The Real Skyline Heights
((Ping))
Ooooh, now this was interesting.
It wasn't every day that Marcy found herself browsing her notifications, only to find a message from Stella freakin' Nyquist of all people.
The two were... Well, not exaaaaactly on good terms. Not to the same extent as Ivy or Joanne, but things had been a little cold between them ever since she started hanging out with Finn and Beelie-Bubbles. Hell, if Stella knew what she currently was up to, Marcy had zero doubt that she'd be on the receiving end of a withering glare by now.
She stopped chewing for a moment to start blowing a large pink bubble. Letting it balloon slowly, almost to the point where it looked like it was about to pop... Only to let it deflate and draw it back again, reaching up to wipe a pink strand from her eyes as the wind rushed through her hair.
Still, whilst Marcy wasn't a fervent devotee of the Cult of Stella - coughcoughClarissacoughcough - she couldn't deny that she kinda looked up to her fellow cheerleader. She was effortlessly cool in a way that had to be respected, a kind of understated magnetism that most wannabe Queen Bees could only dream of possessing. As such, she was pleasantly surprised to see that it was an invitation of all things: A super-secret rave, hosted by none other than THE Mona Marroquín.
How very - VERY - interesting.
She bit her lip as she sat there, legs dangling and swaying lightly in the wind.
Mona Marroquín. Quite the character, or so she's heard. Not someone who registered highly on her radar, with what little she's heard painting an unflattering picture - Something about boyfriend drama and general toxicity? Bit of a drama magnet, basically. Marcy could only imagine what a rave hosted by Mona would be like...
So naturally, she accepted the invite in a heartbeat.
A mischievous giggle escaped her lips as she hit send, before staring ahead at the Las Vegas skyline. It was a beautiful view, no doubt about it. Certainly beat going to some lame-ass study group, or whatever it was Sylvie was up to today. Doubted her cheer friends had the moxie it took to achieve a view like this...
Her eyes drifted downwards, staring past her feet at the ground below. Far, far below - About several stories or so, roundabouts?
Good thing they opted against braving a Casino for this, instead going for a less conspicuous building that (probably) wasn't crawling with mafia-funded security goons. Still, she had her hood up just in case, having opted for a generic pastel pink hoodie - one so faded, it almost looked white.
"Heh... You'll never guess what I've just been invited to" she snickers aloud, feet dangling away as she sat perched on a roof's edge.

((Finn Cooper continued from Isn't Everyone? ))
Heights carried both the high of doing something dangerous, and the calm lows of sitting still and just staring at something pretty. Finn loved heights, and city heights were some of his favourites.
Finn dangled his legs over the edge and gazed downwards, eyes following one moving light or person for a while, then shifting to the next. Tiny, tiny dots.
“Hmmm…”
He hummed outloud in thought, as he held out a small plastic bag towards Marcy of hard, white candies in twisted but often misshapen forms. The taste of them was mostly sugar, but with this hint of caramelized bitterness.
He’d tried making candy for fun, since he’d had the house to himself when the old man had been on a longer shift. Any chance to use a kitchen alone had to be taken advantage of. The result had been far too much candy, and a few hand blisters from trying to pull the candy while it was still too hot.
“Area 51?”

“Area 51?”
"Close! Well... Okay, not THAT close, but like... Similar-ish vibes, maybe?"
Marcy caved into her sugar fiend instincts the moment that bag was offered, reaching out to snag a candy and pop it into her mouth without a second thought. "HMMmm... Hmm?" she began, making a slight face when the bitterness hit her. "HMMmmmmm... MMmmmm" she concluded, shrugging and nodding with approval as she enjoyed her treat. The bitterness was a little odd, but it was made by Finn and thus perfect by default.
All the while, she found herself briefly distracted by a bright fluorescent orb in the distance - the infamous Vegas Sphere, currently resembling a giant eyeball that gazed at them ominously. Marcy couldn't help but gaze right back, as if challenged to a staring contest.
"Mmmm... But yus, Iiiiii just got invited to one of Mona's super secret rave parties!" she declared with a wide grin, before scrunching her face as a thought struck her. "Oh, uh, non dire a nessuno..." she quickly added, lightly tapping her nose with a wink.

“Mona...”
He stuck a candy in his mouth to give himself more time as he tried to recall. Initially he blanked on the name and thought it might be a rave musician he wasn’t familiar with, but then it clicked. There had been a big public thing at school a couple of years ago, something about her being way too intense over a guy.
“Oh yeah,” he said once he’d swallowed the candy. “She was a… stalker or something?”
Finn stared at the eyeball in the distance as well, before wrinkling his nose at it. He put the bag of candy between him and Marcy before flopping backwards, still dangling his legs over the edge. Even if he closed his eyes, he could still feel the lack of anything beneath them.
Once he had tuckled a hand underneath his head, Finn used the other hand to motion over his mouth like he was zipping it. “Scout’s honor. You gonna go?”

"Mm-hmm" nodded Marcy, casually snagging another candy before similarly flopping back. Well, less flopping so much as carefully lowering herself down to avoid cracking her skull on concrete, but she did so as floppily as possible.
"Dunno what to expect... Like, isn't she part of the weeb crowd or somethin'?" she asks, grimacing slightly as she leant back against her forearm.
"Eeh, either way it oughta be a laugh" she continued with a shrug, flicking the candy up into the air before catching it on her tongue. "MMm... Nice spot, by the way. Old stompin' grounds, or...?"

“Dunno.”
Finn wasn’t sure what would turn a rave into a weeb rave. Screens of anime flashing among the lights? Loud opening themes?
“Got a few high up places. I like this one. Makes Vegas seem… big, but small? Escapable? Dunno.” Finn’s mouth twitched up a little as he added, “And they probably won’t call the cops if we leave quiet.”
No use involving some guys who might either take a kid away quietly, or crack them over the head. Might get some crazier folks on private property, but anyone doing a job would want to dodge the drama.
Finn watched Marcy’s candy toss, and attempted to do the same, but he just threw the candy off the building. He sat up to see if he could tell where it had gone, but there was no saying at this height.
“Oops.”

Marcy snickered, staring up at the sky to do a bit of cloud gazing as she rolled the candy around in her mouth.
She knew what he meant - from up here, it really hit you just how condensed Vegas was. You had the glitz and glamour of the strip all congregated in one spot, whilst the rest of the city was... Well, maybe not boring exactly - every alleyway had its dirty little secrets - but mundane. Normal. There were places where you'd be forgiven for forgetting you were in Sin City.
"Harder than it looks, huh?" she teased, sitting up again to peer across the edge, legs dangling away as she rustled through the bag for another candy.
Damm. That was one helluva drop.
"You think, like... You'd crack someone's skull open if you dropped a candy on their head from this height?" she asked, fumbling the sugary sweet in her hands.

“Throwing’s hard,” Finn admitted.
Marcy dropped a completely normal question to go with Finn’s lost piece of candy.
Finn climbed to his feet, the tips of his toes still poking over the edge, before he turned his feet and walked along the edge of the building a few paces while he mulled the question. The first few times he’d done this in the past, it had made him dizzy and he’d quickly backed down. Not so nowadays. It did still make his head spin, but in a manageable way.
“Probably not. Pennies don’t do that, and they’re metal.”
He turned, toes skimming the air once again, and walked back towards Marcy.
“Be an embarrassing way to get a manslaughter charge.”

"HMm, figures..." replied Marcy, nonchalantly plopping the candy into her mouth.
With a slight tilt of her head, she idly observed her boyfriend as he paced back and forth along the ledge, teetering just a little too close for comfort. Of all the men in her life, she couldn't think of anyone else who would've put themselves at risk like that. Who were willing to put their life on the line not for attention, or money, or supposed heroics... But just because they kinda felt like doing it.
She had to admit, it left her feeling flutterier than the vertigo.
Nibbling her bottom lip, she pulled herself up onto her feet to start pacing as well - couldn't let her Finn have all the fun, now could she? Walking slowly along the narrow ledge one step at a time, her feet as close to the edge as she could get away with.
She made it look easy - and for a girl like Marcy, it kinda was. Ominous drop aside, it really wasn't all that different to the many times she'd balanced on precarious ledges in the past. Just keep your centre of gravity steady and don't fall over, stupid. So simple even a child could do it... Quite literally, thinking back to her days doing elementary level gymnastics. Compared to balancing on her cheer squadmates' shoulders, shit like this was amateur hour.
Granted, the slight breeze she felt against her face was a little disconcerting. Not something to do on a windy day, then.
"You knooow..." she began, stopping as she found herself reaching a corner, spinning on the spot to face her Finn with a coy smirk. "...I'm takin' a real big risk, coming up here with ya. Leaving my life in the hands of a rapscallion like yourself~"

Marcy joined him in pacing, which was to be expected. Him standing on the edge might as well have been a dare. Finn knew that, and usually he enjoyed that Marcy would rise up to meet him when he was doing something fun yet stupid. He also knew that she had balance, far more than he did. Finn wasn’t unbalanced, but he also wasn’t a dancer.
Watching her follow his moves was making him equal amounts dizzy and nervous in a way that being on the ledge alone didn’t make him, even when he was new to it. A thrill, in a way, but also… scary in a way that he didn’t fully enjoy.
He thought about that candy, and how the brittle sugar likely shattered when hitting the concrete.
Finn walked along the roof towards her as she teased him. He looked downwards for a moment, a brief smile flickering across his face at ‘rapscallion.’
“Yep. Yep, uh…”
He fumbled for a moment before going quiet. He didn’t know how to bounce back the banter.
He hopped down off the ledge, and offered his hand for her to take.
“I’ll take good care of it, uh…” Still fumbling for the opposite of a rapscallion. “My, uh… lady?” He scrunched his face up before the words were even fully out of his mouth, regret scrawled clearly across his expression.

Marcy blinked, her brow rising.
"Did... Did you just...?" she snickered, stifling a laugh with an amused grin.
Truth be told, she'd been angling for Finn to lean into the danger angle a little. Play up his bad boy image, emphasise just how risky it was to get close to a guy like him. As such his response took her by surprise.. Not in a bad way, mind you. She liked the way his face looked when it scrunched up in embarrassment. It was cute.
She reached out to take his hand, holding it firmly... But not stepping down just yet, a mischievous glint in her eyes as she smiled back.
"Hold on tight~" she whispered, flashing her boyfriend a wink before letting herself lean back.
Not suddenly - didn't want to catch him completely off-guard - but slowly entering a tug of war between her boyfriend and gravity, until his grip was the only thing preventing her from tumbling off that ledge.

“There’s… no apostrophe in there,” Finn muttered.
She took his hand, and everything felt right despite the embarrassment that still curdled in his gut. Even more so when she winked and whispered in that way that couldn’t help but make Finn feel tingly.
Then she leaned back--
His hand gripped tight.
--further--
His grip felt sweaty. Slippery. It hadn’t a moment ago.
--and further--
His other hand snapped out to grab her wrist.
--until all it would have taken for Marcy to fall was for Finn’s grip to fail.
Only Marcy would ever trust Finn this much, and against the city lights as she smiled like her life wasn’t quite literally in Finn’s hands… It was breathtaking and terrifying, like a tidal wave about to sweep him away. There was a second where the beauty of it was what won out, and Finn stared back, pink in the face. And then the terror crashed into him.
He yanked her towards him, sharp enough to hurt.

In that moment - Marcy leaning over the edge, her life literally in her boyfriend's hands - she felt a rush unlike anything she'd ever experienced.
There wasn't a single substance known to man that could match this feeling. More euphoric than heroin, more intense than cocain, more terrifying than the wildest of acid trips.
Up here, she felt free. No mothers screaming in her ear, no judgemental teammates, no societal pressures to behave a certain way or authority figures to kneel before. Just Marcy and her beloved, giving the world the finger as they lived life by their own rules.
Caught up in the moment, she lifted a single foot - albeit, only for the briefest of seconds before Finn yanked her back into reality.
Stumbling forward into her boyfriend's arms, she clung on tightly and looked up at him, heart still racing as she gazed deep into his emerald orbs.
The kiss that followed was all but inevitable.

She was back in his arms. Where he could hold her properly. Where it wasn’t one sweaty hand that was keeping his whole world from falling off the edge.
Returning the kiss was just as inevitable as it being initiated. Confirmation that she was still here. Clingy and messy and a little rougher than he’d normally be, but the high and the panic and everything was still there. She could probably feel his heartbeat going THUMPTHUMPTHUMP away.
When he’d first gotten to know Marcy, she’d been all sullen and moody and not up for doing much – it hadn’t been that long after her accident – and he thought she’d needed to let loose, and just.. get crazy with it. Hadn’t taken long for her to speed past him like a veteran driver in a car race.
He loved that about her, but sometimes it was shit-your-pants scary.
Finn broke the kiss first, though he didn’t let go of her and bumped his forehead against her own, making sure she was still there, still present, not falling--
“Don’t… you shouldn’t…”
Couldn’t make words. Harder than usual.
It really shouldn’t have mattered. It wasn’t like they were any stranger to danger. Not even the first time – fights and reckless driving and drinking and who knows what else. But it did matter when it was just one hand holding her off the abyss, and… she might have been the first person to trust him, and that…
It made him tingle. It made him wonder how she could trust him to hold on and keep her alive. Someone who hadn’t even been able to be born without killing his mother on his way out.
But she had trusted him. He had held on.
His heartbeat was starting to slow. The shakes were leaving his arms. This time his voice was a little calmer.
“...you shouldn’t trust a rapscallion to do that.”

Marcy grinned, dark eyes gazing deeply into those vivid green orbs as her arms coiled around Finn's shoulders.
"Mmm, I dunnooo... It's worked out pretty well in my favour so far~" she teased, with a playful wink.
A chill ran down her spine as she stood there, embraced atop that rooftop with her beloved. Was this a moment so intensely intimate that it caused her very bones to shudder? Or perhaps it was the sudden gust of wind that caused them both to stumble ever so slightly, threatening to tear her away from her boyfriend's arms into the cold embrace of reality? Who could say.
In any case, all the butterflies in her stomach were drowned out by her growing hunger pangs.
"We probably oughta get off this roof before someone spots us, heh..."
