This Holy Place Is Really Unholy
((Aion Rhodes continued from My Refuge and My Fortress))
Aion was pretty much sleeping like an unaware baby. He was resting on one of the pews beside Amos and his head was resting against the guy’s arm. He was completely lost in a dream world and he was normally not a dreamer. He wasn’t even sure what it was all about. Maybe it was more like a nightmare.
All that he could see was a trail of blood in a snowy landscape. Yep, it was definitely supposed to be a nightmare, but he was strangely completely calm and unfeeling. No, it was more like his whole body was numb and frozen. It felt like he was an ice statue in a hellish world.
He could hear a lot of whispers in the cold, windy air as he felt some snow droplets hitting his face and they just melted away so quickly. He felt a need to follow the blood. He didn’t know why he felt the need to, but it felt like something was pulling him forward without his consent. Was it his own mind that was forcing him to confront whatever it was?
His heartbeat was starting to beat more rapidly. Like it knew what it was going to find and he wanted to stop moving forward. But his feet were on auto-pilot and the crunching of the snow under his shoes were making his stomach start to do uneasy flip-flops.
The trail of blood was starting to look bigger now and he was sure that he could see a body that was half-buried under the white-red snow. He couldn’t see who it was as their back was facing him and he did recognize the clothes. He didn’t want to believe that it was who he thought it was and he stepped closer towards the battered corpse.
His heart felt like it was trying to scream at him not to touch it.
But like the stubborn asshole that he was, he reached out to touch the corpse’s shoulder and he turned the body slowly onto its side so that he could see the face. He felt like he was almost struggling to breathe himself.

Aion’s body jolted when he heard someone moving in the church and he slightly opened his eyes, feeling his heart racing in paranoia.

"You ok buddy?" Amos himself felt the jolt as his travel buddy woke up. His head was on his arm, so it was hard not to notice. He could not hide the concern in his voice as he asked in a hushed voice.
Amos had gotten some sleep through the night, but not as much as he had hoped. Something about their new arrival had crept into his brain, and given him the worms. He preoccupied himself with keeping an eye out, reasoning someone had to ensure they would be safe through the night.
He reached up with his right hand and felt the bags underneath his eyes with his fingertips. He blinked a few times as his hand went back down.

Aion hadn't realized for a few seconds that his hand had gripped onto Amos' arm when he woke up and he didn't want to let him go for a while. How could he even tell him about that creepy dream? It wasn't something that he would normally want to remember. Well, he didn't want to think about it at all. God, he wanted to be anywhere else but here. He wished that he didn't feel so useless and cowardly.
"God, the fuck...?" He was still holding onto Amos' arm and he didn't realized just how scared he was really feeling. "I had a weird nightmare. I don't normally dream about messed-up shit, but..."
He wasn't paying attention to Adam anymore. All he could do was look right at Amos and then he sighed softly, feeling unsure about how he wanted to tell him.
"I found you dead in the snow. It terrified me honestly. I didn't even get a chance to really do anything before I woke up." He felt himself looking away from Amos, feeling embarrassed to talk about it. He wasn't the best with his words in an emotional way. He felt a bit silly for getting attached to a guy that he stayed with for a few days, but... "I don't even want to think about it. I hate how powerless I am right now. I wished that I could do more, but all of this is too overwhelming. I just want to talk about normal shit and just fuck around. Not all of this murder and dying for no reason. Ugh...."
He still hadn't let Amos' arm go as it felt like a strange comfort to him.

"Me, huh," Amos murmured. He wasn't sure how to answer that. Would it be a lie to tell him to be confident that he wouldn't see him like that? That, that would not happen?
He kept quiet as Aion continued, slowly closing and opening his eyes. He had no idea what the other guy they had allowed in here was doing, and for now, he was not too concerned, a bit preoccupied with his buddy dealing with something fierce.
Amos hasn't been as festered with nightmares since this started. Sure, for him, it was more like he couldn't sleep at all after a certain point of the night. But he wouldn't begrudge Aion for being shaken after that. They were not meant for this kind of shit.
"I feel ya, man. Things have been so messed up lately."
Amos barely suppressed a yawn. The right side of his right eye felt wet, and he kept blinking and keeping it shut, alternating between the two. His left was squinting at his surroundings.
"Would it help if I said something that's like I have no plans of ending up like that?"
Aion was holding onto his arm. Amos said and did nothing about it; it was a bit of a comfort, really. Aion had been his travel buddy since day one, and part of it had been Amos taking care of the guy. It was nice.

Aion couldn't help but let out a small scoff and then he was trying to keep himself awake, trying to not nod off for no reason. He really could bare to lose someone that he got attached to so quickly and all he could think about was his dead brother for a brief moment. He took a sharp inhale of air and then he exhaled out of his mouth slowly, trying to keep himself calm and to not start freaking out.
"Hah. Are you telling me that you are going to go Die Hard or John Wick on people if they tried to mess with you?" He was trying to make a light joke and he actually smirked a little. "That'll be pretty badass, not going lie."
He then let out a small huff.
"Mannn, fuck all this shit. I really wish that I could be lazing around in my room or fixing one of my neighbour's cars right now." He then paused on saying what he wanted to do and then he glanced at Amos thoughtfully. "...What would you rather be doing right now?"
He was feeling a bit too relaxed and safe. But he didn't really care at that moment.

Amos chuckled at that remark. He could not picture himself going full John Wick on anybody. Not back home, let alone at that moment.
"If I tried that, I'd hope you'd pull me back from getting my ass kicked."
Amos did not know how to describe it, but there was a sense of warmth during their conversation. They were safe with each other in this church, talking about stuff. Better off than most of their classmates.
But a part of it was Aion's genuine worry about him. Guess it was nice to know that someone around here would feel bad if Amos went.
He was quiet for a bit when Aion asked him. He had not thought over it that much. The worry of everything over the past few days had overshadowed most things on his mind; that and the plan they were supposed to be doing. Given a brief time, he had his answer.
"Camp with some folks away from the noise and see some stuff out in the wild, explore a bit, maybe some chess on the side."
"Always found that kind of stuff relaxing."

Adam had been awake for a while and every now and then throughout the night, like when he had held his pole against a sleeping Aion's head wondering if he should just make it quick and help with that injury of his in his own way. At another point, he had aimed it at Amos, briefly and carefully from his sitting position, but quickly retreated and slumped on his back on the pew.
Now it was hours later and he was walking around the church, looking for the way up to the bell tower specifically as a point of interest. He was walking normally but whenever he thought he had a pair of eyes on him he was back to a slight limp.
Hearing that Amos and Aion were both awake, his attention went back to them immediately.
“Flirting this early in the day?" The smile on his face looked more playful than the day before. "I don’t know if God would want that but may he bless you guys.”

Aion felt himself smiling a bit more as he thought about Amos being on a camping trip and just looking around at the nature. Just enjoying the silence and peace. Aion wished that he could do something like that, it would have helped with the anger issues that he still had and then well, he could just hang out with his family or friends or even Amos. He never thought that he would want to get close to anyone on the island. He thought that he was going to bail after his talk with Daniel before he got attacked by that plate. But... Amos stayed. He always wanted to ask why, but felt like in a way, he knew why Amos might have stayed, even if Aion did complain a bit about things.
"Man, that camping trip sounds like it would be a fucking amazing thing to experience. I think-"
He suddenly got distracted by Adam speaking up about him and Amos flirting and Aion felt his face getting a bit flustered, feeling himself laugh awkwardly.
"Pffft. Flirting...? Why would I be flirting with Amos right now? Hahaha... H-Hah." He asked, almost feeling himself stutter and he felt like he was caught in the act. "If I wanted to kiss in the church, I am pretty sure that God would not have the power to stop me from doing whatever the hell I pleased."
He let out a small huff and he noticed that he was still cuddled up against Amos side, feeling a bit embarrassed now. He wondered what Amos was thinking and he hoped to god that he wasn't being an idiot about things. Liking someone in a death game was definitely the worst thing that he would do right now. Well, besides murdering people obviously.

Amos leaned his head back into the pew. It was a nice moment to relax and close his eyes. They were doing good here; it was a great conversation. It was like they weren't out there to do stuff to each other but just to be.
It was a good distraction from it all; till it was interrupted.
Adam was still around. The conversation between Amos and Aion had kept him out of his mind for a bit, but he crept back in. He had a smile on his face, one that Amos was not too keen on. The boy had stayed the night, and no one else had shown up to cause problems. But that was only a slight upside to the whole thing.
Amos' face reddened a bit at the mention of flirting, and he looked away and admired the texture on the wall over there. Aion was still resting on his arm, but he did not move it. Amos did not mind the whole thing, but when Adam brought attention to it, he was not sure how to take things or what to say.

“Hm. Is that so?”
The skin around Adam’s eyes tensed as if brewing up equations as he watched them. Out of the corner of his eyes, it looked like the light was liquid. He thought it had shaped itself into figures that stood watching with still, dicey attention — but when he looked, they were gone.
“I wonder.”
He was standing closer to them now and suddenly cupped Aion’s face with a swift but careful motion, pressing his lips against Aion's.

Aion hadn't suspected to be caught off-guard by such a sudden kiss like that and his mind went into a webbed mess of a confused spider who has lost his victim of flies. He almost felt like Adam's tongue was lightly touching against his own slightly, dry lips and he felt a startled noise coming out of his mouth. He felt himself trying to jerk his head back from Adam's hands that were holding him against his willing and he felt himself letting go of Amos' arm.
"Nrgh?!"
He moved his hands up to Adam's cold hands and he grabbed onto them, trying to pull them away from his flustered face. He could feel himself breathing more rapidly when his lips were free from Adam's ones and he felt himself growling up at him in annoyance. He also felt embarrassed over that happening in front of Amos.
"What... What the fuck did you do that for?!" He was stuttering in confused anger and he was still holding onto Adam's hands, trembling a little. "That...T-That was uncalled for, you dick!"

Things were chill and fine for one moment, and then, suddenly, one of them is getting frenched against their will, and Amos just sat there for it.
Amos stared with bulging eyes and mouth agape at this sudden display to his side. Face red as can be. Aion had let go of his arm and was trying to push off his would-be kisser.
What the fuck was going on?
Amos blinked a few times as he processed what happened as Aion got more flustered. Aion didn't want this, that was clear as day, and Amos could not push away this annoyance at the display from Adam.
He stood up, hands at his sides forming fists. His face stayed red, but now for a different reason.
"You heard him."
Amos' eyes narrowed; he was fully awake now as he glared at Adam.
"Back off."

Adam's eyes glinted in a very pleased manner, his teeth gently gritted together.
While he took a small step back, he drew a cross over his chest, his confident movements hiding uncertainty and the ever so slightly tremor he felt going through his body. He was pretty sure he had done it the wrong way, but he didn't care. It wasn't about that.
He shrugged.
Adam cleared his throat with a huff, looking down at Aion thoughtfully before he spoke up again.
"Well, I just wanted to see how you'd react," he said. "You seemed rather frightened."
A little push here, a little shove there. Adam wanted to be smart about his own moves but felt himself wondering about all the waging on the possibilities of uncertainties, shuffling on the probabilities of uncertainties, waiting for the occurrences.
“What, are you scared? Or maybe jealous?" He asked Amos. "Both? I can give you a kiss too, if you want. Though, you might prefer one from Aion. He started it after all. Aren't we friends? Punch me and let it out of your system."
Maybe he was relying on his list too much. Adam knew that Amos didn't have anything on hand besides his ready fists if he wanted to try anything. Aion though should be bearing some type of sharp claws somewhere in his belongings. But of course he couldn't know of any changes, which, as he found, made the list more useless as the days went on.

Aion felt himself getting a bit embarrassed over Amos standing up for him. Normally he liked to handle messy situations by himself, but he actually appreciated that Amos was reacting and there was no way that he could open up about that. His heart was racing with a small thump-thump-thump. He almost felt like he was on a bright light of heavenly air.
"God, this...." He touched at the side of his head lightly, being careful to not touch his bandage and disturbing his injury. "Let's not fight."
He glanced up at Adam and then he thought of something when Adam seemed a bit.... off.
"Look, I might have a crush on Amos, but that doesn't give you the right to take advantage of me in a distressed state, Adam." He said, feeling himself trying not to look at Amos as he pretty much confessed. Hah. Confessing in a church.... How ironic. "If you like me, Adam.... You could have just told me. God knows why the fuck you would even be into a crappy person like me..."
He let out a bitter laugh.
"Might be because pink and purple work well together." He mumbled softly. "Also, hell no. I won't let you kiss Amos. ...Unless he consents to it."
Aion groaned softly in frustration and he buried his face into his hands. What the hell was he doing?!
"...Your kiss wasn't too bad, Adam. Just don't jumpscare me like that again, you asshat...!"

What the fuck was going on?
Amos stood there, keeping his eyes on Adam and his damn smile; he stood across from him, talking up some bull, making remarks to needle more than anything; it was the same with the stuff he did, drawing a cross, shrugging, that smile.
Everything.
Amos' hands curled into fists, but he had to keep a cool head; it was difficult as his face was heating up, but for a different reason as Aion, well, basically confessed about liking him. Amos did not know how to respond to that or know what to think.
It was flattering, really, but when did it start? Here? During their walk? Before? How was he to respond? He did not mind, but right now? In the middle of this?
And what was that about not being worth it or something like that?
"Aion..."
He had to focus. Amos would have to talk to Aion about that, but this shit in front was busy egging him on, trying for something. Amos slowed his breathing and opened his hands; they shook in place, so Amos shoved them into his pockets. He swallowed and said to Adam:
"Look, just back off from him."
"And don't say stuff like that, Aion. About being crappy and whatever. You ain't, Ok?"
