Beautiful Day In the Neghborhood

Helena's House (Private)

On the southern edge of Las Vegas is Meadowbrook, a close-knit, middle class neighborhood. The area is charming and nearly all of the houses sport the Spanish tile roofs common to the area. Front yards often have gardens with native plants due the ease and affordability of keeping those plants alive in the heat. While the area may lack the glamor of other parts of the city, residents find it an affordable and relatively safe place to live.

Beautiful Day In the Neghborhood

It's a beautiful day in this neighborhood
A beautiful day for a neighbor
Would you be mine? Could you be mine?

((Abigail "Abby" Lester, continued from Devil Down In Georgia))

Abby hummed softly as she made her way to Helena's property, only a short walk from her own house. tucked under her arm was a makeup bag containing everything she'd need to help Helena out with her date. It was odd. She never thought she'd be able to do someone else's makeup like this. It feels very strange, almost alien to her. However, she also followed the "help thy neighbor" mantra well, and right now, she wanted to help.

She made her way to the front stoop of Helena's house, brushing her hair back as she continued her song.

Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?
Won’t you be my neighbor?

She knocked Lightly on the door and waited

The sound of footsteps can be heard rapidly approaching the door before stopping. A few seconds later the door opens a crack, red hair and green eyes poking through before Helena sighs in relief and opens the door fully.

((Helena Colt continued from Would You Hate Me?))

“Hey Abby. Thank you so much for this. Dad’s not home yet so just us. Uh…come on in.” Helena smoothed down her t-shirt, one depicting a manga panel from the Naruto manga, before leading Abigail inside. The house itself is nothing too special. Walls painted white with various pictures and paintings on them, large leather sofa sat in front of a wall mounted tv with what looks to be an urn underneath it. But Helena wasn’t keen to stay in the living room for long. She’s had enough time with that urn already this week. She doesn’t need that on top of the anxiety she’s already built up.

“My rooms upstairs. Um…do you want a drink or food or anything? I’ve never had anyone around so…I don’t know what’s polite.” Probably didn’t have to add that bit but can’t help overtaking. Tonight’s gonna be a disaster she just knows it.

Abby had a neutral expression as she is let into the house. She glances at Helena’s modest decor, nodding gently as she addressed her friend with a smile

“Oh no, I am okay. Thank you.” She held up her makeup bag “I have everything we need. Let’s head upstairs and get you ready for your date.”

That’s good. To be honest Helena hadn’t had anything to eat all day besides cereal this morning and seeing Abby eat would probably be a bad idea.

“Alright cool. Uh…yeah follow me.” Helena lead Abby up to her room, a white door with a “do not disturb: gaming is happening” sticker on it. Helena cringes at herself internally for forgetting that’s there. Maybe she should take that down before she goes. Later problems. Inside Helena’s room her walls were painted a slight shade of red with various anime posters on the walls, there where two bookcase like shelves that had various games for various different consoles stacked in them and she had a wooden desk on which a tv and three different consoles rested. Her gamer chair had been tucked into the desk and had three different hoodies draped over it. Helena’s bed was basically shoved onto the corner, right next to her closet which was currently opened and missing a few clothes.

Helena pulled her chair out from her desk and pulled it over to her bed, sitting herself down onto it with a thud. “Sorry if it’s kinda messy. I uh…I’ve been panicking a little.”

“Oh, no issue.” Abby said non-judgmentally, pulling up a chair to sit across from Helena “I understand. First dates jitters are always something. Though, uh, I wouldn’t have known. As I don’t go through them.”

She took a glance around Helena’s room, nodding a bit. How queer. A lot of things for one person to have in their room, does she really use all this stuff? Hm. Maybe she should get a poster.

“Well. Let’s get you dolled up before he gets here.” Abby opened up her bag up and tilted her head “Okay…let’s start with some foundation, a little bit of blush, eyeliner and let’s put some lipstick on you.”

She pulls out a makeup sponge, humming softly as she dabs some foundation onto the sponge and tilted Helena’s head up and starts going to work “The freckles really help you stand out. You’re gonna look like the belle of the ball.” She assured, smiling as she started applying

Helena let out a small nervous chuckle. Belle of the ball seems a little extreme. Both because Helena can’t imagine herself being pretty and also because she’s going to an Applebees. But belle of the Applebees doesn’t have a great ring to it she guesses. Nice to know her freckles help her stand out though. Another gift from her mother. But she’s not going down that thought train again.

Helena shifts a little uncomfortably. She’s not used to being touched so much or having stuff put on her face. Plus she still feels a little bad about lying to Abby. It’s just been so nice to have a friend and…she’s really scared to lose one so soon after getting them. Against her will Helena lets out a small sigh. It’s gonna be a hard secret to keep though. Especially if Rozlyn wants to go on more dates afterwards. Future problems. Deal with them later. Focus on now.

Abby hums as she applied the other types of makeup on Helena, pausing every so often to gauge the right look before following through. The slight blush on the cheeks, then holding her head up for the eyeliner and mascara and then a light color for the lipstick “Oookay. Let’s see,”

Abby hums softly, tilting her head as she gauges his Helena works. Suffice to say, Abby would like to pat herself on the back if she could reach out. Her days of cosplaying and body painting had really worked out in her favor. Mmm, next would be clothes. Should’ve started with that. No matter, Helena would just have to be careful.

Abby pulled out a mirror and smiled lightly as she held it up to Helena “Here you go. How is it?”

Helena looked herself over in the mirror, a little surprised. I mean she knew make-up could change a lot but she kinda looked a little pretty. Her self confidence isn’t anywhere near high enough to think she looks amazing or anything. Or even really good. But that’s not cause of Abby. Abby’s actually done a good job. Hopefully Rozlyn likes it. At least she’s still got her hair the same way. Apparently that’s one of her best features.

“Wow. I’m kinda pretty…thanks Abby. Really. I have no idea what I’d do without you.” Let’s just hope she won’t have to find out for a while.

“Bless your heart.” Abby places a hand on her chest, a grateful smile appearing on her lips while admiring a job well done “I simply do as intended from me.”

She sighed as she stood up, turning slightly towards her closet “Right, now, all we need is some nice clothes. You’re not going a five star restaurant thankfully, but perhaps a bit more…class.” She glanced at The Naruto shirt “No offense, of course. Do you have any idea what to wear?”

Helena looked down at her shirt. Is it really that bad? Sje thought it was kinda neat. More classy than her regular shirts anyway. God she has no idea what she’s doing. She’s gonna fuck this up so badly.

“I um…this is my best shirt…” Helena sighed “I don’t really have dresses or skirts or anything like that. I got a bunch of video game and anime shirts plus some hoodies. Um…I might have like a plain black shirt too. Is that…good?” Helena looked back at her closet nervously. She found one pair of jeans that fit her but other than that there’s nothing even remotely close to date attire. Are jeans even date attire? Better than shorts right? Should she have gone clothes shopping? Dad’s been too busy to take her though and no way she was going herself.

“Sorry I uh…I haven’t really been to an event that requires a dress code in a while.”

Abby narrows her eyes as she placed a hand on her chin, thinking “Hm…I see.”

She gives a soft hum as she tilts her head down, as if this was a modern day paradox while adjusting her gaze to the closest and then at Helena, moving her lips back and forth to think more.

“Well. It’s really no issue. I suppose the simply black shirt and jeans will work enough. It’s a first date anyway.” Abigail shrugged and pulled out the black shirt and placed it down and she gave a half chuckle “Probably best not to show too much skin off anyway for the boys.”

She scratched at her arm absentmindedly, lost in thought for a brief second before noticing what she was doing, promptly stopping and turning back “Here, I’ll let you get dressed. Just call out when you’re done so I can see how you look. And don’t smudge the makeup.”

She turned and stepped out of Helena’s room, waiting in the hallway.

Helena stared down at the shirt and jeans. The boys huh. Yeah…wouldn’t wanna show them skin hah. Abby’s gonna hate her. Still Helena got to work, trying to carefully take off her current clothes and slip on the new ones. She did almost immediately mess up the makeup taking off her t-shirt. Not catastrophically but she did see a smudge of it on the shirt as it came off, letting out a swear under her breath before throwing it on her bed. Luckily she didn’t get any on the black shirt. Not entirely useless. She’s also realised how tight jeans are. How do people wear these everyday? Or is she just too big for these now? Ugh doesn’t matter they’re on now.

Helena tucked her shirt into the jeans. Hopefully that makes her look a little bit more presentable. Hopefully. Rozlyn won’t mind right? I mean she liked how Helena looked at the library right? Don’t think about that. You’re gonna spiral. Just get your make-up fixed and…remember to breathe. “I’m done changing! I uh…I messed up the make-up a little bit. Sorry.”

Abby was in the hallway, absentmindedly rubbing her arm up and down through her baggy sweater, lost in her thoughts. Helena’s calling out snapped her out of her mind, looking at the door and walking in.

“Oh. You look good.” She notes the smudged makeup and nodded “No issue, I can just clean up a little.”

She pulled out a small wipe from her bag and took it to the smudge of the makeup, dabbing it off just enough and tilting her head. She took a bit of foundation and slightly rubbed it back, blending it together as she nodded “Perfect.”

She took a deep nod as she ruffled in her pockets “And, here is the last thing.” She pulls out a small black box and opened it, revealing a nice, jewel incrusted necklace as he held it up towards Helena. It was a white chain with green and gold on it and shined nicely “Here you go.”

Helena gingerly takes the necklace, rolling it around in her hands. It’s pretty. Really pretty. Maybe too pretty for her. Does Abby really wanna give her this? What if she breaks it? Or loses it? Or it gets stolen?

“It’s…pretty. Are you sure? I don’t wanna accidentally lose it or something and leave you without it. Not that I don’t appreciate it of course I just…worry I guess.” Helena lets out a sigh. She certainly does worry. Worry about a lot of things. Before she can spiral into thoughts again though her phone pings on her bed and Rozlyns name shows up on the screen with a little heart next to it. Helena quickly runs over and grabs her phone, reading her message before putting it back down on the bed face down. Not long now then.

Abby gave a light, amused chuckle at Helena’s nervousness, watching as she gets a text and places it down. She approaches and places a hand on Helen’s shoulder.

“Hey. Don’t worry too much, okay? I know you’re nervous but you’re gonna do great. Just be yourself, listen to the person, don’t be a slob and you’ll win his heart.” She giggles “And, if anything goes wrong, just send me a text and I’ll help you out, okay? But you’re gonna do great, Helena.”
