Snatched Edges

Letitia May oneshot (early Day 4)

Located on the shore of the frozen lake between the forest itself, the campground was a popular summer getaway spot for residents of the town, frequently featuring BBQs and games of softball among other activities. The campground now is home to a few abandoned tents, an outhouse, and a single lonely log cabin with a small jetty. The time left abandoned has seen the log cabin, outhouse and jetty become covered in moss.

Snatched Edges

"God, this is a fucking mess," Letitia muttered to herself.

Situated in one of the tents, Letitia was trying to comb through a tangle in her hair. After Darryl abandoned her, Letitia had taken to walking the island. She spent most of Day 2 and Day 3 trying to get an idea for the island. She had managed to circle the entire island in the process by hugging the coast. To her surprise, she hadn't seen anyone else in the time. Maybe she was just lucky, or maybe it was because everyone else was staying close to settlements. Whatever it was, Letitia was able to move through carefully and peacefully.

She had taken to getting a lay of the island in her walks, then settling in the sleeping quarters on Day 2 and the tent on Day 3. Neither was a great place to sleep, and all that walking in the outdoors had definitely done damage to her skin and her feet. But either way, Letitia was still alive, and she felt like she had figured out the basic layout of the island beyond what the map could indicate. She was cold, miserable, and more bitter than she was before she woke up here, but she was feeling good about her place.

As she continued to try and work on a knot, the announcement turned on.

"Oh, great, more names," she said.

She listened as the names were rattled off. She hadn't heard the name of anyone that really stood out to her. She figured Salem or Darryl could have shown up just to show how dumb they were for leaving her. Then she heard an interesting statement.

“Joan Leaven died sometime after being shot by Letitia May. When someone tells you to leave, don’t be Leaven.”

Letitia froze. So, the girl she had shot the other day was named Joan. And not only that, but she had bled out and died a day later. Letitia set the comb down.

"Wow. I'm a killer."

There was a lot to think about with that. That would change her life forever. Aside from the moral issues and the issues she'd have to take up with God and her family, Letitia knew it was going to color how people saw her. She knew there were survivors of this game who were able to go home and make a life for themselves, like that one girl who did stuff for a magazine. Granted, there was that one guy who was killed after winning, but he was a real bastard from what she gathered. How was she going to launch her business and become a fashion mogul with this in her resume?

The rest of the announcement played out, then Letitia broke the silence.

"Well, it's self defense," she said, looking at the injury on her arm. "Worse guys than me have killed and managed to live their best lives."

Letitia picked up the comb and finished detangling her weave. She began to wrap her hair up under her head wrap.

"Besides," she told herself, "now I don't have to kill. I can go home if I'm the last alive. Now all I need to be is the last one."

Once Letitia finished wrapping her hair up, she grabbed her rifle and bags and stepped out of the tent. It was a new day, and Letitia was an elevated person. She could return home if she survived, and now all she had to do was ensure that happened. Besides, if she was going to be here for some time, this was time for her to craft the sort of story that would allow people to welcome her with open arms, with Joan's death a minor blip in her story.

She was sure she could spin it.
