V8 Student Government and Team/Club Positions
Posted: Fri Oct 01, 2021 1:52 am
Hey everyone! It's that time again: we're now accepting nominations for student government, team, and club positions. The nomination thread where handlers can enter their characters for team and club leadership can be found here. At the end of this time, any uncontested positions will be awarded. Any contested positions will go to votes, each having its own thread. Voting will not be anonymous. Handlers will be allowed to vote for each position/team in which they have an approved or submitted but not yet approved character participating. You may NOT vote for teams or clubs that you do not have an approved or submitted character participating in. You may NOT vote on behalf of characters that have been abandoned or forfeited. Nominations only apply to official school teams and clubs, not outside activities.
We will not be allowing characters to hold more than three offices, and will not be allowing characters to be nominated for more than five positions apiece. We ask that you consider carefully what positions your character would realistically hold time and interest to pursue, and that you avoid nominating them simply to fill spaces. You may nominate characters who are already approved, or who are in the submission queue during the nomination time period. However, should an unapproved character win a position and then be withdrawn or time out of the approval process, their title will default to the runner-up if applicable. This is to allow handlers to nominate characters who are still in the drafting stages while discouraging them from doing so if they are not sure they can follow through on the character.
In the event of a tie in voting for any position, that position will be awarded to the character who holds fewer other positions. In the event that it is still tied, it will go to whoever was nominated for fewer positions, to encourage handlers to nominate characters only for positions that are meaningful to them. In the event that the voting is still tied, the position will be awarded via rolls.
Any positions that are not filled in this fashion will be considered open. Open positions may be claimed by any handler when submitting a new or revised character, on a first come first serve basis (for example, if no captain for the girls' basketball team was nominated prior to the voting period, any handler could submit a character and state that she was the captain of the team, and after that character's approval the position would be considered filled). Any positions that are not filled at all can be assumed filled by NPCs, seniors who were not abducted, or students in lower grades, as appropriate.
As in previous versions, the elections for president and vice president will be handled slightly differently than other voting. At the end of the nomination period, we will start a thread for each election. In those threads, each candidate will be allowed to present a speech. The presidency and vice presidency will then be decided with in-character votes, with one vote per character. All handlers whose characters are giving speeches must have them submitted to staff before voting begins, so get them in to SOTF_Help before the nomination period ends. Characters may not run for both president and vice president, or for either position if they are nominated for any other student council role. Characters running for any student council position besides president and vice president do not need to submit a speech. All president/vice president/cabinet nominees must be approved or in the queue as with other club and team positions.
New for V8, we will also be having a Homecoming Court! This works a little differently than the prom royalty in past pregames. There will be two stages of voting, one prior to the Winter Formal dance, and one during it. An in-depth explanation will be in the Homecoming Court nomination thread that will go up sometime in December.
The club and team nomination thread will be open until October 15. If you have any questions about the nomination and voting process, post them here in the thread. Otherwise, have at it!
