Diplomacy of the Fittest
Interest check ahoy! The notion of playing Diplomacy online came up a while back in #forum-games and I said I'd make a proper planning thread so here we be.
Don't know what it is? Per Wikipedia:
Diplomacy is a strategic board game created by Allan B. Calhamer in 1954 and released commercially in the United States in 1959. Its main distinctions from most board wargames are its negotiation phases (players spend much of their time forming and betraying alliances with other players and forming beneficial strategies) and the absence of dice and other game elements that produce random effects. Set in Europe in the years leading to the First World War, Diplomacy is played by two to seven players, each controlling the armed forces of a major European power (or, with fewer players, multiple powers). Each player aims to move their few starting units and defeat those of others to win possession of a majority of strategic cities and provinces marked as "supply centers" on the map; these supply centers allow players who control them to produce more units. Following each round of player negotiations, each player can issue attack and support orders, which are then executed during the movement phase. A player takes control of a province when the number of provinces that are given orders to support the attacking province exceeds the number of provinces given orders to support the defending province.
That's pretty much the gist. 1910s Europe, 7 players, no randomisation, all strategy and backstabbing: get the supply centres, dominate Europe.

Not 100% on how it'd go down but my instinct tells me that this website is probably the way to go, with communication via Discord or however else we want to, and updates on the state of the world posted here for posterity, probably. Ideally seven players, possibly forming teams if there's more than seven interested (or indeed people want to be involved but aren't comfortable taking the helm)? Would put the orders deadline up to a vote among the players but at a guess I'd say probably one or two days to keep it from taking actual months to complete.

Well I make that seven already, that was quick. Any preferences among us (sus) on length of time to finalise orders?
Just finished reading through the rules, and no particular preference on my end.
I think a day or two per turn cycle is more than fair. I'd push for two considering the negotiation element but I'm not that picky if people want to just have one day turnarounds.

Day or two is good to me, leaning on two as well just to account for negotiations + potential IRL shit.
