Naft's SOTF Challenge Thread
Come if you need some juice for an upcoming character.
My rosters for Main are fully booked for the next couple of decades. My Mini rosters, on the other hand, are currently much more barren. Hit me up!

I want to say I've evolved as a writer since those days but you and I know I probably regressed since then so any narrative prodding from you would be welcome :0I've been in chat reading random V6 threads

They have a character for their LARP. The opposite of them, if they're honest. The better side of them, if they're brutally honest. They'd never admit it, but they think about what their character would do in the weirdest scenarios, usually after they forgot to nail that final zinger. They'd never admit it, but they sometimes wish that their LARP character was here, instead of them.
A kid with narcolepsy who uses italics in dialogue.
A kid with good roots, a happy relationship, a loved one, a good circle of friends. Teach us what happens when you're happy and healthy, and tragedy is when all those good things come to a head, come to an end. Love is true and deep, and it hurts the most when it becomes superficial.
Woodcarving always soothed them. It took their mind off the fact that they were born... ugly. Born sickly. Medical experts are amazed, still perpetually stunned, that they're still here to shape wood and wash sawdust out of their hair.
A life dedicated to an activity with an intense ferocity, and rewarded by being one of the best at it. So what, that it's a small community? So what, that it's mostly online? It's their activity, and they are universally considered the best in the world.
When the bus arrived at her stop, they count backwards from thirty, waiting to see who would come and pick them up. If it was their dad, they'd get serene discussions on school and feel the love from him. If it was her mom, they'd get ice, coldness, judgment. How do they bridge this gap? What do they see when they do?
It's harmless drawings, really - sketches of people they find interesting, or attractive, but not - not that way. So what if sometimes they sketch the people naked? They need to practice all sorts of different body shapes, to get better. It's honesty, and they really could use some honesty right now.
They know they're not the best - or, they know people don't feel they are. That's fine by them. Accidents happen in the sunlight, after all - that's why the shadows are so... cozy.
They despise it, those that don't stand up for themselves. Why does everyone need to be so fucking conciliatory all the fucking time? If you're right, own it. If you're wrong, step the fuck down. Why are people such morons about it, anyway?
It's often said that public speaking is the number one fear in the world. What's the big deal? Stand tall, back straight, project, emphasize. It may be the number one fear in the world, but it sure is a rush to get on stage in a play or movie or at a rally and speak your mind. They like it. They're good at it.
Mom and Dad cross their hearts before leaving the house. Mom and Dad don't know about the clear nail polish, carefully applied to a thumb, or the makeup expertly washed away. Mom and Dad don't know about the practice they put in, the drag shows they watch on YouTube, the texts to friends about where to buy a wig.
Listen. It takes a lot to build an empire, even if it's all fake. The players aren't real, and the trophy is a special role in a discord server that nobody save for 80 people will see. But there's a ruthlessness one has to have, to win fantasy sports five seasons running. They'll trade their grandmother to keep it going for a sixth season straight.
Their parents should have been divorced ten years ago. When they were younger and couldn't understand, it was normal; everyone's parents fought a lot, right? But then you're a teenager, and you're doing great in school. You're becoming an adult, and they don't seem to care.
Gardening's cool. Because it's meticulous, quiet, and you build something beautiful. Gardening's cool, because you build something with other things - grow life, watch it bloom, care very carefully in very specific ways. Gardening's cool because sometimes, you pick a flower just to watch it wilt.
They're not saying that they'd like to compete in SOTF, okay? They're not saying that. It's just that - look, the human condition is one that's relatively unexplored, and they've done a lot of reading online about how SOTF actually - listen, we need things as a society to demonstrate - where are you going!?
Alright, so their life hadn't gone great up until this point, but at least they weren't you. You probably still get dressed by your mom in the morning. You are ten pounds of pathetic, and it must've - shit, sorry. Their therapist tells them that lashing out isn't the proper response. They're - they're trying to work on promising to work on that.
You know, all those self-help books got it wrong. Really, furiously wrong. All you need to do to become a better person is lie. Lie to everyone and everything about anyone and anything. Lie about small shit. Lie about big shit. Truth is a construct. Lies will set you free. They're more insteresting when they lie, anyways.
No, see - that's the problem. They work too hard. They have to. They'll never make starter with the gifts they're given, they'll never get an A with their brain, they'll never make friends naturally. But nobody - and they do mean nobody - can say that they don't work for it. They have to work for everything.Catche Jagger wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2020 1:12 pm I will also take a NAFT challenge, adding to this endless queue
See, nobody tells you when you start that you're picking your toenails out with a broken pair of scissors before recital because you forgot to bring your tweezers. They just think of the costumes and the dancing. Oh - sorry, are they talking about it again? It's just that dancing is expensive, too, and they loved it. Sometimes it felt like the only thing they had. Too bad about the expense.
They're not really great at anything, but they know that they're good at stuff. They can hold a good conversation, and they make a good first impression. The key when it all boils down is confidence and privacy. They like what they like - why do you need to know?BlizzardeyeWonder wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2020 1:17 pm I'll get on this gravy train after it gets too crowded
They didn't really pick their sport, but see, their single parent really loved it. They could've been good - great, too - except the parent never really got their shot. Well, to hear 'em tell it. Now they're pushed to follow in footsteps, and achieve what their parent never could - despite lacking the talent to do so.
Fifteen candles were lit on that special day for them. Their older and younger siblings erupted in furious singing. There was a mad dash for cake and kids from school were there. For the second year in a row, they blew out all fifteen. Maybe next year, the fam will remember to add two.Emprexx Plush wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2020 4:10 pm i did so great with this last time, what could go wrong?
(Hey, Goose!)
Taking shit is fun, right? They need to pick their spots, of course - there's a point where it's optimal to snake out and snag that pack of bubblegum when the guard isn't looking. They don't even need this stuff, but it's the sport of it. Doubly fun, though, when they go to put it back. That's where the true experts are.
They are amazed at how smart other people are. They think that smart people are neat, and good. They wish they could be as smart as other people are - they barely stay floating in class. They're good at some things - practice makes perfect, and they're good with their hands - but they'll probably join the workforce, and that's okay.
Look, here it is. They don't care what the source of the laughter is - the point is to make people laugh. If they're laughing at you, fine. If they're laughing with you, even better. A room's too quiet unless they're the center of attention, and boy, this world has a lot of quiet rooms.
