You know that band that was popular in the eighties? Well, they're actually still making music. Would you believe it?
SONG CONTEST 66 - BLAST FROM THE PAST
Welcome to the 66th SOTF song contest. As your reigning bronze medalist, I am your host this time.
The theme for this one is essentially "new songs from old artists". The industry is fickle and unforgiving. A musical artist can be on the top of the world one minute and down in the gutter the next. But many of them keep doing what they love, years and years after the world's forgotten about them. For this contest, the goal is to submit recent songs from artists or bands that have long lost their popularity. If you love a recent single from this band everyone assumes died in a bus crash back in '76, this is your chance to give it more exposure.
I'm not going to set strict rules regarding time periods. In my estimation, the artist/band should be at least ten years past relevancy, and the song should be from within the past three years. But if you go a little outside those limits, I won't refuse you. It's subjective. And of course, the artists don't need to have had mainstream popularity - they could have been a niche indie band. As long as they had some sort of audience that's mostly moved on.

There's no need to relentlessly bash songs in chat. This is for fun and we all have different tastes, which is part of the experience of participating in these.
Songs will be randomly divided into 2 or 3 semifinals depending on turnout. if you're going to be away at some point in the next couple of weeks, let me know and I can try to put your song in a round when you'll be here.
Listen to every song and give points to your top 10 favorites: 12 to your favorite, 10 to your second, 8 to your third, 7 to your fourth, and so on down to 1 point for your tenth favorite.
If your song is in a given round, you must vote that round or you'll be eliminated. if your song isn't in that round (or you aren't in the contest at all), your vote will be counted as a public vote, which counts for half points.
If you're doing a public vote in chat, tag me in Discord with @Polybius so that I can find them or send them to me like regular votes. If you don't do this, I can't guarantee I'll find them.
Public votes will all count as half-votes.
The top songs will move on to the final; the number of top songs depends on the number of contestants. Repeat the process for the finals and we get a winner.
The winner gets to hold the next contest, or they can pass the job along to 2nd place if they don't want to. 2nd place can pass down to third, etc, until someone wants to host.
Each semifinal and the final will last for three days.
If you know at the start of your semifinal that you wont be available to vote for those four days, let me know and I can move you to another semifinal, if we aren't on the final one already.
