I think it's important to address any such grand philosophical question in the context of its time. Specifically, in this case, Diego has recently undergone a near-death experience. How does this interact with the baser urges of the flesh? That's hard to say for sure. On the one hand, as best we've seen, Diego is not a masochist, and thus less like than some to appreciate impromptu dentistry.
