New extension/extended deadlines?

In this post by Buko, it says:

"Just a little reminder and clarification that has been mentioned in past announcements but: with the new extended deadlines in place, requests for additional extensions will NOT be granted. If you have any additional questions about the updated deadline system, please ask the staff. It'd be our pleasure to explain the reasoning behind this new policy."

I think it'd be an important thing to make the reasoning of rulings public. Something about transparency of Staff decisions that will affect the Handlers of the website.

Firstly, we’d like to make clear this was not a ruling, just a reminder of what our current rules are regarding death deadlines. We would also like to clarify because this thread is titled “new extension/extended deadlines” and the staffer referred to it as such, that this rule is not new. These death deadline policies were included in our rules update in May of last year here.

We also reiterated that this timetable is how death deadlines operate previously here and here.

As for the reason for the change, this was included as a result of observing that we often had requests for extensions on deaths. Not wanting to pass judgement on each situation and hoping to give everyone more time across the board, the BKA/BDA deadline was changed from 7 days to 12 days and everyone has until the next BKA/BDA deadline to complete their deaths without staff intervention, effectively giving everyone a month of time. However, we no longer give extensions.
