Mr. Jamal Jordan

History teacher/boys’ athletic coach

NPCs (non-player characters) go here. This section is for characters who will not be participating in the game, including teachers and school administration. To encourage consistency, the staff have created a number of ready-made teachers, all of whom are available for free handler use unless stated otherwise. Please link any appearances these staff make in threads by replying to their topics. For this pregame, any additional NPCs will require staff approval on a case-by-case basis. Please contact staff if you wish to create any NPCs, and note that we will generally be trying to keep their numbers slim; pregame is, first and foremost, about the students.

Mr. Jamal Jordan

#1

Post by SOTF_Help »

Name: Jamal Jordan
Position: History teacher/boys’ athletics coach
Gender: Male
Age: 32

Appearance: Mr. Jordan is a tall and slender man of African American descent standing at 6’5”and weighing just under 200lbs, Mr. Jordan casts a large shadow within the halls of John Endecott Memorial. His skin is a dark chestnut brown that compliments his large, light brown eyes that are often hidden behind thick rimmed black glasses. Mr. Jordan takes pride in his individual style and in an effort to make his class more exciting is often seen going to school with a variety of colored bowties and flamboyantly colored dress shirts. This is a habit that he has brought with him to games and it has garnered more attention than the play of the Terriers.

Any accusation that Mr. Jordan only wears the bowties to distract from his unfortunate receding hairline is met with disdain and chagrin.

Biography/Personality: Jamal Jordan is a scion of South Boston and was the starting point guard behind a state championship team at his own high school. Mr. Jordan’s basketball career ended after graduation and he attended the University of Massachusetts where he majored in United States History, particularly post-World War 2. After graduating college at 25, Jamal began working as a substitute teacher primarily within private and charter schools being unable to hold down or get his foot in the door for a permanent position. That changed three years ago when Mr. Jordan was hired by John Endecott Memorial and begun coaching their boys athletic teams, mostly out of a mutual lack of options. Mr. Jordan's own atheltic experience gives him a special inclination towards basketball but his general love of sports allows him to be a passionate coach for any team who happens to need his leadership.

Mr. Jordan is generally liked by the student body while considered to be a well-meaning incompetent by his colleagues. His classrooms are often vibrant and filled with discussion. Mr. Jordan can be quite passionate in talking about history and quite lenient with rules, which make his class a frequent destination for students looking to skip their own class. A people pleaser to a fault, Mr. Jordan enjoys anybody who laughs at his jokes or provides genuine interest in his subject. As a basketball coach, it is clear that both his game knowledge and desire to win are lacking and he often times punctuates strategy or film sessions with long drawn out and poorly thought out history metaphors. With this being said, Mr. Jordan is an educator who loves what he does and he loves his students. He often tries to little avail to connect to them all the while showing his own nerdy, over-eager side.

Jamal thinks that he is one winning season and a black tie away from gaining the respect and admiration of his more stuck up and traditional colleagues. He struggles to think if those things are worth the love of his job and his connection with his students. He would take a million losses if it meant changing one student's life.
