Take One for the Team

One-Shot

The housing in the town is made up of simple two-story houses, most of these of built in the style of 70s and 80s American suburbs despite being far removed from such a setting. Many of the houses have similar layouts with some divergence: most feature a bottom floor consisting of a kitchen, dining room and living room, a second floor with a master and secondary bedroom, and a bathroom with a tub. A few of the houses have garages, but the vehicles they contained are either gone or have been rendered inoperable.

Take One for the Team

It feels like every day now Jenny had been walking around the entire island. It feels like this might be a daily occurrence until something else stops her. That something else, hopefully, not being death.

At least she was traveling with a trusted friend. Donovan was a trusted friend to her, after all. He hadn't tried to kill her, or threaten her, or do anything of that matter, so why not follow his lead for once. Being the captain of a team was tough enough, especially if your teammates were being uncooperative.

And besides, Donovan had his share of reasons for leaving. Two strangers, two strangers who were already partners, and who had weapons like them. They did catch them off-guard. Maybe Donovan also had a plan that Jenny just wasn't aware of.

When they got to their next stop, Jenny had been so glad that they found something with beds again that she didn't even mind Donovan getting first pick. For all she knew, she wouldn't have survived another day alone. Maybe that's what Jenny should do for now, until they get somewhere. Just be a good teammate. She could always ask Donovan what the plan was tomorrow. Surely he has a plan, right?

Jenny spent the rest of that night relaxing for the first time in what felt like forever. Yeah, sometimes a good team player needs to know when to tag out, and this time, she'll let him take the lead.
