a town jailer's plausible, but so is scum roleblocker/jailer, and you can fake the doctor component of your claim if need be by withholding the kill. ideally we'd wait until tomorrow before putting you on the chopping block just so that we can confirm whether you're outright lying or not, and lunch another person. however. we are out of time, and i dont wanna waste this day phase

The tavern that day was filled with periods of terse discussion, escalating to brief moments of raised voices and accusations veiled and unveiled and implied threats of violence, only to die down- punctuated by stretches of silence, with the only communication being the glances each of the patrons threw each other's way.

The sun was setting, and no new evidence had turned up for the adventurers. What they did have seemed only to lead them in circles. The twelve of them discovered as much, when they reconvened in the tavern, at dusk. Another thing they discovered was that in fact, they had less to work with than before.

The Cleric raised his hands away from the table defensively, when the others pointed out the lack of the letter from the lord-mayor's missing daughter, detailing an account of what could have been the shadow cult's activity. His eyes were wide, his hands shook. "I don't know what happened. A- uh- a pickpocket, it- I swear I had it on me-"

But the loss of such a key document was simply too suspicious.

It doesn't take long for a commotion to be stirred. On the outskirts, the adventurers found an overturned wagon with the corpse of the Fighter beside it. It's clear that a fight happened here. It's also clear that it was no coincidence that he was one of the adventurers investigating the shadow cult.
