Hunter Kim

Post by Fenris »

Name: Hunter Kim
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Grade: Senior
School: Southwest Red Rock High School
Hobbies and Interests: Streaming, content creation, anime, video games, drawing, singing

Appearance: Hunter stands at 5’4” and weighs 120 pounds; he has a slim but soft figure due to a lack of appreciable exercise. He has pale, clear skin with yellow undertones, and a smattering of freckles across his cheeks and shoulders. His mixed heritage shows itself in a striking combination of features, with a heart-shaped face, snub nose, round lips, and slightly narrow, upturned eyes somewhere between pale blue and grey. He has heavy bags under his eyes consistently enough that he looks strange to those who know him without them, and his lower lip is often visibly distressed from his habit of chewing on it when anxious.

Hunter’s hair is naturally pin-straight and chestnut brown; he wears it down to just above his shoulders in carefully styled feathered layers. His hair has been bleached in streaks that have been dyed mint green; he has kept this style up for several years and has rotated between colors but has stuck with green for the last six months. He is very attached to his hair and keeps a careful routine to prevent the streaks from growing out or the bleached sections from getting too dry.

Hunter’s wardrobe is large and sourced primarily with J-fashion both bought from international brands and imported from overseas. He tends to rotate quickly through clothing and does not keep many pieces in his wardrobe for long, though he will hold on to particular favorites. He favors bright colors and sometimes includes women’s clothing in his rotation if he thinks he can pull it off. He has a handful of piercings that he regularly changes the jewelry for to match his current look, including two lobe piercings and a flat piercing in his left ear, and one lobe piercing plus two helix piercings in his right ear. He also has a midline tongue piercing with a simple silver barbell which he never replaces. He will sometimes paint his nails to match his outfit on special occasions, though he rarely has time.

On the day of the abduction, Hunter was wearing an oversized black OMOCAT-branded sweatshirt featuring an anime-style wolf boy design in orange and white, which came partway down his thigh. He paired this with matching black and orange patterned leggings, black socks, and orange Japan Street sneakers. He was wearing black rings in both of his helix piercings with a matching black stud in his right side lobe piercing, paired silver skulls in his left side lobe piercings, and an enamel jack-o-lantern in his flat piercing. His nails were painted black and orange on alternating fingers.

Biography: Hunter Sebastian Kim was born on October 26th, 2006 as the second child of Peter and Maria Kim. Peter and Maria met while attending Western University of Health Sciences, with Peter studying nursing and Maria studying osteopathic medicine. Both were extremely driven, straight-A students who were part of the same study group, and while neither had much time to socialize they managed to find time for one another. Peter proposed to Maria directly after their graduation, and the two moved to Las Vegas to be close to Maria’s family. Peter, who is ½ Korean on his father’s side, was kicked out of his home at the age of 18, and is estranged from his family. Hunter has never met any family members on his father’s side, but Maria’s family was always close by.

Peter and Maria had their first child, Tara, about five years after marriage, so as not to interfere with Maria’s residency. Tara was the beneficiary of as much love and attention as Peter and Maria could give with their intensive careers, as well as doting from Maria’s extended family, but she was also subject to very high expectations and standards. Tara met these expectations and took the pressure in stride, making the straight-As that were expected from her and committing from a young age to follow her parents’ path to medical school. Tara appeared to be the perfect child for all intents and purposes, and Peter and Maria had not intended to have a second child.

Maria became pregnant for a second time with Hunter when Tara was six years old. She and Peter debated keeping the child, but Tara was delighted at the prospect of being an older sibling, and, as at this point Peter and Maria had both settled comfortably into their careers and were making good money, they decided it was a fine time to have a second child. What Maria was unaware of at the time was that Peter had been exploring the possibility of becoming a travel nurse, which would increase his income significantly at the expense of him having to spend most of his time away from home. When Peter doubled down on this idea after agreeing to keep Hunter, arguing that the extra income would be worth Maria having to rely more on her family for childcare, it drove a rift between Peter and Maria that has never completely healed.

Due to Maria’s busy schedule and Peter rarely being home, Hunter was raised more by Maria’s parents than by his own. Between this, Peter having been the disciplinarian parent between himself and Maria, and the parents having so heavily laid their expectations on Tara, Hunter grew up with minimal oversight and was mostly left to his own devices, though his grandparents did love him very much and took care of him the best they could when he was with them.

It was Hunter’s grandmother Lori who introduced him to one of his first loves, art, when he was old enough to hold a pencil. Lori had had dreams of becoming a professional artist in her younger years which had never gone anywhere, but her art filled her home, and Hunter taking interest in it was enough for Lori to start teaching him the basics. This was a skill he would develop both under her care and later on his own, though his early attempts at realism had little resemblance to his later efforts.

In his early years, Hunter was a friendly and playful child, though quick to anger and regularly chastised by his teachers for yelling at classmates or throwing things with little provocation. When prompted he would express frustration that a conversation or game had not gone his way; while his reactions became less dramatic over time as he learned it was easier not to make trouble, he also learned that it was easier to avoid frustrating situations by minimizing the amount of time he spent talking to his classmates. By the end of elementary school Hunter was a fairly withdrawn child, content to spend most of his time drawing in his sketchbooks. His teachers would note that while he was a mediocre student who was able to compensate for a lack of effort with inherent intelligence, and a less-than-mediocre playmate, he was clearly dedicated to his interest in drawing and could concentrate exclusively on it for much longer than the average child.

His most consistent playmate was Tara, who, while significantly older than him, worried over him constantly and tried to break him out of his shell by introducing him to her own hobbies. The two that stuck most for him were anime, which she regularly streamed online, and video games. While Tara tried to engage Hunter in playing party games appropriate for his age, he found much more enjoyment in watching her play single-player RPGs intended for older gamers, and he quickly began playing them by himself, with Tara covering for him when he played games their family might not approve of. As for anime, watching currently streaming shows became a tradition for him and his sister, and he began to branch out into shows she wasn’t interested in and related content as he got older. His artistic style moved away from the realism Lori had taught him and toward an anime style, though the strong fundamentals he had learned from his grandmother stuck with him, and he continued his dedication to practice.

As Hunter aged into middle school, Tara moved away to college, leaving Hunter with an abundance of alone time as his parents felt he no longer needed to be babysat. He made some attempts in his new school to make friends, as he was beginning to feel somewhat bored with the lack of regular company, but the same issues that plagued his relationships as a child only worsened in his adolescence. He for the most part found the others in his classes to be irritating at best and unbearable at worst, as he resented having to take part in conversations that didn’t interest him or having to adhere to the wants and needs of others. While he maintained shallow friendships with some of his classmates based on discussing anime or games, Hunter remained primarily focused on himself and his own interests, and preferred to make friends online versus in person through various fandom communities. He would occasionally post his art online as well, and the praise he got as a result was compelling for him, more so than the compliments he received from classmates. However, he never received significant attention in this way.

It was through one of these casual friends in middle school that he became interested in the Vocaloid fandom, which he had been tangentially aware of through its significant online presence. While he enjoyed the music in its own right, he became particularly interested in the community of singers who made covers of Vocaloid songs, enjoying notoriety and popularity in their own right. After becoming enamored with a particular popular cover artist and wondering how he could gain that sort of attention online, Hunter asked his parents for vocal lessons, which they had no objections with paying for, happy as they were that he wanted to do anything offline at all. His voice was naturally decent, though nothing special, and through those lessons he gradually became a good enough singer that he felt confident in starting to make cover songs himself.

It was during the transition between middle school and high school that Hunter began to become self-conscious of his appearance and the impression others had of him, despite his continued disdain for most he met in person. He found that while he had limited interest in others, he still wanted them to be interested in him; while he earnestly felt he deserved others’ interest by default, he found others didn’t find him as naturally interesting as he believed himself to be. He viewed himself as quite attractive as he progressed through puberty, and took great pains to keep it that way; he took the opportunity to reinvent himself to some extent during the summer before starting at Red Rock, getting his hair cut, styled and dyed, and taking advantage of his parents’ significant income and willingness to spend it on him to start expanding his wardrobe.

It was also during this summer that he started his Youtube channel, which would become a major focus of his life. As most Vocaloid cover artists used an anime character as their avatar for their accounts, Hunter drew his himself; mostly on a whim at the time, he simply drew a stylized and somewhat older version of himself, as he believed himself to be good-looking enough for the job. He began uploading cover songs, each with a custom-drawn thumbnail of his avatar, on a near-weekly basis. Though it took a little time for his channel to pick up steam, the combination of his consistent upload schedule, striking art style, good voice and, perhaps most consequently, fervent networking with other creators allowed his channel to achieve reasonable success. As of his senior year, Hunter’s channel, where he simply goes by HUNTER, has very recently hit 60k subscribers, and larger channels have begun to take notice and reach out for collaborations, a soft milestone he feels is indicative of his success.

After about a year, Hunter decided to expand his ambition further. He had already been aware of the VTuber phenomenon, which had really begun to take off in the last year or so; while he was only tangentially a part of the VTube fan community, he began to notice the success of international VTubers and, as he continued to play video games himself in his free time, decided that streaming would be a logical extension of his burgeoning brand, and creating a VTuber avatar would be a simple way to hide his age and identity.

In keeping with his Youtube brand, he spent several months after school hand-crafting a Live2D avatar, again modeled after himself with any perceived flaws erased. He began streaming himself on Twitch playing Persona 5 Royal as his first series, and as with his Youtube channel he has very consistently maintained a schedule of two streams a week ever since. His Twitch channel has not seen quite as much success as his Youtube channel, but he regularly cross-promotes between the two and has an active and talkative fanbase on his streams. As part of streaming and maintaining his success, Hunter has adapted a charming and charismatic mode of speech that has allowed for an easy rapport with his followers on both channels. While this is mostly affected, he has become adept enough at utilizing it that he is capable of coming across as charming in real life as well, at least for short periods, though he finds it exhausting when his preference is typically to be as blunt as possible.

Since Hunter has started his Youtube channel, it has become a primary focus in his life to the detriment of his health and scholastic performance. While he is able to maintain Bs and Cs at school, his report cards reflect that he is capable of much better performance if he were to put in the time and effort to study. Sleep-deprived has become the norm for him, and he consumes an unusual amount of caffeine to compensate, exacerbating the issue. He has a hard time relaxing in general, as any idle moment he has feels like it could be better spent working on something for his channels, though he does continue to keep up with the most interesting seasonal anime and occasionally finds time to play a game off-stream or spend time with someone offline.

Sometime during Hunter’s evolution of self-expression in freshman year, Hunter came to the conclusion, primarily through interaction with another boy supposedly his own age on an anime forum, that he was interested in men. He easily adopted this as part of his streamer identity, not causing much of a stir as it was hardly unusual for a male VTuber; at school it was quickly evident that others had made the assumption before he had come to the realization himself on the basis of his flamboyant aesthetic choices. While he was somewhat resentful of the label being placed on him without his input, it at least meant he didn’t have to discuss it with anyone. He still has not discussed it with his parents, though he has with his sister, who has been nothing but reassuring. It was as a result of this revelation that Hunter began occasionally attending parties thrown by Red Rock students, where he could swing an invite or where doors were open to all; the feigned easy charisma he has developed from streaming serves him well here, and while he mostly finds it tedious, he has found no better or safer way to scan the student body for boys who might catch his eye.

Hunter’s relationship with his parents has deteriorated over the years. His father is rarely home, but when he is Peter is the one to lecture Hunter on his sleep schedule, his most recent report card, and the like. As a result, Hunter has grown to resent his father, and when Peter is home Hunter tends to lock himself in his room for as long as he can get away with. Maria, for her part, is focused on Tara’s successful college career in pre-med, and Hunter has always felt that she has favored his sister to some extent. While she clearly loves her son, she is more willing to let him do what he wants and does not feel there is much point in arguing with him, stubborn and willful as he has always been. Hunter has learned he can talk back to her with no pushback and generally ignores her as much as possible. He rarely sees his grandparents anymore, as they have both moved into a nursing home and he feels little motivation to visit them. He does still love his sister, and is happy to see her when she visits home; however, he does prioritize his channel upkeep over her, knowing that she will forgive him for missing out on time with her.

Hunter has not put much thought into his future post-senior year outside of continuing to grow his online presence. To this date he has not monetized his channels at all, as he has considered it beneath him and his hobbies have been subsidized by his parents, but he is willing to do so in the future as it becomes necessary and hopes to grow his brand throughout college such that he will be able to make a full-time income off of it. In the meantime he has agreed to attend Nevada State University on his parents’ dime with no particular major in mind, under the assumption that either he will find something interesting enough to suit him, or his career will grow enough that he can drop out without worry.

Hunter is an extremely ambitious and driven person, and having turned that drive near-exclusively to building his online persona and reputation. His relationships with his classmates are limited and somewhat strained; while he can pretend to be personable where needed, he often does not see the point, though he will not leave others with a bad impression of him if he thinks he can use them in the future in some way. His reputation at school is mixed and contradictory, with different people having seen sides of him so different as to hardly seem like the same people at all, and even those that would consider themselves his friends are not always sure how he feels about them in return. Hunter has few people who would go to bat for him and even then not without reservations; in this way, he gives as good as he gets.

Advantages: Hunter has limited social attachments at Red Rock and is unlikely to be highly emotionally affected by the actions or fates of others. He is capable of being charismatic and social as needed without forming genuine attachments. He is a highly driven person who is willing to go to great lengths to achieve desired ends.
Disadvantages: Hunter is a small, weak boy who spends very little time outdoors and who is very unprepared for the rigors of the island. He has few, if any, classmates who would be willing to stick their necks out for him specifically. He has a tendency to get frustrated easily when things do not go his way, potentially leading to him blowing any alliances he manages to make.

Howdy Fenris. You know the drill, DENIED, etc. Hunter's looking great, with only a few small grammar errors that I'm worried about.
