SOTF Writing Trends Mafia Sign-Up Thread
Greetings! It is now time for sign-ups for SOTF Writing Trends Mafia. What is Writing Trends Mafia? It's like board mafia, except instead of members, you will be assigned the roles of various writing fads that have come and gone over the years, some from the recent era, others from long in the past.
Please note, right now, that how annoying I find a particular trend will not correlate to whether it's town or not. Indeed, this will be a nice tricky semi-impossible setup as far as flavor spec goes, since role flavor will not necessarily correlate to alignment in any meaningful way and since there's no list of the roles in play anywhere anyways.
Also of note, I handle a few things differently from other games on SOTF, and ask that everyone read through the following and make sure they're able to commit before signing up for the game.
Inactivity is an extremely frustrating aspect of SOTF mafia play, frequently leading to games being deadlocked and phases decided less by arguments/deduction/clever play and more by which side has more active members/whether town has anyone able and willing to herd everyone into even completing a vote. This can make games very difficult to balance, as if one side or the other rolls a bunch of folks who are barely around, it can tilt the game insurmountably from the first phase.
As such, I enforce activity via spreadsheet. To be considered active, each phase every player must contribute at least three meaningful posts per phase. Failure to remain active will result in a single warning, followed by a modkill should activity not improve. A post counts as meaningful if it advances the discussion/in some way engages with the game. Your first vote of any phase automatically counts as meaningful unless you're blatantly throwing out a random vote to meet requirements; further votes will be judged on their merit (that is to say, if you're spamming random votes with no rhyme or reason, that does not count as engaging with the game, while if you're joining a wagon or pushing a case it does). Exceptions in enforcement may be made for any phase that ends notably early, at mod discretion (which is to say you won't be punished if someone gets fast-pushed two days into a phase before you're able to check in), but don't count on any leniency if you wait until the last twenty-four hours to open your mouth. You will not be held accountable for posting during any time in which you are marked as Away in the appropriate thread.
I am quite aware that this may lead to smaller games, games imploding from modkills, etc. That sucks! But... I also feel it sucks less than games insidiously imploding or flipping because half the game was checked out the whole time. I hope an incentive to change behavior (or give this one a pass if the rule isn't your style/sounds like too large a burden) will hopefully help the games run a bit nicer in the future in general.
With that out of the way, sign-ups are open. I tend to use a sliding setup that allows for however many people show up, so the minimum is two players (although at least four would be ideal!) and there is no maximum.
Sign-ups will run for a week, followed by a pause of a few days to get PMs adjusted, then the game.

Gonna give this one more day and cut it off. I put the wrong stuff in the countdown (oops) so it ends tomorrow at 8 PM Pacific.
Will likely take a few days after to do a couple balance tweaks based on number of players and get PMs sorted.
Countdown remaining...
