for hiking. Simply being alone in nature and having the time to consider the state of the world while having the opportunity to experience it as it would have been minus man was his new-found niche.
His parents decided to redecorate the house, and they decided to move the piano he had long taken lessons on to the basement. He began spending hours down below playing and composing for himself. Music remained something that always cheered him up.
After his brother left, he no longer tried to compete with others. It would be silly to try and beat people he already knew he was better off than ("better off" used here because he understood he was lucky to have his natural talents). Instead he competed solely with himself. He tried to untangle and understand the world and solve all its social and intellectual puzzles in his mind. As a philosophy and religion professor, his dad had unintentionally ingrained such curiosities about the world into his son. Naturally, Samson could not understand death. No religion, he felt, could adequately prepare someone for it, and as a result it scared him immensely.
He liked to watch this one show called Survival of the Fittest to see if he could outsmart the players in the game. He always thought he would do pretty well. But anytime someone died, he'd get unexpectedly emotional. He couldn't control it, and that lack of control frightened him. Gone. From this world. Forever. He knew it was real. Fortunately, the chances were almost nonexistent that he'd ever have to participate in such a game. He had actually taken the time to calculate everything out and make sure. He tried to keep himself reassured, but as with all situations, remained wary of the minute possibility.
At high school, Samson finally began to open up again because some other students were actually beginning to think at an adult level. He gained several close friends from his Honors classes, a few clubs and from his Track and Cross Country teams. Fortunately, running was not an activity that required scholarly analysis, and others would often earn his respect and friendship simply by showing they had strong determination to succeed at their craft. He visited the Chess Club on occasion, but held no interest in the Academic Decathlon, although many people had encouraged him to participate. He actually wasn't all that great at remembering random bits of knowledge, but good enough to get by in his classes if necessary. He much preferred subjects like mathematics and English, where his imagination allowed him to find answers to complex problems and use creativity to achieve academic goals.
He remained mostly out of the public light, other than some academic awards and running successes. He refused to be team captain and reassured the coaches that others were much better candidates. He believed he went through school without making any enemies - he didn't believe squabbles were worth it - but if he had, it was completely unintentional.
Advantages: He's athletic and agile, which is always good in tight situations. He's always aware of surroundings - a side effect of being alone often. He's intelligent and good at problem solving, though social problem solving may be a different story. He's reasonably respected by the other students, the ones who know him at least.
Disadvantages: He is utterly frightened by the idea of death, his or anyone else's, which is always a bad thing in a killing game. He has no familiarity with weapons. He's irritated by most people his age - may cause frustration in such a serious situation. He has little to no experience leading.
