This is pretty goddamn late but hey, better late than never. Hello, hi, aloha, whatever. Today I have four kids that I wanna share with you and see if they’d gel well with your guys. Or if they won’t. Both are fun!
fucking threading the needle here Jesus Christ
Michael Goldstein comes from a family with a long history of serving in the Armed Forces, with his parents being veterans and his brother actively serving in the Army. Naturally, the expectation is that he’ll follow suit and sign up. The issue is that Michael doesn’t want to join the Army and instead wants to go to medical school, which has led to some tension with his family. Probably spends a lot of time outside the house doing stuff as a result.
This stuff includes baseball - Michael playing as a shortstop for Red Rock’s team, and being a fan of the Aviators otherwise - volunteering at the care home where his grandfather lives, and running. He’s an average player on the team, a few good plays here and there but nothing truly special. In his first year, Michael was in JROTC, but quit in favour of playing baseball. He is also a practising Conservative Jew alongside his family, generally going to synagogue for religious holidays.
In school, he’s a top student, as he needs to be in order to get the grades for medical school. His favourite subject is Science, as it’s the most relevant to the career path he wants to choose, although PE comes in as a close second. Socially, he’s just… kind of there, I guess. Not a social butterfly with a hundred friends but not a complete loner. There’s probably a better term for that. Sticks with baseball friends and fellow good students. Has a bit of a stubborn streak. Probably a generic lib, and has occasionally argued about this.
What am I looking for?
Friends - He runs, he does community service, he plays baseball. He probably has a bunch of friends from that, but I’m always up for ideas. Maybe you also like the Aviators or something.
Enemies - To be honest, I dunno if Michael is the kind of guy who has enemies, but I’m up for ideas. Maybe someone he’s argued with about politics, maybe you just don’t like how generally inoffensive he is, who knows?
Girlfriend - Now, I think I remember talking to Salic about one of his characters dating Michael a while ago but I’ll have to check and see if that’s still a thing. Just putting this out there in case that girl’s scrapped or doesn’t fit with the vibe anymore.
Ryumi Nakanowatari is the god-forsaken Mahjong player. Born into a Japanese-American family that values spending time with each other, Ryumi has always had an appreciation for board games and the like, things that you can do while vibing with each other. Her mom and dad run a small restaurant near the Strip, aimed more at residents than the many tourists to Vegas, and so she’s grown up helping out whenever she can alongside her siblings. (tbd how many there are, probably 2-3?) Her post-high school plans are kind of fuzzy.
One of Ryumi’s hobbies is board games, with a preference for Riichi mahjong because she’s good at it and can flex on people who aren’t, so she’s definitely a member of the board game club. Generally though, she just likes spending time with her friends, and is up to try anything they suggest as long as she can chat with them and just enjoy the energy. Maaaybe a partier, but I dunno if it fits her vibe. Maybe she’s been to a couple. Ryumi is probably a Swiftie and has dragged her friends to karaoke a few times, which is also something she likes. Overall just one of those really energetic people who you see doing all kinds of shit.
Ryumi’s likely an average student; not top marks, not failing or borderline fading, just sorta in the middle, which her parents probably get on her case for sometimes. Her favourite class is Drama/whatever it’s called in America, because she gets to ham it up a little and pretend that she’s someone else for a bit. She’s one of those people that everyone is at least kinda familiar with, whether through actually talking to her or just having a reputation as friendly.
What am I looking for?
Friends - Ryumi has probably interacted with most people in the year at least once, so she’s probably made some friends through that. The board game club has also helped her make friends.
Enemies - There’s probably a couple. Maybe you think she’s annoying. Maybe you don’t like short people. Gimme your ideas!
Exes/hookups - Ryumi is bi, and has dated/hooked up with a few people before, so if you think she might have clicked with one of your guys/gals, shoot your shot.
Bradley Hackett started out as a self-insert but has diverged a lot. Born several months premature, he had a few health issues; the most important being an imperforate anus, which was ‘fixed’ with a colostomy bag. Intended to be a temporary fix, it was made permanent. His parents work generic middle-class jobs, accountants or something generically middle class. He’ll likely not be going to the island.
Due to worries about Bradley possibly injuring himself or damaging his stoma (who he affectionately calls Helen), he tries not to exert himself too much, which has led to a bit of a sedentary lifestyle - although he’s making an effort to go to the gym and try and correct that. Other hobbies include baking, gaming and watching horror movies - being a member of the horror club, where he can shit on or defend the movies they watch. Generally spends a lot of time online, and has an online girlfriend who he’s been talking to for a few years.
Being a certified nerd, Bradley does pretty well in school - his favourite subject is History as he finds old stuff like that cool, but also likes science - he has a particular interest in volcanoes, which is why his stoma is named after Mount St. Helens, and he wants to work in that field in the future. Socially, Bradley keeps to himself. Outside of the horror club, some friends he’s picked up in group work and maybe just a couple of people he’s bumped into, he’s happy with his own company.
What am I looking for?
Friends - Bradley is not a very sociable guy, being an introvert and shy (he is a self insert after all) but he has picked up some friends and general acquaintances through horror club and group work. I dunno, maybe your kid just thinks he’s neat.
Whatever - This goes for everyone else, but generally if you have an idea just throw it at me. Bradley, for being a pseudo self-insert, is a bit fuzzy when it comes to relationships so I’m especially open for anything.
Louay Al-Dabbaq had a curious path to America. Born to a doctor and his wife in Syria, his family escaped Idlib during the peak of the Syrian Civil War, fleeing to a refugee camp in Turkey and then being resettled in Las Vegas, where they have made a new home for themselves while pining for what they have lost and handling the trauma of escaping a brutal civil war.
One of the things that helped Louay settle into America was football - back home, he was a fan of Real Madrid, and played soccer with the hopes of going pro. In America, he joined a peewee league under a faulty assumption of what ‘football’ was, but found he took to the role of a punter quite well. He now follows the Las Vegas Raiders in addition to Real Madrid, and his family go to games a couple of times a year. On Red Rock’s team, he plays the team’s punter and excels at this job, having broken several school records.
His family are Muslim, although the events of his life have left Louay privately questioning the existence of a higher power. A couple of times a month, he sees a therapist, a vestige of when they had just moved to America and Louay was struggling with trauma from what he had seen in the refugee camp and while fleeing Syria. It still occasionally pops up, but he makes an active effort to filter things that could trigger him out of his life.
In school, Louay is an average student, with no real favourite class. His friends group largely revolves around the Red Rock football team, the Raiders and Real Madrid, with these being the main three things he does, but he probably also plays Madden with people sometimes. With his punting skills, Louay hopes to make it to a college football team and has begun to create a highlights clip of his time punting. After discovering this skill, he has considered a career in video editing if things don’t work out in football.
What am I looking for?
Friends - Louay has a bunch of friends. He’s an excellent punter and has helped the team win a few games, so people probably like him if they care about the school’s football program. Outside of that, he’s friendly enough. If you like the Raiders he’s probably talked to you a couple of times.
Enemies - Maybe you actually fucking hate the Raiders, in which case fair play. Maybe you’re mad about that one time he muffed a punt and it got returned for a touchdown. Maybe you just think football’s stupid. Either way, I welcome enemies. Go yell at him that he sucks
Crushes - I’m not sure if Louay is actually looking for anyone right now, but he’s a good football player and he’s good looking there are probably a couple of girls crushing on him
