S083 - Fuentes, Aracelis

#1

Post by backslash »

Name: Aracelis Fuentes
Gender: Female
Age: 18
Grade: 12
School: John Endecott Memorial Academy
Hobbies and Interests: Cheerleading, gymnastics, photography, urban exploration, weed and raving.

Appearance: Aracelis is a Hispanic girl of Cuban descent who is 5’3” tall and weighs 100 lbs. She has a rectangular face with high cheekbones and a jaw that tapers into a round chin. Her eyes are round and brown with thick eyebrows while her nose is button-shaped. Her deep brown hair is long and curly. Aracelis is also noticeably toned with visible muscles from the years she has spent doing cheerleading and gymnastics.

Aracelis normally wears loose-fitting airy clothing, such as harem pants or flowy light dresses with various styles of crop top and an oversized beanie and hoodie to stay warm in the winter. On her feet, she wears cream or grey toms style slip-ons or casual sandals. When she is training, running or doing any urban exploration she wears more athletic wear and proper running trainers. Aracelis is short-sighted and prefers to wear contact lenses to correct this as she thinks glasses make her look ugly. She does however still have a pair of golden claude aviators she wears when she has to, although sometimes she will just go without.

On the day of the abduction, Aracelis was wearing a black form-fitting long-sleeve turtleneck top, underneath a black knitted jumper with an asymmetric neckline. Over this, she also wore a leather jacket, while on her lower half she had a high-waisted light grey plaid skirt and a pair of white toms slip-ons with thick white socks and nude tights.

Biography: Aracelis was born in Salem, Massachusetts to Jorge and Isabel Fuentes, two children of Cuban immigrants. The pair were both born and lived in Salem their whole lives and were high school sweethearts. Aracelis herself was born not long after her parents’ marriage and has also lived in Salem for her whole life.

When she was a young child Aracelis was quite adventurous and quickly figured out how to crawl and walk. Once she’d learned how to walk, Aracelis proved difficult for her parents to contain, always attempting to explore her surroundings and escape from whatever attempt her parents made to keep her where they could watch over her. She would also spend a lot of time running everywhere, something that caused her parents numerous headaches.

In an attempt to try and channel Aracelis’ energy her parents placed her into a youth cheerleading club. While a young Aracelis was initially resistant to the idea, after attending for a little while she came to see the other women and girls taking part as popular and beautiful in an aspirational way. It wasn’t long after this that cheer became one of Aracelis’ primary passions in life. She has been practicing cheer since that time and enjoys the skill and technique required to perform at a high level as well as the perceived glamour that comes with it. While she has suffered injuries during her time taking part in the sport she has never considered stopping. Additionally, Aracelis works out to improve her own skills and abilities outside of the club and dreams of attending and winning Nationals. Her main role on the cheer team is as a tumbler and is noted for her ability to do difficult tumble passes that require a high degree of strength.

Aracelis’ love of cheerleading naturally led to her taking up gymnastics as well. As she was young when she made the decision her reasoning was it was just more of something she liked but as grew older she came to appreciate the different aspects and disciplines of gymnastics. But even with that appreciation Aracelis’ favorite gymnastics disciplines are floor and tumbling, both things that see a crossover with skills she needs for cheer, although she also enjoys vault. For all of gymnastics, she enjoys the skill required as well as the creativity needed to put together routines or moves.

As Aracelis grew up, she became more and more independent and found herself spending a lot of time walking or running around Salem, taking time to explore her hometown and the surrounding area. Her parents were fine with this as they considered Salem a safer city where crimes were less likely to occur but initially set a curfew on the time Aracelis could stay out until. During these explorations, Aracelis would frequently take photos of interesting things she saw on the way. It didn’t take long for these random bouts of photography to become a full-blown hobby for Aracelis who would specifically search out weird, interesting, or abandoned locales to take photos of.

These photography trips naturally evolved into a desire to see what was inside the abandoned buildings she was taking photos of. It wasn’t long after getting this urge that Aracelis started to venture into these buildings and places to explore. She finds this interesting and somewhat exciting in equal measure, although she partly does it for photography purposes. Urban exploration is also something of a social activity for her as she has friends that she explores locations with.

Thanks to her presence on the cheerleading team for every school she had attended, Aracelis was frequently positioned in what was typically considered the popular crowd and through this Aracelis found herself invited to many parties over the years. It was at these parties that she had her first exposure to recreational drug use. While at first, Aracelis was unsure of what to make of this she quickly decided to take part, viewing it as just another adventure to take part in. Aracelis’ favorite drug to partake in is marijuana as she enjoys the brief weightless feeling she gets when she smokes as well as the social aspect of hanging out with friends and getting high together. Aracelis first started attending raves as older cheerleaders she was friends with graduated and continued to invite her to parties. The extent of drug use and length of these parties gradually expanded with the trips taking Aracelis and her friends further outside of Salem and her drug use starting to involve cocaine and ecstasy at the urging of her companions. Aracelis has always enjoyed these experiences and enjoys the freedom she feels when she is attending them, finding enjoyment in going through the experience with her friends. She has also attended rave festivals such as Electric Zoo in New York and Electric Forest in Michigan. While her parents have no issues with her attending parties and festivals she has kept her drug use hidden from them as she is unsure if they would approve and wants to avoid having to confront the topic. Typically after a party or festival trip she also spends the night at one of her friends' house while she sobers up to avoid getting caught.

Around school, Aracelis is known for being a member of the cheer team and being a chilled out, laid back, and caring person where her friends are concerned. She is currently in a relationship with Lúcio Oliveira, something she herself instigated by asking him out after initially developing feelings for him after being friends for a while. However, where people who aren’t her friends are concerned Aracelis is known for having an arrogant demeanor and not particularly caring that much about people if she isn’t already friends with them. Even among those who know her well, she is known to be arrogant in regards to her skill at cheer, in that she is good at it but isn’t afraid to say so which can and has rubbed people the wrong way.

In regards to her studies, Aracelis’ favorite subjects are art, specifically photography, and history, while she is also good at Spanish. While Aracelis doesn’t explicitly dislike them as subjects she does find both English literature and math boring to study. Aracelis is planning on attending a college with a good cheerleading program when she graduates so she can continue to pursue her dream of taking part in the Cheer National Championships. To this end, she has been working on trying to get a scholarship and has been putting together videos as well as attending interviews and tryouts.

Advantages: Aracelis is physically fit and strong thanks to her years of cheerleading and gymnastics which is something that could give her an advantage compared to others on the island. Being a member of the cheerleading team could also mean she has a preexisting set of allies to rely on. She is also used to exploring abandoned places so could be less likely to get spooked in this situation while being able to navigate the buildings in an easier and safer way through experience. Additionally, Aracelis is fluent in Spanish meaning she can communicate with other Spanish speakers without other people being able to listen in and understand.
Disadvantages: Aracelis has an arrogant side of her personality that could work against her in a couple of different ways, firstly it could lead to her overestimating her own abilities compared to the people she is working with or against, while it could also lead to her putting off potential allies or engender dislike towards herself through her attitude. Aracelis requires glasses or contact lenses to see and if she loses these her vision over long distances will be compromised.

Conclusion: There's a thin line between deserved pride and the kind of arrogance that gets you killed. We'll see if S083 earns her right to sit on such a high horse. - Christina Stockton
"Art enriches the community, Steve, no less than a pulsing fire hose, or a fireman beating down a blazing door. So what if we're drawing a nude man? So what if all we ever draw is a nude man, or the same nude man over and over in all sorts of provocative positions? Context, not content! Process, not subject! Don't be so gauche, Steve, it's beneath you."
