#2: In this waking hell I am

[Julie continued from The Marsh. I think]
Sato was frantic. Moving quickly, he navigated through the jungle as best he could, dark eyes darting between the map in his hand and his current surroundings.
Search as he might, his sister was nowhere to be found.
Somehow this situation sounded all too familiar in the world of SOTF. Someone searching for a person dear to them, only to have it all end in tragedy was a scenario that seemed almost a cliche in the series. Hell, wasn't there a guy who died trying to find his younger sister when she wasn't on the island?
So what if it's turned into an old story that's been made and told before, Sato could care less about that right now. He was single-minded in his search for his twin sister, Rio.
People would think it odd of him to be concerned about someone who had outright bullied him for the better part of his life, but how could he think about that right now? She was his sister, and a world without her would be like an Earth without a sky. Sato couldn't imagine coming home everyday receiving a drop-kick (from hers truly) to the forehead upon stepping through the front door. She had taken YEARS off of his life, but she was his sister, and he had to find her...
He didn't even want to think about the game. Killing other students? That was already out of the question for him. No, the game called SOTF was something beyond his care, out of his hands, and none of his concern. His own classmates were killing each other, and as much as it tore him apart to think about it, he simply couldn't let it occupy his thoughts right now.
Sato emerged from the forest, meeting an expanse of white sand... for a moment he thought he'd stepped out of a dream, it was hard to believe that he was still on the same blood-covered corpse-strewn island when there was simply this deserted, relatively untouched shoreline....completely void of life.
The voice of the surf was almost meditative. He wondered if death was this peaceful.
A groan interrupted his thoughts.
Looking sidelong, he frowned slightly, before something caught his attention, and hurriedly he made his way across the sand towards the body lying on the ground.
He recognized the student almost immediately by her tall physique and coppery hair. He'd only spoken to Julie Mikan a few times on occasion, and Sato noticed that she seemed to be a rather solitary individual: taciturn and stoic in outward appearance, and rather reluctant to associate with others.
Somewhat like himself, Sato thought to himself.
He was more concerned of the fact that she was injured, and badly it seemed. He noted a sparse trail of blood which indicated the direction she'd arrived from.
Come to think of it...wasn't her name on the announcements? Didn't she kill someone? Two people, even?
Without a second thought, Sato let the spade fall and dropped to one knee. Whisking out his daypack so it was in front of it, he quickly unzipped it open and pulled out the first-aid kit.
Looking at her, Sato knew she needed help, and fast. Her wound looked as though they'd been left untended for a while, and as such Sato worked quickly. He'd treated his own injuries in kendo, but of course he had never had such experience with gunshot wounds. Nevertheless, he worked as best he could, disinfecting her wounds and bandaging them up. All the while she remained perfectly still. Sato noted the butterfly knife in her hand, for maybe a second or two out of curiousity....but then turned his attentions back towards treating her wounds.
"...I think....you'll be alright now," He remarked quietly, though he probably couldn't hear her.
It surprised even himself that he wasn't questioning or thinking second thoughts about helping this person he barely knew...one who was a killer, even.
Well, it wasn't as though she was a complete stranger. As mentioned before, they'd talked on occasion. Sato never thought she was a bad person. Just a bit....detached. Maybe lonesome, even.
He'd lost track of the time before he realized...he had to keep looking for Rio.
Julie had yet to wake, but Sato had done all he'd been able.
"Sorry... I gotta look for my sis. You'd understand, right?" The look on his face was apologetic as he picked up his daypack, and his assigned weapon, and quickly took off again along the shoreline.
Only a few seconds later did, Julie awoke to the feeling of dulled pain in her injuries, and freshly applied bandages around them.
Groggy, disoriented, and completely bewildered at the sight of her newly treated injuries, she held her head shakily, looking around.... that's right, she'd fainted from all that running, and the anemia. And yet somehow she was still alive...
Ugh...was that sand crawling up the leg of her jeans?
...She shook her head to clear it, and then looked around frantically? Who? Who was the one who looked after her? The only person she could think of was Adam...to be fair, she'd treated him before. But then again, she'd also shot at him too...
Julie could see the figure in the distance ahead, someone she didn't quite recognize, as his back was towards her. "H-hey! Hey you!" She called after him. But of course he was too far away to hear.
And with that, Julie was left to her own to come up with an explanation for this unexpected benevolence... why help her? HER, of all people? There was no answer for it, no reason she could think of. It was hard to believe, and it didn't make any sense to her at all. She didn't deserve this, she ought to have been left there, no one had any reason to help her, and if she was a sinner damned of her right to live then she ought not to have been given that second chance.
And yet...
Somehow a wave of emotions hit her hard there and then. Lacking the strength to move from where she'd woken up, she sat up and curled her arms around her knees. Making sure she was alone, Julie lowered her head, and let the tears come for as much and for as long as they needed to.
[Sato continued elsewhere]
