((Parker Green - 05:37 am - START))

It felt like only a brief moment ago he’d been wracked with irrational, existential dread at the idea of the sleepless stretch of rest he was enduring would go on until dawn, when his eyes opened again and he felt distinctly less tired. All he could see was pitch black, but that wasn’t unusual, he’d worn his eyemask long enough that waking up to seeing nothing didn’t startle him any more.

What did startle him was the feeling of someone or something grabbing a hold of him.

His right arm - the one not currently being… pressed on? - snapped up and scrambled across his face to peel the foam pad away from his eyes, as he felt tension build in his chest, trying to connect the dots as to just what was hap-

Ah.

That wasn’t the ceiling to his room.

He was in a hotel, wasn’t he?

A quick glance to his left confirmed that the source of his discomfort was, whilst still nefarious, was so on a lower level than the images his caveman brain had conjured up when he was being grabbed by forces unseen. It was Myles, who had managed to slide across the very deliberate gap in the beds in order to invade his personal space.

His heartbeat began to slow a little, and he let his head fall back into the pillow as he grimaced a little, mentally trying to pull back to DEFCON 4 from the 2 it had been. Shoving Myles off of him would probably not end too well. He just needed to take a moment and think clearly about this, as much as the whole situation made him want to hit the ejector seat as hard as possible.

It felt wrong. Nothing about what was happening was something he would really object to, Myles was one of the few guys he had eyes for, even if he wasn’t worth the trouble. Something like this should be the sort of thing he was pleasantly surprise by, rather than hated, right?

He rubbed the side of his face, brushing more of the sleep out of his eyes, before pinching the bridge of his nose.

He should have just slept on the goddamn floor.

God, it was freezing in here.

That was the main half-thought that rose in Myles's barely-conscious mind, leading him to wriggle deeper under the covers on instinct. Not warm enough still.

Conveniently there was something-slash-someone pretty warm right nearby. The what and/or who were for conscious Myles to deal with. Sleepy Myles wanted to be not-cold, and that was that.

A bit of wriggle-shuffle-cling later, and he was in the perfect position to stick his cold feet onto the warmth. Much better.

“Guh!”

The reaction was instinctual as he fruitlessly tried to squirm away from the sudden coldness pressing up against him, before settling down once again as he successfully leeched enough heat out of him to become merely clammy and uncomfortable.

God, what fucking time was it? It was still dark in the room, with no hint of dawn leaking through the blinds yet, but that was a long window of time.

His mercifully free right arm dangled over the edge of the bed, groping in the darkness for a familiar shape, running against bare, grimy carpet for seconds that stretched into minutes before his nails tapped metal.

The phone slid into his palm neatly as he brought it up, holding it parallel to his face as it rested in the pillow, unable to sit up and unwilling to crane his neck down. His index finger tapped the lower button on the top left an—

After his eyesight had recovered from the retina scorching blast that was opening an iPhone at max brightness early in the morning, fingers working in half blind frenzy to drag a slider down, he was given the answer to his question. 05:38.

Roughly an hour before he wanted to get up. Amazing. So the chances of him actually getting some sleep after this were next to nothing. Fantastic. Excellent. A pointed glare was sent Myles’ way, despite his sleep filled ignorance. With that necessary outlet filled, he took in a deep, slow breath through his nose, only to let it escape with a frustrated huff, his chest rising and falling in quick succession as he fought to figure out what he could do to get out of this.

It wasn’t that he was opposed to waking Myles up and telling him to get the fuck off of him. In fact, right now he wanted nothing more than to do that. And maybe wake him up with a bucket of cold water to the face tomorrow to see how he liked it. But doing something like that carried a cost, and not just for every future interaction with Myles, but it would also likely mean that this story would make the rounds. If not by Myles tongue, then Brets or Juliens, and the latter two had reason to not leave his name out of it. After all, there was certainly one thing that hugging in bed implied, and suggesting that Myles was loose enough to sleep with the person he got randomly assigned to share a bed with was the kind of rumour that he didn’t want to be involved in.

It would be better for the two of them if he could just manage to get out of this thing without too much fuss. He could make sure it didn’t happen again under more appropriate circumstances.

With that in mind, he gingerly took a hold of Myles’ wrist and began to lift it up off his chest, trying his best to fold it towards him so he could slip out from the lichen-like adhesion to his side.

Mmmmmmmmm no.

Myles's brow furrowed slightly, and he instinctively twitched away from the grasp on his wrist, but he made no attempt to move away from the warmth. If anything, he pressed closer, his subconscious displeased at the hint that the physical comfort might be taken away from him.

“Puh. Pft. Augh.”

Parker looked away and to the side as Myles’ hair pressed up against the side of his face, the blonde tide quickly managing to get in the way of his breathing. The reaction was instinctual as he tried to spit out the few strands of hair that had adventured into his mouth. His face was twisted into an uncomfortable grimace as he leaned his neck away from his personal space invader, hair still tickling the side of his face as he continued to try and remove Myles’ arm from across his torso.

He just about succeeded, managing to rest Myles’ arm on his side neatly, although his forearm drooped down, fingertips still brushing against his side as he squirmed in momentary discomfort.

And then, he waited.

You had to wait before you did something to someone asleep, he reasoned. Doing too much, too fast, would probably be how he woke Myles up. And neither of them wanted that, even if only one of them was consciously aware of that fact. It gave him time to think too, as he let his head roll over to the side, closing his eyes in thought as he pondered what better options he had for removing his now probably quite toasty feet from locking him in position.

It also gave him time to consider how he was going to avoid this in the future. If he was going to do this on the first night, the night where both of them would be the least comfortable with each other, it was practically guaranteed this was going to be a recurring issue if he didn’t sort it out. And the beds didn’t come apart either, he’d checked, which meant he was probably going to have to sleep elsewhere.

There was the possibility of swapping beds perhaps, but Bret’s reaction to waking up being cuddled by Myles was unlikely to be particularly pleasant, and as fun as the prospect of violent retribution by proxy was, he was probably unlikely to convince him to trade in the first place. And as much as it was joked about, Julien and Myles were about as likely to share a bed as him and Emma Stone, so that whole option was a wash.

Perhaps he could convince someone to trade rooms with him? Staff didn’t seem to be keeping too close of an eye on that, and there were almost certainly people who would envy he position, although not a single name sprang to mind. He’d have to ask Gaelan - if he was even on the trip, he hadn’t exactly studied the list of people coming - about that sort of thing, he’d know who to talk to, and he could probably come up with a reason that wasn’t the actual one for wanting to swap.

His brow furrowed as he continued to contemplate his options in otherwise stoic, static silence.

There. Good. Comfy.

The slight movements had nudged Myles a little closer to consciousness than unconsciousness, but he was trying his best to cling to the lower end of the scale. He was not a morning person, and it didn't even feel like morning yet to begin with.

He was, at most, only vaguely aware of the fact that he was cuddled up to a someone rather than a something, but that wasn't unusual enough an occurrence to merit fully waking up to check it out. Instead, he hooked one ankle over the someone's leg (the better to keep them from escaping in case his feet got cold again) and sank further under the covers with a sigh.

Parker was, at least, glad that Myles had deigned to dress himself before bed as he continued to shuffle onto him. The Batman pyjama bottoms had been something he’d considered mocking, but as he was only in boxers and socks, they provided just enough barrier to prevent the kind of skin to skin contact that would have made him bolt out of the bed as he wedged a leg between the two of his.

Myles was, apparently, a Chinese finger trap. The harder he tried to leave, the more he clung to him.

Fuck it. Time to bite the bullet.

“Myles...” he whispered, his voice barely above a whisper as he tried to make sure he wouldn’t wake up the rest of the room.

No response.

“Myles” he repeated, this time trying to speak as normally as he could with ill-warmed up vocal cords, his voice cracking slightly.

Myles.” he repeated a third time, voice sharp and stern as he continued to seemingly evade reality. Hopefully that would be enough to rouse him.

“Get the fuck off of me.” He ordered.

...Huh?

Unable to ignore the prodding any longer, Myles cracked his eyes open to squint at the person speaking to him. It was surprisingly hard to recognize people when your faces were only about an inch apart.

After several long seconds, things clicked, and Myles snatched all his limbs back away from Parker like he was suddenly covered in acid. "What are you doing!?" He hissed, indignant despite the fact that Parker had not been doing much of anything at all.

Okay, on the scale of grossness, Parker was probably a middle-of-the-road choice and definitely the least offensive in the room. That didn't mean that Myles would have ever gotten within hugging distance were he fully awake and aware at the time. On the other hand, God. It. Was. Freezing in here.

"Who the heck turned the air conditioning up so high?"

Parker’s eyes narrowed, glaring back in way of response to the accusation that he was at fault, though he kept himself from correcting him in the brief pause between that and the next exclamation.

“Don’t know.” he replied, as he less abruptly pulled away from the divet in the bed Myles' and his combined weight had left. His left arm and hand tingled painfully as blood began to rush into it, nerve endings firing with wild abandon as they were re-oxygenated. He pulled his hand awkwardly up from the covers, limp and hard to control as he began to shake it, trying to hurry the unpleasant feeling along.

“Don’t care.” he added, after another moment's thought. Whatever Myles' excuse was, he was going to have to accept it - he didn’t exactly have a method of recourse - but that didn’t mean he had to be happy about it. Or make Myles think he was happy about it.

He just wanted to make sure this didn’t happen again. His left side felt uncomfortably hot and sticky, and he wasn’t sure who’s sweat that was. He wanted a shower.

He rolled over onto his side, looking out into the blackness of the room.

Myles huffed at Parker's back, but apparently no further conversation was forthcoming. Well, fine. It wasn't like Myles had consciously cuddled up to him, so he didn't have anything to apologize for.

Eugh, now he was sweaty though in addition to still being cold, which made everything worse. And to top it all off, it was nerd residue. Myles wasn't about to get out from under the covers and go in search of either the thermostat or a shower, though, so instead he followed suit from Parker and turned onto his side, back to his... companion.

After a moment, he tugged more of the blankets over to his side to more comfortably cocoon himself. Parker should just be thankful that Myles didn't stick his feet over there again.

Parker breathed in through his nose, and out through his mouth.

He was trying to keep the breathing shallow enough that it wouldn't sound - or feel - like he was controlling his breathing.

Parker breathed in through his nose, and out through his mouth.

Why Myles had, specifically, decided to steal the cover for himself, eluded him. But, dealing with the issue was, at this point, going to be more pain than it was worth. It wasn't like we was going to get any sleep anyway, so being slightly uncomfortable wasn't a huge cost. It was just irksome.

Parker breathed in through his nose, and out through his mouth.

He curled up just a little, hugging his legs closer to his body. It was kind of cold in here, he supposed. Not cold enough that he couldn't just wait for 20 minutes, and Myles to go back to sleep, and then go downstairs. Maybe he could get breakfast early, and still have enough time to get in the shower before the rest of them woke up.

Parker breathed in through his nose, and out through his mouth.

Parker was breathing weird. Myles wondered about it for all of about five seconds, then he closed his eyes and snuggled back down into the covers. It wasn't as comfortable as before, but since "before" had been wrapped around somebody he had never especially wanted to wrap himself around in the first place, nor would he want anybody else to know about it, he made due.

It seemed like only a minute or two passed, but when Myles opened his eyes again, proper sunlight was peeking through the gap between the curtains and ceiling, throwing a bar of light over to the wall that he was facing. Raising his head and turning slightly to glance around at the room confirmed that everyone else was still off in dreamland. Myles was all prepared to return to such himself, but then something occurred to him.

Was there a limit to the hot water in hotel showers?

Hm. Hmmmm.

It seemed like that would be a real issue, given how many people used one hotel at any given time. On the other...

...Nope, not worth the risk. Taking care to be stealthy, Myles slid out from under the covers and light-footed his way over to his suitcase. It was a battered four-wheel upright, black with a red cloud pattern that made it easy to pick out even in the low light. (Myles hoped that Parker wasn't the kind of nerd who would pick it out as Naruto merch left over from that one really regrettable phase in middle school.)

As quietly as he could, Myles opened the suitcase and retrieved a fresh change of clothes and the plastic bag holding all his toiletries. He made a quick detour back to grab his phone from where it was plugged in at his bedside; he always listened to music in the shower. Mission accomplished, he made his way to the bathroom, closed and locked the door, and proceeded to get everything set up for his morning routine.

It occurred to him about five seconds too late that blasting music from the bathroom kind of defeated the purpose of trying not to wake everyone else up.

Oh well. The door locked from the inside.

Parker liked to think he was good at waiting. Not perfect at it, for sure, but when it was the best action, he tried to curtail the urge to be doing something. Normally by thinking about things, but even when he lacked the mental acuity to come up with a subject to unravel, he could force himself to just stare around aimlessly until enough time felt like it had passed.

His eyes scanned the room as he listened to Myles' breathing, ignoring the huffing and struggling that he made as he cocooned himself further in the covers. He could keep them, at this point. The transition was hard to catch, as his breathing went from the deliberate, short breaths of someone trying to control it to the longer, shallower breathing of sleep. He waited a little bit, and looked at his phone, tilting his head over the edge of the bed.

The minute number ticked over after a few seconds and he waited a little longer, staring at it.

The minute number ticked over again. Myles' breathing was still the same.

He slipped out of bed without waking him, picking up the clothes he'd set aside to wear tomorrow off of the top of his case where he'd left them, the anonymous, practical, unbranded black fabric of his luggage falling into the background when compared to the other three. He wandered into the bathroom and quietly locked the door behind him, changing quickly and quietly, not putting shoes on as he slunk out of the room, guided by his stomach and the dimmed early morning lighting.
