Survival Of The Fittest

I have created two characters (I may add more) but I am currently trying to find relationships for each character.

See if your characters could fit with mine and I would be completely fine with some critique:

[+] Thomas Shaw - The Nerd

This guy is just a self-insert of me

Name: Thomas Shaw

Grade: 12th grade/Senior
School: Southwest Red Rock High School
Hobbies and Interests: Loves filmmaking, watching movies, playing video games, playing TTRPGs, 60s, 70s, and 80s music, and reading. He aspires to be a director one day.

Relationships: People who share his love for films, video games, TTRPGs, music, and reading. There can be bullies who have tried to mess with him, but keep in mind that Thomas is OK with snitching on people.

Appearance: Thomas has a distinctive appearance that gives him a bit of an unassuming, nerdy look, which he fully embraces. Standing at 5'11" and weighing 142 pounds, he's very skinny, with a lanky frame. He has bi-racial parents, which blends his features between Filipino and Caucasian, giving him very light brown skin. Other than his skin, his other physical features lean more toward his Caucasian side. He has a long, narrow face with sharp angles, giving him an almost angular look, and his light-brown skin tone adds to his unique appearance. His hair is short but messy, sticking out in every direction in a chaotic, unkempt way as if he’s perpetually in need of a comb. The black hair contrasts with his brown eyes, which are framed by his signature glasses. His glasses are rectangular with curved edges, being held together by only the nose piece and earpieces, with no visible frame. Thomas’s daily outfit doesn’t change much. He wears the same pair of worn denim pants and a black puffy jacket every day, leaving the jacket zipped when it's cold and either unzipped or tied around his waist when it's hot. The one thing that changes is his T-shirt, which often features movie references or is simply a solid color. On his right wrist, he wears a small digital pedometer, which shows the time and how many steps he's taken. Around his neck hangs a rosary.

Biography: Thomas was born on November 23rd, 2006 in Las Vegas to his parents Kevin and Emily. Although his family was middle class, his parents made sure to be very careful with their money, allowing his family to live quite comfortably, and Thomas to never have to worry about anything. However, thanks to his parents' strict discipline, his family ensured he would not grow up to think he was better than everyone else. He was soon joined by two sisters, Sara two years younger, and Anne, eleven years younger than him, and was diagnosed with Down syndrome.

He spent the next 17 years living what some could call a perfect life. He always had straight As (albeit some being very low As), never had any major problems, went very well with his family, and had a good chunk of friends. This was showcased in elementary, middle school, and high school. Not much major stuff can be said during this time since it was always the same. When the pandemic happened, he was still doing quite well. The only real problem was that he grew up with the life of a nerd, leading him to not be very fit. He loves video games but can only play for an hour a day, reads all the time, and loves watching films. If it wasn’t for his decision to ride a bike to school every day, he would be extremely weak. Fortunately, his biking had helped him immensely, and he made sure to take a run around his neighborhood once a month. It has only really worked with his endurance and not much with his upper body. He always dreamed about a life of adventure, causing him to settle with wanting to become a director. He only chose to go to Red Rock High School because he was zoned for it, failing to get accepted to his dream school Las Vegas Academy.

Because he aspired to make films and his friends, he began to learn about SOTF. His family would make sure Thomas and his sisters didn’t watch it, so he discovered the SOTF when he was 12, thinking it was a fake reality show, beginning with V7 and going back to each version, learning as much as possible. He would develop a morbid curiosity, watching as much as he could until his parents discovered and were forced to tell him what was truly happening. He would stop watching it, but he became fascinated by SOTF and would spend long periods of time wondering how he would do if dropped in SOTF. He came up with some general ideas, but never really developed a true plan.

As mentioned before, he has a good group of friends, and most come from the clubs he is a part of. The others come from classes he is in. A main draw to him is his mind. He will think very hard about things that he cares about (which are usually just fun thought experiments) and very little about things he doesn’t. This can make him seem not very observant. This works out for him as it gives him plenty of things to talk about with his friends.

Overall, Thomas is a pleasant guy to be around and has a mostly calm personality, unless something he cares about goes wrong in a way he can’t fix. He attributes his calm personality to attending Catholic mass every week and doing a rosary daily, a part of him that his friends do not know much about. His overall mindset is that if something goes wrong, it can easily be fixed in the future. For his age he is very mature, having never smoked or drank any alcohol. He spends his time with friends cracking jokes and having conversations about stupid things. During his time in high school, he has made a total of five personal films, all of them being surprisingly good.

Advantages: He's intelligent, thoughtful, and skilled in conversation. He can handle situations as long as he’s thought about it before or if he has had plenty of time to deliberate. Though not particularly strong, his daily runs and bike rides to school have given him impressive speed and endurance, allowing him to keep going while others oo. Socially, he may not be the most charismatic, but he is a great listener and can usually keep a cool head. His extended thoughts about survival on SOTF could be an advantage if he can use it in the situation.
Disadvantages: Despite his active lifestyle, his physical strength would be lacking in any situation using his upper body. He's also a narrow thinker, often fixating on one or two problems until they are resolved, which makes him struggle with quick, split-second decisions unless he's considered them beforehand. Plus, he will fixate on what he deems important and never look into things he has no idea to look for, making him seem unobservant on different matters. Furthermore, he has never had a serious injury, meaning it will be difficult to recover if he gets seriously hurt.

[+] Chester Mullivan - The Kindhearted Athlete

Name: Chester Mullivan

Hobbies and Interests: Football player, reader, and part-time guitar player who loves playing 50s, 60s, and 70s songs.


Appearance: Chester stands at 6’1’’ and weighs 187 pounds, with a solid, athletic build where he often wears skin-tight shirts that hug his muscles, highlighting his toned chest and arms, paired with baggy jeans that give him a cool look without trying to hard. His blonde hair is styled in a bold Pompadour, a high-volume look that adds height to his frame and makes him seem like an old-school rock-n-roller. He has a strong, chiseled jawline, sharp cheekbones, and an angular nose that goes straight down. His dark black eyes are often hidden behind a pair of sleek sunglasses. He’s rarely seen without his guitar, which he carries with him all the time.

Relationships: He is good friends with most people who are involved in sports, having three main groups of best friends, acquaintances, or those he has grudges against. These people are those he has had outbursts before (like the person who he fought during sophomore year).


Biography: Chester was born on December 29th, 2006, the only child to his parents Andrew and Jill. He began his aspirations of playing football back in 1st grade and played quite well. He spent all of elementary school, middle school, and high school working on his fitness, and it shows. He has been able to do this by doing his exercise routine each morning. This includes 50 pushups, 50 sit-ups, and running a lap around the neighborhood.

Despite having the look of an intimidating bully, his personality is surprisingly compassionate, and he is quite kind to all those around him. He likes to spend his weekends doing volunteer work and tries his best to be a good guy. While he is quite nice, he has been known to have massive outbursts of anger now and then, something that started when he was five and just kept going. The reason why he has these outbursts is when he is fully angry against somebody. Because of this, the results are obvious. The last time a massive outburst took place was in Softmore's year, leading to him getting into a fight with a few other kids. The only reason why he wasn’t expelled was because he was the star football player. Instead, he was suspended for two weeks and would begin going to anger management classes (something he makes sure to keep secret from those around him) so he could keep it in check.

The main way he has been able to keep his outbursts in check is by carrying a guitar with him, which he plays not only to calm him down but also to entertain his friends. His personality is friendly, but some feel intimidated due to his appearance and knowledge of his massive fight in sophomore year. He has been on the Southwest Red Rock football team since freshman year, and this has helped him to become pretty popular in school.

As for his intelligence, there is a lot to be desired. He isn’t stupid, he just focuses on the things he cares about, with school not being one of them. He has average intelligence but is just short-sighted. All he cares about is his football career, not only because he wants to be the best on the football field, but also cares about it because he thinks it can help him get out of trouble. This doesn’t mean he would do purposefully dangerous things, it’s more of a just-in-case scenario (evidence was his fight). He has a C average, mainly because of his parent’s help.

Advantages: His physical strength is impeccable, and he is well-liked among his friends, who genuinely care about him. In survival situations, he can quickly tackle the main problems threatening him. If he has a massive outburst that leads to a fight, he would easily and quickly win, although this could only happen if he was truly angry.

Disadvantages: While he is friendly and well-liked, his appearance can easily scare someone who doesn’t know him or has only heard rumors about his massive fight or his infamous outbursts. Plus, while he can easily tackle the main problems affecting him immediately, his short-sightedness would make it quite difficult to look out for a problem that would only affect him down the line.

Relationships: People in the theater program and anyone who knows her would like her quite a lot. However, anyone who has crossed her will be hated by her.

Hobbies and Interests: Theater, Art, singing, broadway music, modern music, dancing, and writing

Appearance: Kaede is 5’ 7’’ and weighs 149, she has black straight hair that goes all the way down to her chest. She looks full of life and has a spring in her step. Her face is small and her face shape is almost completely round and symmetrical, showing her dark, brown, piercing eyes. Her clothing choices vary dramatically from day to day. One day she will have a ponytail with a vibrant sweater with baggy denim pants. The next day she will be wearing bangs along with a crop top and sweatpants.

Biography: Kaede Miller was born on December 29th, 2006, to her rich upper-class family. her parents are parents, Jeanne and Bernard, and grew up alongside her older brother Jerry, who is two years her senior. From a young age, it was clear that Kaede had a natural flair for the dramatic. She was drawn to the stage, participating in various plays during elementary school. By the time she reached middle school, she landed the coveted role of Juliet in the 8th-grade play, which further cemented her passion for theater.

When Kaede entered Red Rock High School, she wasted no time diving into the school’s theater program, committing herself fully to her craft. She quickly became known as one of the hardest-working students in the program, with a reputation for giving her all during rehearsals, performances, and everything related to theater. Despite her intense dedication to her roles, Kaede remains a cheerful and outgoing individual, beloved by her peers for her infectious personality.

She has a massive social circle and is known for her kindness and warmth. Her friends admire her not only for her talent but also for her ability to make everyone feel welcome. However, Kaede's passion for the arts tends to overshadow her academic performance. While she does work hard in her studies, her focus often drifts more toward theater than her grades. This results in a B average, with occasional C’s, which she doesn’t stress over too much. Her philosophy in life is that it's the experience of the journey, not just the grades or achievements, that matters most.

Kaede’s energy extends beyond her theater life; she approaches her daily life with the same level of enthusiasm and charisma. She also loves dancing, which made her want to join the dance team. However, if anyone is rude or mean to her once, she will shun that person. Plus, she can act mean sometimes when she is having a bad day, then act as if nothing ever happened. Whether it’s hanging out with friends, participating in school events, or simply enjoying her hobbies, Kaede treats each moment as an opportunity for self-expression and joy. She is currently writing a book with a few of her friends they have been working on it since freshman year.

Advantages: Socially, Kaede is very charismatic and can lie quite well thanks to her acting, while physically she has high stamina and very good dexterity.
Disadvantages: While Kaede is nice, she can also shun those who don’t share her interests and even openly hate someone rude to her, never being able to act like she hates someone. Plus, she is not physically strong, and would never win a hand-to-hand fight against someone who is either the same or higher level than her.

Thomas Shaw

Lilliana met him when she tried seeing if TTRPGS were her thing. While she did have a good time, she just came to the conclusion it wasn’t something she wanted to pursue any further. I like to think the two of them had some good moments and would probably consider him apart of her friend group.

Yusup is a member of the horror club, so he does know Thomas. With that being said, I feel like the two of them are probably just acquaintances of sorts. Their personalities don’t seem to mesh well, and Yusup has an annoyance for those who live “perfect” lives.

Les and him have similar music tastes, so I like to think they will have some sort of connection there. Les considers himself as a living representative of the 60s, after all.


Chester Mullivan

Yusup is also extremely hotheaded, and considering that he basically feeds into other’s anger instead of trying to prevent it……girl if you have that spot open for somebody to fight against in sophomore year, I fear you found your man…

Ga-eul feels some sort of fear when it comes to him. She witnessed the fight first hand, and considering that was her first year at Southwest, she has made a vow to stay out of the way of him since.

Lopaka loves anybody that’s on the football team, so Chester is automatically on his bro-list. They also have similar problems, both of them having a bit too much of a focus on their sport and overall lives to have a focus on their grades.

Kiandra and him don’t have any connection, but she has made multiple comments to him about his pompadour and how she absolutely hates it. “Please re-do your hair, I could do it, just please get rid of it.”

Thomas

Liliana: This sounds very good and would make a great deal of sense. I feel that based on your description, they could become great friends as the two navigate high school trying to stay on the right track.

Yusup: Maybe they could know each other slightly, but make sure to not interact. Maybe Yusup tried to mess with Thomas. Thomas then proceeded to snitch to a teacher and Yusup has never tried to talk to him again.

Les: The two could probably be acquaintances, knowing and talking to each other in class now and then but never going beyond that thanks to Thomas knowing that he seems to not care about anything. He would probably think of the grades at stake!

Chester

Yusup: This sounds perfect, maybe Yusup was heckling the football team, and Chester had enough. The only question I have is how physical Yusup is, because if he isn’t that tough he could easily wind up dead from this event.

Ga-eul: This goes well, making sure the two would never meet.

Lopaka: Sounds great, and thanks to Chester being quite open to other kids, the two could be great friends.

Kiandra: I would think Chester would eventually get annoyed and tell Kiandra to shut up. Maybe the two could become enemies after that incident.

Les: I think Les and Chester could be friends since Chester plays the guitar and loves showing off. They could get along since Les doesn't care about anything, and Chester could hang out with him to try to emulate him to keep Chester from having another “Incident.”



Overall this all sounds fantastic, thanks for responding and I plan to add most of this to their relationships!

Thomas Shaw

Wade is in the horror club as well, so he’ll consider Thomas a friend based off of that alone. I can see them getting along easily.

Londyn is a known public nuisance who has only very recently started to settle down after nearly getting expelled. Even if Thomas could look past that, Londyn is still pretty unpleasant, so I can’t see scenario where the two would be friendly.

Alec is also a video game guy, so that’s something.

Chester Mullivan

Wade would be aware of his outbursts and try to to interact so much with him.

Londyn would *also* be aware of this but would try and provoke Chester for a video. Whether this persisted after one attempt depends on whether Londyn woke up in the hospital or not (metaphorically).

Alec is likely friendly to Chester, but doesn’t try to get closer because, again, the anger issues.

Hey Ellis! Thanks for replying, here's what I think about everything:

Thomas Shaw

Wade: I think Wade and Thomas would be able to be good friends.

Londyn: Thomas would definitely have a dislike against Londyn, but I don't know if Londyn would not like Thomas back.

Alec: Alec and Thomas could be friends since Thomas loves video games and always wants to find new ones. Plus, both are nerds, so that could work.

Chester Mullivan

Wade: I think the two could hang out as friends with a mutual interest in sports, and Wade could know that Chester isn't trying to have an outburst.

Londyn: I think this would most certainly only happen once, where Chester got angry but it didn't become a full-blown outburst thanks to the rest of the football team. I still think Chester would most likely have taken Londyn's phone and threatened to smash it into pieces before giving it back. All in all, the two most likely don't like each other.

Alec: Yeah, they might just be friendly acquaintances.
