Break Her Like A Breadstick
It's still Sunday
(Rozlyn Dolor continued from Toreador, L'Amour T'Attend)
Currently Playing: Shinedown - KILL YOUR CONSCIENCE
Piloting the blue Elantra, Rozlyn drives down the neighborhood of Meadowbrook, looking out for Helena's house.
[While you're scratching at the gate, screamin' come on let me in,
Like a fully loaded zombie throwing caution to the wind,
Back for more of what you love, back for more of what you hate,
You can't stop stop stop, 'cause you're already too late]
She sings along as her eyes scan the neighborhood she'd grown accustomed to. There were a few red houses here and there, it wasn't the most descriptive hint, but "at the end" helped... a bit.
As she keeps going, her eyes catch something, movement, a person, a color, red hair. Is it her?
Yeah probably.
Rozlyn pulls the car up beside the sidewalk, her booming music muffled by the windows but very very audible to the outside world, she slows to a park and looks over at Helena, raising a hand to stiffly wave.
She rolls down the window, and with the smallest crack, the music is free, released into the open air, assailing the awaiting Helena with it's intensity.
[Kill your conscience! Cry yourself to sleep!
Kill your conscience! Better you than me!
You're all plugged in, ready and rehearsed!
Do your best, do your worst, show me where it hurts!]
Thankfully, Rozlyn turns the music down, reigning the sound back within the publically acceptable bounds, confined within the car.
"Hey!"
Let her exclamation not be mistaken for emotion, it's merely an indication of volume.
She was excited for this, but her nerves were still present, weighing down her optimism.
She wants this to go well.

Helena was stood outside her house, playing one of those match three games you can find seven billion of on the App Store. Usually not her kinda thing but being nervous and having nothing to do with your hands leads you to desperate places.
((Helena Colt continued from Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood))
Luckily she wouldn’t have to wait for long. She’s probably creeped out a few drivers with how hard she’d been staring at every car that drive past but this one is stopping. Must be her. And suddenly her hearts beating too hard again. Helena puts her phone in her pocket, jumping a little bit at the sudden loud music but still waving back.
“Hey!” Helena gave Rozlyn a small smile, speed walking out from her front garden to Rozlyns car. Helena’s not much of a car girl but honestly the fact that Rozlyn has a car at all is weirdly attractive to her. Or maybe that’s just her brain latching onto everything about Rozlyn. As she opened the door and sat down in the passengers seat Helena finally got a good look at Rozlyn and what she was wearing. This immediately set alarms off in her head. Firstly because wow she’s hot. Secondly she hasn’t dressed up at all. Did Helena overdress? Should she have just worn her regular clothes? Is Rozlyn gonna think she’s weird for having make-up and…well not fancy clothes but fancier clothes. Kinda. Oh god the spirals already happening. Bottle bottle bottle.
“Ah um…you look…good. Really good. Uh…” Helena stared at the dashboard in front of her, silently wondering if she could find a way to activate the airbag and launch herself into the garbage where she belongs.

Rozlyn turns her head to check out Helena's outfit.
"Yeah you're lookin' good too, makin' me feel underdressed."
She laughs slightly and wastes no time putting the card in drive and turning onto the road, slowly driving down towards the neighborhood exit.
She considers the idea that her statement might make Helena anxious, so she waves her right hand slightly.
"Just pulling your leg, don't think about it too much. You like, actually made yourself look nice, and I didn't even put a bra on. I'll... try to look nicer next time."
She exits the neighborhood and turns onto the city streets. The song concludes and there's a brief moment of respite before the next song comes on.
Now Playing: The Pretty Reckless - Make Me Wanna Die
She nods her head along to the heavy beat of the intro, left hand on the wheel, right hand on the shift. Her fingers tap on beat idly.
Drives are a place where she feels substantially more comfortable, but they're also very lonely. This is nice.
"It's uh, 10 minute drive-ish, if ya got anything you wanna talk about."

Helena mumbles out a thanks, tucking some of her hair behind her ear. Now that the cars moving Helena can focus on calming down again. For the fortieth time today. Luckily the rumble of the car helps. She always enjoyed long car rides as a kid. It’s not a long one this time but still…it’s nice to feel the familiar rumble and sounds. Plus this music is kinda cool. Lyrics are kinda fitting. Helena doesn’t really have much of a strong taste in music. Her favourite songs are usually found in video games or anime titles. She really should branch out a little. Her dad tried to get her into jazz for a while but she was not a jazzy girl as it turned out.
Helena’s thoughts are broken as Rozlyn spoke again, looking over at her for a moment before looking down at her lap, where she’d buried both her hands. “Huh? Oh uh…” conversation right. That’s a pretty important part of this whole thing. To say Helena was not good at coming up with conversation topics though would be an understatement. Her eyes scan around the car and outside the window, playing her own high stakes game of eye spy. Well not that high of stakes really. The entire night probably doesn’t rest on if she can come up with something to say right here right now. But it’s a pretty bad start. Then Helena’s mind finally kicks in and helps her for once. Music.
“Um…so what’s this song called? Sounds nice. I don’t uh…listen to a ton of music but…” Helena trailed off, having started the sentence without figuring out how to end it. Well at least she tried. That’s something right?

The song enters into the lyrics as Rozlyn's car joins into the post-church grocery trip traffic, she audibly groans as she's forced to slow down and become part of the crowd of cars.
[Take me, I'm alive. Never was a girl with a wicked mind,
But everything looks better... when the sun goes down.
I had everything. Opportunities for eternity,
And I could belong to the niiiight.]
She's cut off suddenly, forcing her to make a quick brake as she growls, hands up in exasperation as she watches the car turn into her lane unsignalled.
"What the fuck? God, why do people bother becomin' comedians, the best jokes have already been made and they're your FUCKING turn signals!"
She sighs then glances towards Helena, tapping her phone to wake the screen and point to it.
[Your eyes, your eyes...
I can see in your eyes, your eyes...
You make me wanna die]
She makes brief eye contact with Helena. Green's a nice color. She shrugs and puts her hands back in position as the car in front finishes its manuver and allows her to start moving again.
"Oh, uh, Make Me Wanna Die. By The Pretty Reckless. Been uh, longtime favorite of mine. Kinda... guess I kinda relate to it a bit? I mean I guess that's true for a lot of the music I listen to."
The mumbles of cars driving down the road supplement the hard rock soundtrack inside the vehicle.
[I'll never be good enough,
You make me wanna die,
And everything you love,
Will burn up in the liiight,
Every time I look in-side your eyesss...
You make me wanna die.]
A tinge of nigh imperceptible red on her face, she focuses on the roadside sins of those around her.
(I'm at least good enough to land this date. I'm doing fine, right?)

Helena jolted forward in her seat at the sudden break, only to pull back into it at the subsequent shouting which was loud enough to make her flinch. Helena’s never been good with sudden loud noises. She’s worse when it’s sudden angry people. It’s understandable to be angry though. She doesn’t drive but seemed like they nearly crashed there because of the guy in front of them. Still her body felt tense all over again. Coiled up like a spring about to explode. She just nodded at Rozlyn as she explain what the song was. Hopefully she’d remember it through the sudden anxiety spike. Helena then turned her head to look out the window, watching the other cars and lights go past.
Helena needed to calm down. If she’s this tense before they even get to the restaurant then she’s just gonna fuck everything up. One road rage incident is not going to ruin this. She’s not going to ruin this because of her stupid fucking brain and its stupid fucking problems. She can’t.
But because of her tension and immediate loss to her own thoughts, Helena doesn’t continue the conversation. Another failure in that column for her. She’d mark the talk board but there’s no space left on it now.

(Why'd she go quiet? Uh, fuck.)
They keep moving at a steady pace, Rozlyn occasionally glancing towards Helena, wanting to say something, anything, not sure what would be good to say here though.
The song powers on, continuing to fuel Roz's thoughts about the situation, and the cars drive on, continuing to fuel Roz's dislike of old people.
[Taste me,
(That's the plan.)
drink my soul,
Show me all the things I shouldn't know
When there's a blue moon on the riiiise]
She glances at the rearview mirror, glaring at the truck behind them, you'd think she could kill someone with those eyes.
"Yeah bet that big truck makes you feel good, but my ass is reserved for her, so if you could get the fuck off of it, I'd be VERY appreciative."
She turns at an intersection, sighing in relief as the truck in question does not follow behind. Her grip on the shift tightens for a moment, before she lets go and hesitantly pokes Helena in the upper thigh, not taking her eyes off the road.
"...You good?"

Helena flinched again at the sudden shouting. Probably would have been less sudden if she’d noticed the car right behind them but her mind was far too gone to notice much of anything really. The declaration did make her face heat up a little though. Can’t say it’s something she ever expected to hear shouted in regards to her. Yet the tension still remained coiled up inside her. Being brought back to the present like that didn’t help matters. But that’s not Rozlyns fault. It’s Helena’s. She should be in the present. In the moment. She’s on a date for gods sake. Why can’t she bust he normal for once?
Having immediately gotten lost in her thoughts again Helena was unprepared for her thigh to get poked, letting out a small yelp and jumping a little in her seat. “Huh? O-oh sorry no I…I’m good. Just…” Helena thought about telling her about the shouting. That it was spiking her anxiety. But she really didn’t wanna be rude and especially didn’t wanna make Rozlyn feel bad. No she can just deal with it. It’s fine. “Nothing. Got lost in thoughts. Didn’t mean to make you worried.” Yeah that’s right. She’s fine. No need to worry. Maybe she’ll start believing that too if she thinks it hard enough.

(Oh, shit, I should... calm down I think. Quiet rage, Roz, quiet rage.)
Rozlyn's not sure how comfortable Helena is with touch, or really, how comfortable she herself is with it, but she figures that a little bit... wouldn't hurt right? She lightly puts two fingers on Helena's thigh. Squish. Feels nice. Her eyebrows raise slightly with quiet surprise and some delight. The chorus of the song returns, the angry self-doubting lyrics don't seem to be getting into her head as much here. She clicks her tongue as she goes to speak.
"I'll... turn it down a notch. My bad."
Stuck behind another driver as they're coming up on an intersection, she tilts her head slightly as she reads the bumper sticker. It makes her snicker.
"'My blood is pure Red, White, and Blue, what color is yours?', IIIII don't think you wanna be advertising the fact somebody came in your bloodstream dude, should prooobably see a doctor about an infection. Or blood clots in your brain."
No raising her voice, no aggression, she's annoyed clearly, but she's trying to reign herself in.
(Talk to her.)
"...You think his gene pool is as pure as his blood supposedly is?"
(...I mean preferably not about inbreeding but fuck it.)

Helena let out another squeak as she was poked again, though a less surprised one. Usually she’s not sure great with being touched. Even just having Abby apply her makeup made her a little uncomfortable. Yet she…kinda didn’t mind Rozlyn touching her. Not as much anyway. She even let a small smile slip onto her face despite her still heightened anxiety when Rozlyn said she’d tone it down. Guess it wasn’t hard to tell what was bothering Helena. Or Rozlyns psychic and can read her mind. She’s more scared for Rozlyn in that situation.
Helena looked over at Rozlyn before looking forward s at the car she was making fun of. One of those weird old people things. She’s never quite understood the crippling desire to convince everyone you’re super patriotic but then again she wears anime shirts in public so maybe throwing stones wouldn’t be a great idea. Would be kinda fun though.
“…He is giving off the vibe of someone who likes their cousin a little too much. Maybe…he’s from Alabama and visiting his sister slash ex-wife.” Helena let out a little giggle, letting the coil come loose a little. It’s not usually the kinda thing she finds funny but maybe Rozlyn is already rubbing off on her.

Rozlyn cracks up a little, it's not a loud laugh, more of a extended chuckle maybe. There's a particular glee in hearing a girl like Helena make Rozlyn's brand of jokes, making fun of other people and the fucked up world they live in. She pats Helena's thigh approvingly and nods her head.
"Yeah, fuckin' probably. Lucky girl I'm sure."
Her voice dripping with sarcasm as naturally as saliva. She's able to pass the supposed patriot at an upcoming turn, glancing towards the car for a second.
"Shit I mean that might be his sister in the passenger seat. Wild."
She whistles along to the music, her right hand fingers tapping on Helena's thigh in rhythm, idle yet delightfully active.
[I would die for you my love, my love... will burn up in the liiiight
Every time I look inside your eyes (I'm burning in the light!)
Look inside your eyyyes (I'm burning in the light!)
Look inside your eyyyyyyyyes...
Her voice is low and contained, like she's trying not to draw attention to herself, as she sings along to the last line, staring straight ahead.
"You make me wanna die."
The words aren't to be taken as they are on their own. In context, the mantra is a message of insecurity, feeling like the object of your affection is too good for you, and the anguish this spawns. Despite its hostility, it's a love song. Music is a funny thing.

Helena found the smile on her face growing wider when Rozlyn laughed at her joke. Even just that small chuckle seemed to drain so much of her anxiety out of her. It’ll come back. She’s sure of that. But right now…she doesn’t feel it. She’s just…having a good time. With another person. When did she get so lucky?
Helena found herself staring at Rozlyn, watching her sing along to the music while she tapped away at Helena’s thigh. Something about the sight is oddly intoxicating, even if it’s clear Rozlyns trying to hold back a bit. But there’s this…strange thing about it. Something Helena can’t quite put her finger on. Maybe it’s the clear passion and fun Rozlyn seems to be having. Maybe it’s the song with lyrics she hasn’t fully processed but probably will when you ends up listening to it a hundred times later. Maybe Rozlyns just really attractive. Maybe it’s all of that combined. Whatever it was, Helena was swimming in it.
How the rest of the evening will go Helena’s not sure. But this…it’s already made it worth it for her. A moment without her head screaming at her. Without her thoughts spiralling out. Just her and someone who’s probably way too good for her making fun of weird patriots and listening to music. If only she could have last forever. But she can’t.
Once the song stops Helena pulls her eyes away from Rozlyn, turning back to the outside world as she feels that little ball of self doubt start to grow again. The voice telling her she doesn’t deserve this. Doesn’t belong here. But she’s already shut it up once tonight. She’ll do it again. Hopefully.
Really was a good song.

The next song comes on, and Rozlyn's attitude brightens up a little
"Ooh, I added this recently."
Now Playing: Hole - Celebrity Skin
As the Applebee's comes into view a couple streets down, Rozlyn sings along with the song this time, quietly but audibly. The time in the car has slowly settled her nerves and she seems a bit looser overall now. She's not quite smiling but she's clearly enjoying herself. Her right hand shifts from slightly touching Helena's thigh to wrapping around Helena's hand, tapping her fingers against Helena's palm in time with the beat.
"Oh, make me over I'm all I wanna be, a walking study in demonology!"
She tilts her head slightly in Helena's direction, keeping herself faced forwards and eyes focused on the road. Girl pretty but road scary, and if not paying enough attention, there is a high chance girl stops being altogether. Oh that's a scary thought haha, keep singing.
"Hey, so glad you could make it.
Yeah, now you really made it.
Hey, so glad you could make it!"
With the next line, "Oh, look at my face", Roz takes the hand-hold she established and uses it to pull Helena's face to be looking towards her, she keeps singing along, steering one-handed as she slows down to enter the parking lot. Her singing takes a slightly exasperated tone at seeing all the cars parked, Sunday's a good shopping day after all.

Helena let out a small surprised yelp at her hand being taken, looking down at the joined hands while feeling her heart rate start sky rocket again. Not because of anxiety this time though. No that was being very firmly squashed back down by that weird feelings gut punch she felt before in the library, only far more intense now. Jeez if this is what holding hands can do Helena dreads to think what other stuff will do to her. Even thinking about it she’s slightly worried she’ll pass out. God is her hand sweaty? She feels sweaty. Is Rozlyn gonna notice? Okay maybe part of the heart rate increase is anxiety. Seems like it’s got a hand in everything she feels somehow. Heh. A hand.
Helena giggles to herself, both from her great hand pun she just made in her head and from the weird mix of giddiness and fear she’s had bubbling up needing a way to escape. That giggle would turn into a second yelp however as she felt herself being pulled by Rozlyn, her eyes immediately locking onto her. Oh like the song! That’s cute. Or maybe Rozlyns just cute. Especially when she looks happier. Should she call her cute? No Rozlyn probably doesn’t wanna be called cute. But maybe Helena’s judging a book by its cover too much. Rozlyn had more depth than that. She should just-oh wait we’re here.
Helena turned her head to look out at the parking lot. That drive went by fast huh? Or it felt like it did for her anyway. Time flies. But there sure are a lot of cars here. Was Sunday a bad day? Maybe she should have said something and changed it. Too late now though.

No I don’t know what I’m doing either.

Rozlyn looks for a spot close to the Applebees to park, scanning the lot as she slowly drives through, singing along still while one hand is occupied with Helena's hand. She finds a good spot and is about to turn in to it, when she stops and sighs. There's a motorcycle in the space, of course. She keeps looking and eventually finds an actually empty space, it's... a bit away from the Applebees, but that's fine, just some extra walking. She pulls in and puppets Helena's hand to put the car into park. She doesn't move to get out though.
"She obliterated everything she kidds,
Now she's fading somewhere in Hollywood.
I'm glad I came here with your pound of flesh.
You want a part of me
Well, I'm not selling cheap
No, I'm not selling cheap."
As the song ends she nods and pauses the music, disconnecting her phone and turning off the car. She checks the time quickly before pocketing her phone.
"Ride's never done till the song's over. I don't really like stoppin' and startin' midway through. Anyways uh, we're here."
She looks at Helena fully for the first time since they starting driving and reluctantly breaks the hand hold as she takes off her seatbelt and opens the car door. Finally at their date destination. Everything's okay. Nice.
(Here we go.)
