Hi there and welcome to my first Songtest! Am honored to get to hold one, so let's make this a blast!

For the theme, we are going to tackle the Unknown.





No, not these two. I am talking about the amount of songs that YOU have yet to hear.

How many different songs have you listened to in your life? 1000? A million? No idea?

I am pretty sure every handler participating in songtests had at least two dozens songs they never knew existed before they came up in a songtest. Sometimes you know a band, but not all of their songs. Sometimes you know a song, but nothing about the band. Sometimes you know all songs of your favorite band, but then they release a new album and you have to catch up. No matter how many songs you know, there is always more.

And for this songtest, I want you all to go out and explore this more.

The rule is simple: Every single song you have ever listened to in your life up until the moment you started reading this post are ineligible. Meaning you have to look for a new, unknown song to submit.

The methods you might use to find a new song are up to you. You can go search on YouTube. Listen to singers you have only heard of from third parties. Ask your annoying neighbour what they think. It's up to you.

Note that I have no way of verifying if you really have never listened to the songs you submit. Therefore, this songtest is running on trust.

[+] The usual rules

• You may submit your song by sending them over Discord or this very forum. I will confirm whenever I receive a song. If I don't reply, that means I have yet to notice.
• You may not submit songs already used in a previous songtest.
• As said before, it has to be a song you never listened to before this songtest started. "Listened to" means that you listened to the song in its entirety. If you knew about the song's existence but haven't heard it or only heard a few tidbits in a trailer, that's fine.
• Unless there are a lot of entries, we will do one round.
• Once the songlist is up, you will have to listen to every song and send me your ranking. Not doing so will result in your disqualification.
• To rank the songs, you send me a list of your Top 10 from first to second place. First place gets 12 points, second gets 10, third gets 8 and from then on its always one point less.
• If a song is longer than 10 minutes, you only have to listen to the first 10 minutes. The rest is optional.
• If I forgot anything, I might add mor rules later.

Since looking for a new, unkown song will take more time than deciding on a song you already know, I give you all about three weeks to submit songs. The deadline is the 1st of August.

Ladies and Gentlemen, it is time for the songs.

Over the past weeks, 13 brave handlers delved deep into the unknown parts of the music world. Or at least that were the ones who came back from the expedition alive. Our prayers to those who delved too deep.

To keep in line with the theme, I decided to write weird descriptions instead of writing out the names and bands. So take yet another step and find out what lies behind the following links:

Last place goes to Doopees - Now That You've Gone, submitted by Pan!

It got 32 points in total.

[+] 12th Place

Second-to-last is Radical Face - Mathematics, submitted by Aeroknot!

It got 36 points in total, among them two 8's.

Narrowly missing the Top 10 is Sam Wilkinson - When The Sun Shines, submitted by Carlisle!

It got 39 points, among which were one 8 and one 10.

As you can see, the lower places were all really close, which shows how overall high-quality the submitted songs are!

It got 41 points, among which was one 8.

We enter single digits with Vundabar - Alien Blues, submitted by DeBlod!

It got 53 points, among which were one 10 and the first 12.

Laurels submitted Queen Bee - 01(ZERO ICHI)!

It got 56 points, among them one 8 and one 10.

Lucky number seven goes to my own submitted song: Good Hangs - I Can't Make Friends (Like I Used To)!

It got 59 points in total, among them two 10's and one 12.

The upper half of the Top 10 is made up by Childish Gambino - Feels Like Summer, submitted by Slam!

It got 62 points, among them two 8's and one 10.

The top 5 kick off with Justice - One Night/All Night, submitted by Fiori!

It got 64 points, among them one 8, one 10 and two 12's!

The next two places were especially close due to getting the exact same number of points. Thus, the number of 8's, 10's and 12's ended up being the deciding factor!

Missing the podium is Sarah Kinsley - Lovegod, submitted by Finch!

It got 69 points, among them two 8's, one 10 and one 12.

[+] 3rd Place

Slightly better fared Royal & the Serpent - Overwhelmed, submitted by Polybius!

It too got a total of 69 points, but won the direct confrontation thanks to getting three 8's and two 12's.

[+] AND THE WINNER IS

Lene Lovich - It's You, Only You (Mein Schmerz)!

Despite many places being only a few points to each other and two songs even having the same number of points, our first place managed a runaway victory with whooping 95 points, among them two 10's and four 12's!

In comparison, our runner-up, NERVOUS SYSTEM, got 79 points, among them three 10's and two 12's.

Thus the right to hold the next SongTest goes to Grand Moff Hissa.
