Don't Text and Walk

One-Shot where Mortimer Schaub nearly fucking dies... (Parking Lot of School)

The playing fields are a collection of a football field, a soccer pitch, and a baseball diamond, that are used for more general sports practice. Each has a set of bleachers, but these are not as numerous or high-quality as the bleachers in the school's other athletic facilities. Much like them, the fields are free to use for any students outside of designated practice times or classes.

Ok, so perhaps Claude wasn't really there when he tried to talk to Principal Winegarden about the horror club incident, but it turns out that all of the drama over it was being toned down. Just a little fluke it seems now. Mortimer was texting the rest of the horror club members, when he left the school building, going into the parking lot among the cars of students and facility alike. Mortimer unfortunately wasn't able to get his bike within the racks at the front of the school, opting to go for a set of racks across the street from the school. The reason was due to him finding what looked like someone's dropped lunch by his bike. Something that he felt was intentional.
@CHILLER wrote:Also good news. Fray-Fray isn't fired. We're allowed to still use his classroom, but we gotta watch like PG movies or below. So it's going to be like a row of cartoons and shit, unless anyone has a pad to which we can watch Terrifier.
Mortimer kept his eyes glued to his phone screen, stopping at the crosswalk. One would think that his perception would be good at knowing when to take note, but even after pressing the button at the crosswalk to change the pedestrian light from a red hand to a white walk symbol. Mortimer thought about what he should have his fellow club members watch now. Maybe not Terrifier. It needed to be of good quality. A fine wine of a horror movie. Check in to see when Ray and Mercy are going to pop out from their non-FOMO Buddhist temples.

Mortimer went texting some more, but there was a rare issue that some might get when their phone touchscreens are smudged too often. One pixel of a touchscreen might hold itself down or erratically bring up a random app. This was the case for Mortimer's phone.

Mortimer saw how his phone started to spazz out. He had his fingers on his touchscreen to try to resolve the issue, but the error was still happening.

His eyes flashed away from the screen to see the white walk symbol on the other side of the crosswalk. Mortimer's eyes went back down and started to walk forward onto the crosswalk. What he didn't know was when he looked away, the white walk symbol changed back into a red hand.

"Come on, you stupid frickin'...." Mortimer grumbled, when he tried to fix the issue on his phone. He was still on Discord to which he managed to bring up the voice recording option for the group chat.

"My phone is spazzing out here! My touchscreen is fucked. Hang on, the fuck is...." Mortimer used his shirt to wipe at his screen. He stopped in the middle of the crosswalk, not aware of a random catering van from Jamba Juice heading towards him.

"Oh there we go. Now you work. There we go-"

Mortimer didn't realize it, until the van literally sped completely past him. It would've been nice for the driver to slow down for him or better yet, honk at Morty. Obviously, the driver wasn't trying to directly hit him, but even when he drove past him, the young man was inches away from hitting the side of the van. Mortimer let out a scream, hopping backwards from where the van sped past him, dropping his phone in the process. The phone case protecting it against the hard tarmac.

"Fuck me!" Mortimer said, sitting up from laying on his back. He looked around to make sure no other cars were coming. He picked up his phone to make sure that there were no cracks on his screen. He was lucky that things didn't go bad.

"I hate this joint..."

Mortimer got to the other end and go to where he parked his bike to head home.

Mortimer Schuab - The creator is converted into an avatar of all. Happy to tell you that life is completely meaningless and that everyone is going to die horribly.
Emma Drakenberg-West - Rebelling against the system with the power of metal and punk music gets you by, only for a little while, unless you decide to do the right thing only by getting your hands dirty.
Joanne Martinez - She enforces the authority of the school, but even a queen bee must lose the stinger. Now, she wants to make her point clear on who rules.
Vanessa Thibodeaux - Humans and animals are both the same. The lines officially blur for a butcher who will now become the executioner.
