I'm a Derek and Dereks don't run!

Derek Caldwell Oneshot (Day 3) (setting up some Meanwhile-stuff)

Located on the second floor of The Quarters building, the sleeping quarters themselves were periodically updated throughout the operating life of the station. Initially simple rooms with a bed, desk, and end-table, the contents were improved upon over the years, though most personal touches have been removed. Each of the rooms comes off the main corridor that runs down the center of the floor and are roughly five square meters in size. The rooms all contain a single bed frame topped with a moldy mattress, a thin wooden desk with a basic plastic seated chair, and a full-length mirror hanging off the wall. The floor and the rooms themselves are all covered in a layer of dust and debris from the years of abandonment and there is a noticeable draft of cold air that flows through the floor whenever it is windy.

Time passed along with the pain.

While they didn't get sick of each other's face, the danger was there. For that reason, Derek and thegirl split up over the day, both chosing other rooms of the quarters to reside in.

The bed in Derek's room was dusty, but it was a bed. A bed he could just lie on while watching the ceiling and listening to the silence.

Back when he was younger, this was an activity he did often. Only with some screaming in the background.

Giving the current time, Abel might be doing the same right now at home. Shit. Even thinking of his brother wetted Derek's eyes. He just let it flow.

At least until he finally decided to face the camera in the room.

This was not something Derek wanted the girl to hear, so this might be his only chance. Sitting on the bed, he embedded his damaged hand in his left one, spending a few seconds to watch the cold construct of technology through which the terrorists where watching him back.

"Hey," he finally spoke. "That Danya guy said all of this will be released later, so I would like to have a talk with you. No, not the terrorists. I am talking about you. No clue whoever you are or why are watching this shitshow here, but if there is an ounce of goodness in you - or if you just want to make yourself feel better - it would be cool of you to listen to my story..."

His speech took about three minutes.

"... and that would be all." Somewhere during start and finish, Derek's hands had formed fists that were shaking.

"I trust you know what to do with this information. Choose wisely."

The rest of the day was pretty uneventful.
