The Amazing Race: SOTF Edition (Interest Check)
The Amazing Race: SOTF Edition (Interest Check)
So if you've been a member of the SOTF Discord on either Main or Mini, one of the things that you've probably seen is people hosting their own simulation of Survivor, sometimes even Big Brother, using SOTF characters. Everyone's been enjoying those, so my next thought was "why doesn't Brantsteele have one for The Amazing Race?". My next thought was "make one yourself" but coding is hard and I'm dumb and I'd probably get hit with a cease and desist.
*Another* thought was that one of the drawbacks of the Survivor(/Big Brother) simulations in the discord is that they're over and done with in a few hours, so those who are asleep or in unfavorable timezones when they're ongoing are kinda left out - hell, some of you reading this post might not even know we ever held them since they're over so quickly (they're usually in the respective servers' #voice channels for the record). So I figured I'd go in the complete opposite direction and not only make a game that had audience participation, but also goes much longer than a few hours.
Premise:
So for those of you unfamiliar, The Amazing Race is a reality show that's been running since 2001 - numerous teams of two compete against each other in a race around the world, complete tasks and challenges along the way, most of them are periodically eliminated, and the first team to reach the finish line first wins. The premise of this forum game is we simulate our own with me as host, with teams of two from various versions of SOTF.
How To Play:
This wouldn't really be a strategy game, more along the lines of a slightly involved popularity contest:
* Submit a team of two SOTF characters.
* Vote on task and travel stuff every few days until the game ends and a team wins.
Voting is much less involved than Song Contest, as you don't need to listen to an hour of music to vote - just vote for teams you want to do stuff. It's also much much less strategically involved than Mafia, since there's an element of luck always involved and it's all for fun anyways since it's fictional characters partaking and not handlers vying for a win.
Also, unlike both of those games, participation can be optional! You can submit a team you want and then never vote again if you so feel like it, or you can pop in and out voting whenever you want, or stop voting at all when a team you like is eliminated, or even vote every single round even if you never submitted a team!

If this gets enough interest, I'll begin a full-on game thread with some elaboration on the rules, but if you're interested, post below!

This is cool I'd be down. Would we only submit our own character, or is it free-for-all, or what?

No promises but sounds fun!
I bid you all dark greetings!

Right now I'm thinking:
- if a character is yours, go ahead and submit
- if a character belongs to a currently active member, ask their permission
- if a character belongs to a long since departed member, only submit in good faith - no "Alexia & Bubba" submissions and such

This sounds fun.
