Steve Carlson Arena

Steve Carlson Arena; named for Minnesota's own, who made up one of the three famous 'Hanson Brothers' in the Paul Newman classic 'Slap-Shot', is the arena that houses the local high school hockey teams. It also plays host to a few minor hockey affiliates, and at least one men's league that goes on during the weekends. Usually always bustling at night, and generally quiet during most of the day, Steve Carlson Arena is one of those places in town that EVERYONE seems to have played at once.

  • Lobby
The lobby of the rink is pretty standard. Complete with snack bar, vending machines, and televisions that display the designated dressing room assignments and times for the games being played. Stairs lead upstairs to the stands, and outside to the parking lot. There's also a viewing area for those who don't want to brave the cold of the arena.

  • Stands
The stands loom over the arena and allow spectators a great view of the action. While not a huge area, it has enough room for at least 300 people to watch the game. and has heaters hanging overhead, which are only SOMETIMES on.

  • Gerry's Pro Shop
Gerry's Pro Shop is the PLACE to be prior to and after games. With a full array of sticks, equipment, and other assorted things like tape and wax, Gerry runs the Pro Shop and has for years. Also known as one of the best skate-sharpeners in the whole city, he's usually found sharpening skates. From time to time, students will work for him in order to pick up some extra cash. The work isn't glamorous, the pay is terrible, but it's easy, and it's a pretty good place to work.

  • Dressing Rooms
There are eight of these, and like most hockey dressing rooms, they maintain a fairly similar size. There is a bench which goes all the way around the room, giving players a place to sit while they change, and hooks above them to put their clothes. There are four shower rooms, which are shared by two dressing rooms each, but with lockable doors. The flooring is skate-blade friendly, and as such has more of a rubbery composition. There is a trash can that sits either in the corner behind the door or in the middle of the room, depending on the dressing room. There is a faint smell to the rooms that smells like hockey. Not a bad smell, but it's an aura that permeates each room. No posts were ever made to this subforum, but it is included for the sake fo completeness.

  • The Ice
A sheet of ice, prepared and ready to go for a hockey game. The penalty benches are on the side of the rink, and the players' benches are on the opposite side. For the most part, the ice is well maintained, if not a little thin in the lower left corner. The scoreboard is at the north end of the rink.
