The V4 Read-a-Thon

Good evening everyone! It's the Cactus again. We've managed to migrate over to our new home, and all of our past versions have - for the most part, been brought over and have new homes. This is a good thing! In the spirit of using what's new to look back on what's old, I think it's finally time to open the treasure chest that is V4.

For me, V4 is the version that I know the least about (even though rumour says I was in it), and so I'm hopeful that we as a community can go back and see what made the longest and most populated version of SOTF unique.

As with anything, there are a few ground rules I'd like to toss in place before we go:

Ground Rules:
  1. SOTF is a writing site that has evolved over time. That means that you're going to inevitably run into characters that you don't like. That's perfectly fine! You don't have to like or dislike everything, but we'd appreciate if you gave it a fair shake. Please don't write a one-line review saying "adam dodd wuz a poop hed rip". That doesn't tell anyone anything and just ends up being a little obnoxious in hindsight.
  2. At the end of every review, it'd be great if you would clearly state if you'd recommend the character or not.
  3. Let's try to refrain from bashing any handlers/characters that we don't like. Some of us can speak from experience that it's tough to look back on a review of your old writing and see scathing comments attacking you as a human being. As above, it's totally okay if you don't like a character, but try not to damn the person who wrote it to hell.
  4. ***NEW*** Since the site has been ported to a new site, all of the links for the characters on the wiki are going to be off. Some people (Toben, mainly) have gone and fixed links on the wiki, but there will be a lot of characters that will require some detective work to find where they are. We ask that you, as the intrepid time detectives that you are, please fix the links on the character's wiki page as you read them. This will help reduce the amount of work that will need to be done to help fix up older versions. If you're not as familiar with the wiki, ask a friendly staffer or wiki-inclined handler and people will gladly help you out!
  5. Feel free to cross-post your review of the character on their 'your thoughts' page on the wiki, too.
  6. If rolled a character and you are unable to write a critique within a month's time, you will forfeit the character and they will go back into the pool. This will prevent people from holding onto characters forever.
Helpful Links:

V4 Locations Page: This page is outdated but contains a list of each location and which thread is where. Please also fix this page if you can once you are finished! After the first few characters completed, this'll make it infinitely easier on everyone else.

All right! With that being said, let's get to the readin'! Reply, and I'll roll you a character using our friend rngesus and link you to their Wiki page. I'm reasonably certain we won't unleash any more froggy time criminals this time.

Reasonably sure. Maybe.

Ahh! The first four brave travelers who will step back into the time machine. Don't be afraid, you two are paving the path. Plus, you have Officer Rugga with you, who fought the V2 madness and lived to tell the tale; and Kermit, the probationary reformed time-criminal. You're in good hands, Espi and Jilly. Your away team is sound. Just watch that frog for telltale signs of the v22 madness.

And yes Kermit, it is part of your time police probation.

Espi: Sarah Atwell
Jilly: Joshua Krakowski
Ruggahissy: Meredith Hemmings
Kermit: Rhory Anne Broderick

Blast, Rattle. Welcome to RAT central command. We've already sent the first away team back to v4, and they'll be happy to have the reinforcements. Be strong, be brave, and be courageous. I know you both have it in you.

Your assignments are as follows.

Rattlesnake: George Leidman
Blastinus: Samaya Boen-Hilstrand

You two might want to split up once you get down there. I'm not sure if there are consequences to encountering your past self or not, and Rattle, it looks like you'll be seeing a young Blast in action.

Good luck!

Ahhh, Zee. You need no instruction from me. You are, after all - the keeper of the lore. The away teams will benefit from your knowledge and wisdom. Be careful down there; the past can be a scary place. I hope your assignment is - pardon the pun - a blessing in disguise.

backlash: Daniel Blessing

Good luck.

Ahh, Mara. Glad to see that you're chipping in. I know how eager you were to join the others back in the past. Just be sure not to step on any collars they've left laying around. Evidently they were a lot more... explosive back then.

Maraoone: Edward Belmont

I'm not going to lie. He sounds like a vampire. Maybe I'm just biased. I don't think v4 had vampires. Best you make sure you're armed as you enter the time machine.
