Posted: Sun Sep 11, 2022 6:26 pm
Name: Soo-mi "Shannon" Choi
Gender: Female
Age: 18
Grade: 12
School: John Endecott Memorial Academy
Hobbies and Interests: Memes and internet culture, electronic music, DJing, Magic: The Gathering, track, virtual YouTubers
Appearance: Shannon is 5'4" tall and weighs 120 pounds. She has an average frame, with toned legs from her time on the track team. Her straight black hair stops just short of her chin, with short straight bangs that are swept to the left. Her Korean heritage is evident in her facial features: her face is heart-shaped, with a pair of thin, brown eyes, a mousey nose, and full lips. She has two moles on her face: one near the corner of her left eye and another just below her right ear. She likes to wear hairclips on the right side of her hair, though is rather inconsistent on whether she'll bother from day to day.
Shannon doesn't really care too much for fashion; she doesn't really put too much effort into her clothing choices, and just tends to wear whatever is comfortable for her. Her wardrobe mainly consists of primary colors, and generally none of her clothing has any patterns. However, occasionally she does purchase a piece of clothing that has a meme or some other funny design on it. Shannon also almost always wears a pair of over-ear headphones, and they can be seen around her neck whenever she's not in class. On the day of the abduction, Shannon was wearing a blue t-shirt with a crudely drawn picture of a stick figure t-posing with the caption "JE SUS" written under it, over which she was wearing a red jacket. She was also wearing blue jeans and black running shoes with gray socks. As always, she had her headphones on her.
Biography: Shannon was born on April 3rd to Jae-sung "Eddie" Choi and Mi-rae "Theresa" Han. Shannon is the second child of the Choi family, with her older sister Soo-jung, English name "Carrie", being born seven years earlier. The Choi family lives a relatively comfortable life, with Eddie working as an auto repair mechanic, and Theresa working as a hotel receptionist on morning shifts. Shannon and Carrie were mostly cared for by their mother, but Shannon is close with both of her parents, as well as her sister.
Shannon's early elementary school life was marked by a desire to make other people laugh. She found that she was a lot more likely to laugh when someone else laughed, and found things funnier when she was laughing along with other people. To that end, Shannon became something of a class clown, thinking up jokes to make her classmates laugh. She mainly came up with and told these jokes during recess, but they would sometimes slip in during class, causing her teachers to scold her if they ever came up during inappropriate moments. Thankfully, she was rarely disciplined past this, as she was otherwise a well-behaved student.
Shannon was introduced to the Internet rather early on in her life; the family had a shared computer that was usable by all the members of the family. Shannon began to use this computer more and more often at around nine years old, usually supervised by her mother or Carrie. Her mother especially warned about the dangers of revealing your real identity online, and a young Shannon took those words to heart, making efforts to never tell anyone on the internet any information that could reveal her real identity.
It was through this that Shannon began to really get into internet culture, as well as electronic music. Shannon liked watching Let's Plays on YouTube. Even though Shannon didn't really play video games, she enjoyed watching other people play them, particularly the sometimes funny, sometimes informative commentary on these videos. One day, Shannon accidentally clicked a different recommended video to the one she meant to click, and was brought to a video showcasing an electronic song. The first second of the song captured her attention immediately, and Shannon elected to listen to the song the entire way through instead of backing out. She quickly fell in love with the song, and eventually others like it, awakening her love of electronic music.
During middle school, her parents encouraged her to take on an extracurricular activity. On a whim, Shannon chose track, as she considered herself athletic enough for it. While Shannon was never the type to actively participate in sports, she chose to try out for the track team anyway, just to see if she could. In the end, Shannon just barely managed to make the track team. She decided to stick with it, again on a whim, as she found the exercise and workout enjoyable, and it was the one thing that fueled a competitive streak she didn't know she had. Shannon would go on to try out for and be accepted into the track team in high school.
Shannon's sense of humor would evolve as internet culture did. Shannon began to really embrace certain communities of social media sites, especially Tumblr and Reddit. She would also join various communities on Discord when that was launched in 2015. This was also when Shannon got a new computer for her birthday. Now that she didn't have to share computer time with her family, she began to really get engrossed in internet culture as she spent more and more time on her computer. All of this is to say that Shannon's sense of humor came mainly from the internet and the communities that she'd become a part of, and as they changed and the cultures shifted, Shannon began to incorporate memes new and old into her internet vocabulary.
Meanwhile, as Shannon entered high school, she began to really get into the idea of creating things, rather than just consuming them. In particular, Shannon wanted to make something creative involving electronic music. She didn't particularly consider herself creative enough to make music, but she began to dabble in mixing other people's songs. This eventually grew into her love of DJing, as she began to learn more and more of the techniques used by DJs to make and play their mixes. She currently wants to get a DJ controller to get more seriously into mixing, but has not gotten around to asking her parents for one.
Around the summer of her sophomore year, one of Shannon's Discord friend groups began to discuss Magic: The Gathering more and more. At first, the game was a curiosity to Shannon, not one that she was interested in playing too much. However, as time passed, and the game became a larger and larger part of the friend group's conversations, she became more interested in the game. She started watching videos on YouTube about certain cards, top 10 lists on best or worst cards of a certain type, et cetera, and it was only a matter of time before Shannon became invested in the game and began to buy packs. Shannon mainly plays Commander, since it is the format that her friend group plays the most, though she does participate in draft tournaments at the local card shop every so often.
On September 2020, the virtual YouTuber agency Hololive debuted their first group of English vtubers. Although Shannon was not really aware of vtubers beyond knowing what they were in a general sense, some of her friends in various Discord servers were fans of Hololive in general, and there was much buzz among these groups when Hololive's English branch, Holomyth, was announced. It was through these friend groups that Shannon really began to get into them as well. She had tuned into other streamers every so often, but never really followed any of them. That changed when she started watching Hololive vtubers. Although Shannon is subscribed to every Holomyth member, and a few other Hololive members outside of that generation, the one she tunes into the most often is Amelia Watson, mainly because Shannon finds her the funniest.
Academically, Shannon is squarely average, getting B's almost across the board. Shannon is able to get really high grades if she applies herself, but the problem is she rarely does. She finds the rigid schedule of the classroom environment stuffy and boring, and at home she would rather be doing literally anything else. She tends to zone out in class, and usually procrastinates on homework. Shannon's best and favorite subject is math, but not by much. She enjoys the difficulty of figuring out problems with definitively right or wrong answers. Still, even in math she doesn't get above a letter grade above the other subjects.
Shannon is a carefree and easygoing girl with a wholesome attitude. She is friendly and loves to make people laugh, meaning that she's on reasonably good terms with a majority of her classmates. Still, some particular classmates may be put off by her cheery attitude, comedic personality, or lack of ambition. Shannon, for her part, doesn't seem to think too much on this, preferring to spend her energy on those who appreciate her company.
Shannon isn't too sure what she wants to do after high school. She hasn't really given it much thought, preferring to live in the moment. If pressed to give an answer, Shannon would probably say that she'd want to do something related to electronic music or content creation on YouTube. Aside from her DJing, though, she hasn't really made steps in either direction.
Advantages: Shannon is well-known around the school as being a friendly, carefree person, and this may help her gain allies easier. She has the stamina and speed from her time on the track team, which may help her escape from disadvantageous situations.
Disadvantages: Shannon's lack of ambition could translate to a lack of drive to do anything in the game. She has been so accustomed to living with a computer and Internet access that being thrust into a situation without either, especially the latter, could be detrimental to her mental well-being. Shannon's sense of humor may also come up at inopportune times, alienating potential allies.

Designated Weapon: Pickaroon
Conclusion: Well, a pickaroon sounds kind of like something made up? Sort of fun to say, isn't it? Pickaroon, pickaroon. Maybe she can turn that into a meme before her death ends up on a message board. - Abby Soto
