Jennifer Farrow

Post by PlatFleece »

Name: Jennifer Farrow
Gender: Female
Age: 18
Grade: 12th
School: John Endecott Memorial Academy
Hobbies and Interests: Basketball, Competitive Gaming, Reading

Appearance: Jennifer is 5'6" tall and weighs 150 pounds. She has long wavy brown hair, which she often keeps tied in a ponytail. She has brown eyes and is fair-skinned. She has prominent cheekbones, a sharp nose, thin lips, and a soft chin. She has no piercings and does not normally wear makeup unless she is going to a formal event. Due to her frequent training sessions, her body is also athletically built for an average high school girl. She often wears either sportswear or letter jackets that match the school team colors. On special occasions, she wears official team clothes that display the team logo.

On the day of the abduction, Jennifer was wearing a blue T-shirt decorated with the school team's logo, a white jacket, blue jeans, and red and white sneakers.

Biography: Jennifer Farrow was born to Andrew and Rosalia Farrow. Her father was an elementary school basketball coach but retired when Jennifer was seven years old. Her mother is an elementary school teacher, teaching mathematics from fifth to sixth grade. Having worked at the same school, the two of them met, had a relationship for three years, and got married soon after.

Being raised by parents who both worked as schoolteachers, Jennifer was expected to perform and excel well in most of her subjects and was conditioned to this kind of behavior by her parents. Her mother would give her extra tasks and work that her teachers did not assign to her in order to better her knowledge compared to her peers, and her father would focus on her athletic studies, specifically basketball. As a result of this, Jennifer's test scores were consistently above average, and she was often considered to be a star player during her elementary school days.

Such competitive environments also had their fair share of troubles for Jennifer. She did not have a perfect record. When she made mistakes or failures, her parents would often punish her. These punishments often involved cutting off communication with friends, extra study time for failed subjects, and reduced recreational activities. As a result, there weren't many times in her elementary school years where Jennifer successfully cultivated a close circle of friends.

The pressure to perform well academically and athletically affected other areas in Jennifer's life as well. Jennifer has a record of being competitive at anything she tries to pursue, which led her to try out for multiple other sports throughout her academic career in middle school, although she has found that she achieves much more success in basketball.

When Jennifer didn't excel in something, she often preferred to make the quick decision to withdraw from the activity before committing to it. This made it so that Jennifer felt as though she is always under pressure to succeed, which resulted in her seeking out other outlets for her relaxation. Around her middle school years, Jennifer had been invited by several of her team members to join in their gaming circle. It is from here that Jennifer discovered her love of competitive gaming, where she can remain anonymous online without the fear of disappointing either her parents, her school, or her teammates in any serious way, while still enjoying the thrill of the competition. Particularly of interest to her are competitive team-based games, whether they be shooters or MOBAs, which was one of the first few games that her teammates introduced her to to relax in-between practice. While playing these games, Jennifer can exercise her own expectations of herself, without the pressure her parents give her, although she has trouble ignoring aggressive comments about her playstyle or other general toxic online behavior, especially when she does lose in a match.

Jennifer had also found herself enjoying reading novels, a pastime that she did not expect to show interest in. Of particular interest to her were more adventurous novels, as well as large, epic-scale genre fiction. Spending a few hours a day to read about the adventures that protagonists in fantasy and sci-fi series have and how they overcome overwhelming adversity unexpectedly filled Jennifer with both inspiration and relaxation. She had even felt herself enjoying the exploits of more devious antagonists in these series, often admiring how well-prepared their plans were. She also enjoyed picking apart the failures of the plans of both protagonists and antagonists in books, fancying herself in her father's shoes.

Although her father retired from coaching when she was fairly young, that didn't stop him from continuing to train Jennifer. As she was expected to be a star player by both of her parents, alongside her elementary school sporting experience, Jennifer had high expectations of herself as an athlete. When she joined the basketball team at John Endecott, she hoped that she would be able to become the one star player they needed to take the school basketball team higher in the ranks. Unfortunately for Jennifer, that turned out not to be the case.

Jennifer was no stranger to losing in her team games even before John Endecott. Often when this happened, her father would push her harder, saying that she had been slacking off, or not training very well. Because of this, Jennifer has developed a coping mechanism for the stress of performing at her best all the time. She does this by focusing herself on specific goals and pushing out anything else as distractions. For example, she may focus on making twenty free throws in one training session without missing a shot, and once she's done that, to practice doing it from multiple sides of the court. Doing this allows her to feel like she is making progress, and thus better prepared for her next challenge.

The status of the basketball team has been a source of contention for Jennifer, who expresses extreme confidence in her own abilities, but is conflicted by the team's poor performance and lack of change after Jennifer joined the team. This has caused extreme tension between her and her teammates, and frustration throughout her high school life. This, combined with the lack of socializing experience, has made Jennifer difficult to approach at times by her other classmates. That being said, Jennifer has shown deep respect to anyone who wishes to excel at their very best, and who is as competitive as her in this regard.

At school, she often juggles the need to keep her grades above the average score and her efforts at improving her basketball team's performance. She does not seek to socialize as often, except with people who happen to be related to her circles, such as schoolmates sharing a project, or members of the basketball team. She takes few breaks from these activities and normally unwinds at home or down at the local library, where she would spend time playing some video games or reading novels respectively. Even so, she still keeps up her studying and training in her home life, often to a degree that is more than should be necessary.

After graduation, Jennifer has expressed interest in applying for a sports scholarship, in the hopes that she can join a national college basketball team and start her career as a professional athlete.

Advantages: Jennifer's physical and competitive nature would lend herself well should she treat the need for survival as another form of competition, and her experiences of being pressured to the limit has given her ways to cope with high-stress environments, particularly her one-track mind focus into completing small but progressive tasks while pushing away any other distractions.
Disadvantages: Jennifer has very little experience socializing. She is known to have strained relationships with team members due to her insistence of pushing her own form of self-improvement on them. The lack of leisure time may also increase her stress levels, which in turn could push her too far both mentally and physically.

Hello Plat, I'll be taking a look at Jennifer today. She is DENIED, but you have a solid base here, so let's look at where you need to expand.

You note what colors Jennifer usually dresses in, but what type of clothes does she typically wear (Athleticwear, t-shirts and jeans, a little more nicely than one might expect, etc.)? Does she have any piercings or wear any jewelry? How about makeup?

As a formatting thing, let's break up this big paragraph right in the middle of the biography here. Each individual hobby on the list should have its own dedicated paragraph, unless the hobbies are intrinsically linked.

Right now, there's a bit of a timeline gap in Jennifer's life from early childhood to high school. This can be helped by noting exactly when she got into her various hobbies, and just a bit of detail on how she did in middle school.

I'd like more detail on how Jennifer successfully copes with high-pressure situations, since that's noted as an advantage (if it's via her hobbies, those probably won't be available to her on-island, so for it to be an advantage in that situation there needs to be something more to it). All your advantages and disadvantages should be covered in the biography.

Spelling/grammar:
Before her abduction, she often wears outfits that match the school team colors.
Go ahead and nix "Before her abduction" in here, since it makes the tense read weirdly.
Jennifer also has found herself enjoying reading novels, particularly more adventurous and large epic-scale genre fiction. A pastime she did not expect to show interest in.
The second part here is an incomplete sentence, so expand on that with something like "It was a pastime she did not expect to show interest in," or merge those sentences together.

That's all I've got for now, so post in here when you've made those edits, and I'll give Jennifer another look!
"Art enriches the community, Steve, no less than a pulsing fire hose, or a fireman beating down a blazing door. So what if we're drawing a nude man? So what if all we ever draw is a nude man, or the same nude man over and over in all sorts of provocative positions? Context, not content! Process, not subject! Don't be so gauche, Steve, it's beneath you."

Alright, we're nearly there. There's one small thing with the advantages and a little bit of grammar clean-up left, and then Jennifer will be good to go.

The explanation of Jennifer's methods of coping under pressure that you added to the bio is good, you just need to add an abridged version of that to the Advantages section (that is, explain in some detail there just what her coping methods are and how they'll help her on-island).

There's some tense-switching in a few passages that should be cleared up. Most parts of a profile should be in the past tense, except for things talking about the immediate present (ie, things ongoing in senior year).
When Jennifer does not excel in something, she often prefers to make the quick decision to withdraw from the activity before committing to it. This made it so that Jennifer feels as though she is always under pressure to succeed, which resulted in her seeking out other outlets for her relaxation.
"feels" > "felt", also put that first sentence in the past tense.
Jennifer also has found herself enjoying reading novels, a pastime that she did not expect to show interest in. Of particular interest to her are more adventurous novels, as well as large, epic-scale genre fiction. Spending a few hours a day to read about the adventures that protagonists in fantasy and sci-fi series have and how they overcome overwhelming adversity unexpectedly filled Jennifer with both inspiration and relaxation. She has even felt herself enjoying the exploits of more devious antagonists in these series, often admiring how well-prepared their plans were. She also enjoys picking apart the failures of the plans of both protagonists and antagonists in books, fancying herself in her father's shoes.
Quoting this whole paragraph because we're moving back and forth between past and present here. Change the sentences in present to past.
Jennifer is no stranger to losing in her team games even before John Endecott. Often when this happens, her father would push her harder, saying that she had been slacking off, or not training very well.
"is" > "was", "happens" > "happened"

That should be it, so once you make those edits, Jennifer should be ready for approval!
